De Vere Latimer Estate has an intriguing story to tell. Known as one of Britain's most secret homes, the mansion house played an important part in military intelligence during World War II. Today, the hotel has undergone a £7m refurbishment to add 21st-century comfort and style whilst complementing the original character of the property. You’ll find a blend of bold modern spaces and elegant suites that set the tone for memorable events and unforgettable weddings alike. Enjoy a warm welcome in our recently-refurbished restaurant, bar and outdoor courtyard, where you’ll discover locally-sourced, seasonally-inspired menus. All set within contemporary spaces where natural elements combine with fine materials. Meanwhile our new artisan coffee shop Burr & Co. offers a selection of high-quality drinks and sweet treats for guests. When you want to take some time out to unwind, our collection of bedrooms await, with half of them refurbished to reflect the revival of British heritage design.

De Vere Latimer Estate is celebrated for its grandeur and historical charm, boasting a picturesque setting that captivates guests seeking serenity. While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive commendations, the room experience often falls short, with guests pointing out the small size and lack of air conditioning.
Service quality appears inconsistent, with instances of both commendable attentiveness and sluggishness. Travelers are divided on value, with some feeling the costs outweigh the benefits, despite the hotel's praised amenities and stunning location.

Went for a wedding reception and stayed overnight. Lovely place, attentive staff, excellent breakfast. We had an immaculate double room behind the main reception. Comfortable bed, AC at a pleasant temperature, excellent shower. Grounds are beautiful too. Would be back in heartbeat.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback from your recent stay at Latimer Estate. Being a previous bride of Latimer myself I know personally how amazing our team can make the day and it is always nice when you can hang up the car keys and enjoy the night away. We hope we get to welcome you back to Latimer again soon.

We stayed here the weekend before New Year’s Eve, on arrival we were greeted by reception staff who were very friendly and welcoming. I was asked if I wanted to book in for dinner that evening to which I explained that I had been in touch prior to my arrival via email and booked in for 8pm, it was apparent the person I’d emailed had not booked me in but nonetheless the receptionist was happy to make my booking for me. So we went upstairs to our room to get changed and come down for dinner. I was quite disappointed with the bathroom which was ridiculously small, I couldn’t even stretch both my arms out without touching something either side of me and actually had to walk into the bathroom sideways, other than that the room was lovely, clean and the bed was so Comfortable.
We then proceeded to the restaurant and got told by the host they had no booking for us...now although it wasn’t too busy and they managed to seat us without a problem, I felt rather annoyed by this as it now meant that twice I had tried to book in and this was not communicated! It also took them a while for the waiters to take our order and within 40 minutes of being sat down we still had not received our starters! The rest of the meal however was very nice and the service did eventually pick up a bit.
My husband and I decided to take breakfast as room service as we don’t often get to have breakfast in bed, so I left the card outside the door as they request, but when I woke up in the morning I noticed it was still hanging on the door...I called reception to inform them and they very kindly came up to collect it and had our breakfast sent up within a reasonable time, however sadly my husband wanted smoked salmon and eggs for breakfast on both mornings and they didn’t have them available, whist they were very kind in giving me extra bacon etc to make up for it, it did mean my husband missed out on his breakfast. We were also a little surprised that a housekeeper walked in on us at 9:30am however she did apologise and walk back out.
We then decided to order lunch room service, I ordered a steak and kidney pie, sticky toffee pudding and 2 diet cokes, my husband had the curry and an appletiser. I got a knock at the door from the receptionist telling me there was no pie left (not a big deal I decided on the burger instead). The food came, then I got another knock on the door from the receptionist informing me they had no sticky toffee and there had been a miscommunication but this was rectified by taking it off our bill.
We decided to go back to the restaurant for our second night and this time the service was much better and the food was so delicious. We then decided to take a swim in the pool before it closed, the pool was a good size and being 9:30pm we were the only ones in there so it was great!
So whilst there have been a few little niggles during our stay, I have to say overall we did have a lovely time and we did come away feeling very relaxed

