Travellers' Choice
Maalifushi by COMO is the first luxury resort in the Maldives to open in the pristine Thaa Atoll in the archipelago’s southwest. With overwater villas and garden suites, Maalifushi is therefore the ultimate away-from-it-all destination for families, couples, surfers and divers. There are some excellent breaks nearby as well as a string of uninhabited private islands, where whale shark sightings are common.

It was our second time at Como Maalifushi and it gets better every time we visit. We booked a Watervilla for our honeymoon and it was perfect. Amazing villa with breathtaking views, súper confortable bed and of course all Excellent staff: special thank you to RIMI, SUMITH, EDI, JOY & Mr. Soba and all the rest of the staff. Thanks to all of them we were able to enjoy an amazing 7 nights and can’t wait to go back.

The hotel staff were excellent. Our butler Zayan was very helpful and he really made our stay amazing. We would highly recommend the castaway picnic (it was a trip highlight) and the cinema under the stars. The rooms are amazing, super-sized, with their own plunge pool and direct access to the Garden reef. The little bikes they give you to get around on were so much fun. The House reef was abundant with sea life. The food was lovely and there was a lot of choice (two restaurants and in room dining options). All the staff were attentive and we met the manager on several occasions. A very well run hotel which I would not hesitate to recommend. The thing about the resort is that you can do as much or as little as you want. Our room was so lovely that we spent quite a few days just relaxing there and snorkelling. If you want to get active there is so much to do. With daily free yoga sessions and marine biology talks. Our trip highlights were defiantly the castaway picnic and the cinema under the stars. At the cinema our butler even arranged for us to have pizza – it was brilliant. We also enjoyed two snorkelling trips (the reef explorer excursion and a turtle excursion) away from the resort. I also snorkelled every day directly from our Water Suit or from the House reef. The spa was lovely too. We had a signature massage which was very soothing (probably the best massage I’ve had since our Audley trip to Bali). Our butler Zayan was attentive without being intrusive (we communicated via WhatsApp or would see him at breakfast or dinner). He organised all the things we wanted to do and made suggestions based on our interests. Nothing was too much trouble.

Had an exceptional 11 night stay at Como. The hotel and staff are fantastic at every level and I would definitely come back for a second visit. The hotel is set on a small but beautiful and well kept island. There are only a relatively small number of villas and most have their own private pools so it feels quiet and quite exclusive throughout the resort. The villas are very spacious and well appointed. I had a water suite with pool and could not have asked for more. The private pool was great. The food is very good at all the restaurants and the half/full board option is very generous in terms of what is included. The service is extremely good and Sobah, the resort manager, clearly runs a tight ship. He regularly checked how my stay was going and hosts a weekly cocktail party on the beach which is a lovely event. My villa host, Shiuny, was great and nothing was too much trouble for him (including arranging for items to be flown to the hotel from Male). The staff in the restaurants and bars are also fantastic and very friendly. They know your preferences so quickly and you are on first name terms within a day! Special thanks go to the scuba diving team and boat crew. I did many dives during my stay and they were all great. You are well taken care of by the crew on the boat during dives and the instructors (Lisa, Lena and Moosh) are all very good and knowledgable. The dives sites are all healthy and interesting plus it’s nice being the only dive boat in the entire atoll! Overall a fantastic stay and highly recommended if you wanted laidback luxury in paradise.

Without a doubt, we just came back from the best vacation ever in our lives. Everything from arrival day until the very last goodbye was beyond perfection. First, the design of the hotel and the villas themselves ( we stayed in the water suite) looks very stylish, and everything is thought out to the smallest details. The cleanliness of the rooms reaches the highest level , which is not found in many other hotels. The food, the kids club with the best nannies taking care of your child, amazing diving centre with very competent diving instructors ( you should definitely go diving in the house reef!!!), excellent gym facilities - all of these you will definitely find at COMO. Absolutely all hotel staff deserves special attention. Out of all times traveling to various countries and resorts, the staff of COMO was the friendliest and the most amazing we have seen in all times. I can't help but mention our butler Joy, who became a very good friend to us during our stay at the hotel. His care for us, his friendliness, responsiveness, attitude towards his other guests, and the way he loves his work are the best qualities that simply won us over. He has been extremely helpful from the very first day, organising everything we have asked for. We could not wish for a better butler/friend and we would very much like all people who work in the service sector to have such qualities as he does. You can talk a lot and admire a lot, but it is better to see something once, than to hear about it thousand times. We thank the hotel and all the staff for the best vacation , and we sincerely hope to come back in the nearest future!

