Within an hour of arriving at Chrysoula, I wanted to give it a 1-star review – first impressions were not good (but keep reading, it does get better!) The sign to reception points to a building that is no longer in use, only by luck did I stumble upon a man who informed me you must check-in at the pool bar now. For the price, I was prepared for a basic room but what I got was at the very bottom end of what I would consider acceptable. The bathroom needed a deep clean (a faint but unmistakable smell of urine lingered), air conditioning – an extra €5 per day (only mentioned in the small print on Booking.com) – was weak: I took to detaching the electricity fob from the door key so I could leave it on while I was at the pool, otherwise it took so long to chill the room it wouldn’t have been worth paying for. The bed was firm, though not quite the least comfortable I’ve slept in. Also, I stayed for 4 nights and my room was only cleaned once - luckily I'm not a messy person, but fresh towels and emptying the toilet bin more than once would have been nice. So, those are the negatives. Are there any positives? Well, yes actually. The pool is as big and fantastic as it looks in the photos (I’m a swimmer and it’s a real luxury having a full 25m pool at any hotel). Breakfasts are better than I was expecting with cooked to order pancakes, bread, toast, Greek yoghurt with honey, full English if you want it – just order at the bar and they bring it over to you. The staff are very friendly and do seem to try to give you a pleasant experience. Cold drinks at the bar are VERY cold (nothing like an ice-cold beer in the afternoon), though a tad expensive at €3 a can, when you can buy the same for €1.50 across the road. The location is okay: a supermarket is just opposite and the beach is only 150m past the supermarket. The closest tavernas are 5 minutes’ walk, though if you want more variety, it’s 15-25 minutes to get a selection of places. There is also a bus stop just to the left on the main road, useful for getting to/from Kos Town or other places on the island. In the end, I settled on a 3-star rating, because despite the efforts of the staff, the breakfasts and the pool, the rooms really need improving for it to deserve being called "very good". It wasn’t a lot cheaper than I’ve paid elsewhere - especially with the air conditioning charge added on – and it’s hard to feel like it’s great value for money.

This Appartment Hotel is a typical traditional Greek Hotel, rooms are adequate and in line with the price and accommodation style. Rooms have kitchenette with hob plates, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge/ freezer. Air cond is additional however we did not need it but trust me is does stay hot at night so be prepared for and extra charge if you suffer at night. Pool facilities are excellent, clean and safe for the kids. Pool bar serves good reasonably priced food and drink. Pool has a separate small area for the very young ones. Staff. The hotel is a family run business and has been for a long time with multiple generations still tending to your every need. Dimitri - the most laid back man in the world 😁, on arrival showed us to our rooms quite late at night without the usual focus on extracting money out of you, the owners here are fair, honest and trustworthy, something you don't find very often these days. All the staff here are customer focused from the owners to the cleaners are all there to help. Transfers Organised transfers are expensive, don't waste your money, the hotel will provide you with transfers on request at a reduced rate €25 for 2 people, €30 for 5 people. A taxi ride cost €30 for a max of 4 people so if like us you are 5 we payed €60 on the way out (use the hotel transfer) you can arrange prior to your visit. I would thoroughly recommend this Hotel if you are looking for low cost accommodation. Would definitely stay again Thank you David, Collette and kids

The location was good, had local shop , nice room , however what we found so amazing was the staff. Nothing was too much fuss. Would highly recommend. We have travelled all over eating Gyros , but “Poppy’s Gyros” was second to none. It was that phenomenal, we ate it daily !! We were picked up from airport and dropped off their too. Would never consider staying anywhere else the next time we go to Kos. I can not recommend this place enough .

The hotel is clean, it is acceptable for this price. We ordered full board. For lunch you can choose a meal in the pool bar (gyros, pizza, hamburger, tzatziki etc.). The breakfast was not enough various for me. The dinner was good, but not too much meals to choose. The water temperature of the pool was perfect. Nice hotel, for good price.

This is a family friendly hotel run by a friendly family. Pool is the best in kefalos. Chrysoulas chips are to die for. Despite going self catering we have never cooked a meal, but why would you when you have a choice of 50 or so restaurants within an easy evening stroll. There are also bars locally including the best on the Island, My Place previously known as The Dolphin Bar or the Dolphin Rock Cafe.