We have just arrived back from a very enjoyable weekend at the De Veré. Our package was booked through The Daily Telegraph and Secret Escapes. Our package included two nights bed and breakfast with a two course evening meal.
Initially when we checked into our room we were confronted with a brick wall when looking out of the window. Being on such a beautiful estate I couldn't believe this, but it was soon rectified. The hotel had kindly provided a plastic bag containing face masks and hand sanitiser and it was a rule that whilst walking inside the hotel, face masks were worn. However once in the dining room and seated, these could be
removed.
The menu provided for the evening meal was very varied, including a separate Vegan menu. If one required to take three courses, the extra meal was added to the room Account together with any drinks consumed either during the day or at table.
Breakfast was self service with fresh fruit such as fresh melon, prunes, or oranges
in sealed plastic containers. If one required a cooked breakfast, this was served from a long counter where you informed the server of your choice. This was limited to bacon, sausages, tomatoes, and scrambled egg due to it being impossible to serve anything fried! Toast was prepared for you.
We were quite surprised on returning to our room during the afternoon on our first day, that our bed hadn't been made nor the bathroom cleaned. We were told that guests were not happy about other people walking in and out of their room. Also the rooms had to be especially sanitizer and rooms sealed for two hours before entry again, all down to COVID of course. I have to say the whole of the interior of the hotel was spotlessly clean.
The grounds are extensive and there are some wonderful views and walks of the surrounding area.
There are a number of roadworks en route to Amersham, and if you have the Wayz App. this is worth using, thus avoiding a half hour in traffic through Chesham.

Where do I start?! Booked & paid for supposed superior rooms which were anything but. Rooms not very big & smallest bathroom I have had in any hotel we have used. Room was not very clean, dust on bedside lamps & ceiling light. Bathroom mirror was smeared so had to wipe down ourselves. Tea & coffee tray didn’t seem to have been replenished since the last guests & their used plates & glasses were on the floor outside the room when we arrived. Can’t believe we had to use paper cups in rooms & also the restaurant at breakfast. Not what you expect from a “luxury” hotel! Bath panel in the bathroom was warped, split & had brown stains on from what looked to have been a leak under the bath. This was confirmed when the bathroom floor flooded when the shower was in use. We stayed for 2 nights & we weren’t advised at check 8n that if we wanted our room to be serviced, we had to let them know! Needless to say, we were out of our room for 12 hrs only to return to our wet towels still being in the bath & the tea/coffee not being replenished. We had to request clean towels from reception & they were delivered by the receptionist once she finished her shift at 10:30pm. We expected to have some lovely views from our room as we had been advised at the time of booking to book superior rooms in the Mansion house rather than the annex. Imagine our disappointment when our view was the brick wall of the leisure complex!! The room was dark & gloomy even in the daylight. Perhaps this was intentional to disguise the dust & poor room cleanliness. As with most of the other reviews, we have stayed in far superior Premier Inn rooms for half the cost of these rooms. They are most definitely not worth the £150 per night price tag. We felt that priority was given to wedding guests & those of us just staying independently were given rooms with no views etc. The only saving grace at this hotel was the restaurant where we had breakfast. Food was good & staff very attentive, particularly
the lady who I assume was the the restaurant manager. All in all a very disappointing stay for what should have been a birthday treat with friends. I will be contacting DeVere head office to complain & will choose more reasonably priced Premier Inns for future weekends away as you can really on comfort & cleanliness!, Poor show Latimer ☹️

This hotel is in a beautiful location and the main building is stunning. You really feel special when you walk in! Main areas are nice, as was our room. Breakfast good and generous.
Service in bar area was a bit hit and miss, sometimes we had to wait quite a while to get served but as it's supposed to be a relaxing break you can live with that!
The main thing that let down this hotel for us was the state of the changing rooms in the swimming pool - the school changing rooms at my old school back in the 1980s were honestly better than these! Changing rooms are too small, grubby tiles, pathetic showers with flimsy shower curtains, broken hairdryers... I could go on!! The shower by the sauna was out of order so I witnessed people going straight from the sauna, dripping with sweat, into the pool!!
For the type of establishment that this venue aspires to be, and the amount of money that has obviously been invested in other parts of the estate, they really need to bring the "health centre" into the 21st century.
We would return if the health centre was upgraded, the rest of the hotel is beautiful and certainly relaxing.