Our honeymoon at Como Maalifushi was nothing short of perfect. My now husband and I, while not difficult, are discriminating travelers, and we loved every minute. Highly recommended - book it! But if you want specifics, here we go… Accommodations: We elected to split our time between the water villas and beach villas - and we are so glad we did!!! The water villas are gorgeous and honestly what we initially were looking for, but we LOVED the romantic privacy of our beach grotto. If (when!) we go back, we will likely stay exclusively in the beach villas. At the time of our travel there was some maintenance being performed near our beach suite, so Como Maalifushi took the initiative of upgrading our reservation to a water villa on the other side of the island before we even arrived. Of course, everything in both villas was impeccably clean, from the rooms to our private pools, and grounds crews worked tirelessly to keep the entire island looking flawless. Oh. And not a mosquito in sight. Ever. Anywhere. Service: The service is impeccable. Everyone knew our names upon arrival and our preferences by our second day. We had a difficult travel experience getting there (massive flash flood at our departing airport, and a flight delayed by 8hrs) and they seamlessly handled the updates to our sea plane travel and arrival. Our butler Joy was exceptional. He knew our schedule better than we did, and was available 24/7 for questions, recommendations, or anything else we might need. As an easy example, we decided we wanted to sleep outside on the bed/lounge on the deck of our water suite, and asked for an extra sheet. When we returned from dinner the lounge was completely made up with a fitted sheet, fresh linens and pillows - all prompted by our spur of the moment thought that it might be nice to sleep out under the stars one night… We also went on many of the offered excursions, as we had listed them as gifts under our wedding registry - and we are so glad that we did! Jinah, Nacho, and Gent went above and beyond to make our experience special. We are far from accomplished in the water, but Jinah always made us feel safe on our snorkeling adventures and was delighted to share his vast knowledge with us, making the experience warm and personable. Nacho was ever patient with our (lack) of water sport skill, and Gent’s knowledge and love of the local coral and marine life shone as he educated us about Como Maalifushi’s coral propagation efforts and aided us in building our own coral frame. Can’t wait for our update pics! We also took advantage of the twice daily yoga classes on the dedicated outdoor jetty. You have never done yoga in a more perfect setting. The instructor, Tandin, is highly trained and knowledgeable, adapting classes to his students ability level. Since we were traveling in the off season we were fortunate enough to occasionally be the only ones in class, and Tandin adjusted on the spot and tailored the classes to suit us. Even if yoga is not usually your jam, we highly recommend taking advantage of this excellent (complimentary!) offering. Food: The food. THE FOOD!! Absolutely spectacular - we ate like kings for the entire stay. The options on the menus were both varied and plentiful. Both of us are a bit particular when it comes to food and we were thoroughly impressed - it was some of the best food we’ve ever had (the gnocchi, nasi goreng, chicken katsu, and carbonara were some of our favorites, and the basil panna cotta was nothing short of inspired - I think we ordered it every other night). We also had fresh lassi and juices every morning. If you like eating delicious things, you will have plenty to choose from. The staff was friendly and warm, even coming outside the restaurant to greet us and ask about our day as we entered the restaurants. We felt comfortable and welcomed at every meal - it was a highlight of our trip. COVID-19: We felt that COMO Maalifushi’s attention to detail for cleanliness and respect as it relates to COVID-19 was top-notch, arguably even beyond what was necessary given the staff live on a remote island. The majority of the staff had face-masks on for the duration of the stay, even though we were nearly always in open air environments. I believe both guests and staff are required to be vaccinated which eased our anxieties, and the Maldives as a whole have very high vaccination rates compared to global averages. We have been taking COVID-19 very seriously due to having nearby older relatives, and we felt that the actions taken by the resort helped put us at ease. As an example and tangentially related, as a result of our travels I was feeling a bit under the weather. I was quickly provided with a COVID-19 test and medications to ease my discomfort by the resident doctor on the island (yes, you read that right - a resident doctor available) and was quickly taken care of free of charge (spoiler: it was not COVID).