This was our third visit to De Vere Latimer Estate and this time we stayed three nights on a DBB deal. The room had been deep cleaned and sealed before our visit. Although small it was well equipped and came with a complimentary Covid kit comprising masks and sanitiser. Due to Covid restrictions the room was not serviced during our stay but that was not an issue for us.
Covid precautions throughout the hotel were sensible; masks were required when moving through common areas but could be removed once seated in the restaurant or bar. There were plenty of sanitiser points throughout the hotel. Staff serving in restaurant and bar were always masked. Both dinner and breakfast had to be pre-booked to avoid congestion. This was a sensible approach.
Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Plenty of choice and wonderfully cooked and presented. Both were unhurried and the restaurant is a beautiful environment in which to dine.
Table service for drinks in the bar could be a little slow due to staff being busy but this was not an issue due to the relaxing surroundings.
Finally, it must be said that all the staff, whether at reception or in the bar or restaurant were very friendly and helpful. This contributed greatly to a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will certainly be back.

We decided this year we would do weekends in the U.K. given the current covid situation, I picked this hotel because my partner likes a place with history to it.
The hotel was beautiful , we were staying in a superior room 104 which was lovely but didn’t make me go wow , (sadly this room is close to the generators or fans not sure which so u could hear them continuously ! No ones fault these things are needed ) .
The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and is a stunning building with some interesting history.
Staff were amazing nothing was to much trouble and everyone had a smile on their faces,
The room and hotel was very clean and the beds of great comfort, there were tea/coffee facilities in the room and also a hair dryer iron and ironing board and a really cute covid kit containing hand sanitizer wipes gloves and masks (a really lovely touch in today’s world ) !! The toiletries were of great quality (sorry I took the moisturiser I liked it to much)
We booked a table in the restaurant on the night we arrived for 9pm and it was very busy, we did have to wait until 9.30 to be seated but they were very apologetic and provided complimentary drinks whilst we waited (nice touch), we expected to have to queue and wait for things as we are still under covid restrictions and I’d sooner wait an extra 5 minutes for a table whilst it’s cleaned . The restaurant was lovely I can imagine during normal times it would look amazing with table cloths and set out beautifully but sadly again not the hotels fault , regulations mean no table clothes etc so it felt a little like a school dining hall,
The food however was beautiful and very reasonably priced we had two courses and it was less than £50 , the food was of good quality and presented wonderfully, again nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Breakfast was served in the ?? Orangery (not know if that’s what it’s called but it’s what it reminded me of) it consisted of a full English breakfast served by the chef as they do in a Toby inn, the breakfast was lovely and also offered a range of pastries fruit and yogurts, tea coffee juices and bottled water. The hotel is currently using disposable cups but were happy to get crock cups for people who were complaining .
The first morning my partner booked in at the swimming pool whilst I relaxed in the room , sadly the swimming pool is a total different kettle of fish (see attached photos) , the pool was apparently lovely but the changing area was in need of massive updating and repair (given we’ve been in some kind of lockdown for 15 months I’d have thought these would have been addressed ) , my partner felt they were disgusting given the cost of the hotel per night .
Over all we have no complaints we had a lovely stay and I’d recommend it to others just don’t use the pool

I’ll try to be as objective as possible!
We stayed here the last weekend in feb 2020 for one night in celebration of my husband’s birthday and a break from the kids 😁 we had booked a superior room with a view.
Despite the low trip advisor rating (we usually never book anything that’s been rated less than 4 on trip advisor) we had high hopes since it is a DE VERE.
I believe the hotel claims to be a 4 star and they’re definitely trying but it’s not quite there.
Pros:
>Clean
>Warm room
>iron and ironing board available in the room
>Safe available in the room
>Friendly staff
>Huge grounds
>Amazing views
>Food was nice, good portion size (we’re both gluten free and there was pretty much only one dish we could have but catch of the day was delicious)
Cons:
>Tiny Room
>Tiny bathroom
>Tiny bed
>Terribly thin toilet paper (reminiscent of what you’d get at school!)
>freezing cold bathroom since the radiator wasn’t working. (Called reception who said they’ll send someone but someone never appeared!)
>freezing cold bathroom floor (like you’ve stepped onto ice)
>No tissue box
>No shower cap (you do get the usual shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, cream and a soap)
>No fridge
>horrible buzzing noise going all night from the switch that’s meant to turn the bathroom radiator on (eventually turned it when realise it doesn’t affect the room radiator!)
>not a great night sleep!
We didn’t visit the “spa” because it was in a different building with no access from the main building we were in.
I think that if they add the small touches of a tissue box, fridge, a working bathroom radiator (or at least send someone to fix it!) then they may reach a 3.5/4 star rating.
Underfloor heating in the bathroom would’ve been a great idea to put in during the refurb since it’s cold most of the year here!
Overall a decent stay for one night but anymore and I would’ve had to find alternative.

We went to Latimer Place for a women's retreat with church. There were about 70 of us (adults and children) and what we arranged with the organizers is not what we received. We requested downstairs rooms for people with mobility issues, and they did not provide this. The buildings did not have any lifts, so it made getting around hard for the older people. The event organizer, Alice, REFUSED to come and see us when we arrived and had issues with our rooms, she didn't come to see us at all over the weekend. We were supposed to be housed in the Mews building, but were split between Mews and Waterhouse. Waterhouse and Mews didn't have any lifts and the rooms in Waterhouse were so tiny, literally shoe box rooms! Those with inadequate rooms were relocated to Mansion house, but the event organizer Alice instructed the receptionists to stop changing the rooms, but didn't even come down to resolve the issues herself.
Many of the rooms didn't have a working heater at night (this is when we had snow over the weekend btw). Some of our guests actually had to use the hairdryer on their body to warm themselves up!!! The rooms also did not have hot water during in the morning, and it was warm/hot only at night. The double rooms were also so small, and definitely not worth the price we paid. They did not have any family rooms, only single double beds in rooms, which was not that appropriate for mothers with a few young kids. A number of rooms had toilets that also wouldn't flush! One of our guests was moved to another room 5 times over the weekend (the other 4 rooms also had issues so they kept changing her room again).
Hayley, Ewan and Ben looked after us while we were there, and they were part of the reason we enjoyed the rest of our stay, despite the many issues. Hayley was there late at night once we finished dinner and the kitchen staff finished, and was there first thing in the morning to ensure everything was ready for our breakfast. Their service was great, but it doesn't take away from the horrific start to our retreat namely caused by Alice's rudeness displayed by her not coming to solve our issues on arrival, and her not providing the agreed provisions for our stay.
We used this place about 10 years ago, and thought we would try it again (we hold annual retreats/conferences) but we will never be coming here again. Rooms were poor, initial planning was poor and we deserved the service that we were paying for.

We stayed here in August 2021. The hotel is in a great location but it is let down by disorganised and inexperienced staff.
The first room we were offered was right next to noisy plant/equipment. I never understand why hotels put rooms next to noisy equipment and think guests will pay for them. The replacement room was better but the bathroom sink plug was stuck. Despite the best efforts of one of the reception staff to fix it we could not use the sink.
The grounds were nice with outside lounge areas to the sides of the hotel with great views across the valley and in a quiet location. There are some nice walks in the surrounding area.
The service in the restaurant was slow and chaotic. There did not seem to be anyone in charge. As a result orders were not taken from tables, staff wandered around with dishes/drinks not sure who had ordered them. No one was managing the bar and different staff were making drinks but not sure what to do with them. The food was OK but expensive for what it was.
The next morning the drinks glasses had been left on the outside tables, from the night before, and were not tidied up until close to midday.
It has the potential to be a lovely hotel but managers need to control and manage their staff.

You can't take any train or bus directly from this area to Harry Potter world so definitely would either drive yourself or get an Uber/taxi

Holmes Chapel, United Kingdom237 contributions24 helpful votesHi, we are staying next weekend and will need to charge our car. How many EV chargers are there and is there anything we need to know in advance to use them?
Thank you.
We often go in for coffee, lunch or both after walking our dog, wearing wellies etc after a soggy dog walk
The best pub is the is Red loin in Chenies Good fun pub decent food.
The best restaurant is an old school Italian called Rucola in Little Chalfont . Family owned excellent food both about a mile from Latimer house
I agree, it was an appalling experience, and even though we are exiting a pandemic this is no excuse for such poor service.
