A very nice hotel. We had a great time at Hotel Yllaskaltio. Whilst the rooms are not that modern and a little dated they were very clean throughout and our room had very large windows with an excellent view of the Northern lights. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was all very efficient and tasty. Our only complaint was the complimentary drinks voucher we received upon check in, we only used the bar in order to redeem it but were told after our drinks were poured that it wasn't valid against alcoholic drinks, there was no mention of this on the terms and conditions on the voucher. A bit annoying but apart from that would love to stay here again in the future.

Tjis hotel's general shape feels like an insult to Lapland and Finland. In serious need of R-E-N-O-V-A-T-I-O-N. Solo traveller € 120/night albeit with breakfast is OTT. Staff though are super friendly and helpful.

Have just returned from a 4 night trip with TUI. The TUI reps were brilliant and the excursions were great. The hotel is in a good location a small walk to the supermarket and frozen lake. Our room was very dated with dirty furniture & stains on the chairs, food stains all up the wall and even on the ceiling. No towels when we checked in and the radiator wasn’t working, the room also hadn’t been cleaned properly as an entire shelf was covered in loose crisps. The shelf in the bathroom was hanging off and the rooms are not serviced the entire stay so the bins overflow and towels are not changed. Very small choice of food nothing really for kids only bread and chips. Hallways are also not cleaned. Would say this is more of a 2 star hotel for English standards.

First and foremost, this is a positive review and in no way should put you off going as with a few upgrades and choice I’d bring my family back here tomorrow. Please take this as a constructive criticism. We have just arrived home after a four night stay (22nd to 26th Dec 2022) the hotel is a little dated, could do with a complete refurb (imho) as the rooms are very basic but with everything you need (apart from a bath) Lapland is very tiring with all the snow gear on and after a long day my go to is a long hot bath. The stairs to the mezzanine are very steep, not slightly, and if you have children of a certain age who like to still get in with Mum and Dad, these are an accident waiting to happen. Or even if Mum and Dad sleep here instead, if your like me who has a weak bladder, they are a mission to navigate and not wake the kids. Our room was south facing and to have any chance of seeing Northern lights without going out then ask for a North facing room. The food in the hotel was ok. Breakfast (imo) was more catered for continental, there was bacon, mini hot dog sausages and creamy scrambled eggs, me personally, just having that option of requesting any type of egg would be ideal. I’m sure this could be included, especially the prices you pay for Xmas. A couple of fried eggs or poached would t have gone amiss. Like others have said too, the food could be hotter. I also have to point out that parents who let their kids go and help theirselves (I’m all for it) just stay away from the Nutella, the amount of little sneaky fingers having a swoop of the bowl I couldn’t ignore. (Bless ‘em) we’ve all done it lol. The food is ok, I ate well, I just expected more from a holiday that cost a lot of money. Hotel prices I thought were very expensive, 5 euros for a qtr of a cup of hot chocolate with squirts cream and 2 marshmallows. All drinks, snacks and souvenir’s are expensive. Finally, I need to repeat. It’s a great hotel, it could be much better with a few quid spent on it as us customers pay a lot, and I mean a lot to stay here. Please reinvest in the hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We will return…..look out for an update should the changes happen. Good luck Snow Princess and thanks

Just returned from a four day break with TUI at the Snow Princess. Fabulous holiday, great hotel. Yes, rooms are basic but perfectly adequate, plenty of room, good shower, extra pillows on request. Food plentiful and varied and, as a coeliac, I was well catered for. Excellent staff and a special mention of the chef who cooked a special meal for my niece who has a number of allergies. Really went the extra mile for her. Great hotel for kids, lovely little play room, sledges for outside. Short walk to shops and frozen lake. Frequent busses to ski centres. Really couldn't fault it. Thank you.

The hotel itself is pretty good if not a little basic - food is good and the bar prices are typical for Finland. The big problem is the heating In our room ...it simply doesn't work. Its -26 outside and the staff think it's acceptable to simply ignore the problem and didn't even offer a small portable heater until I suggested it. Very VERY poor and this , couldn't care attitude , spoils what would have been a much better review that I would have written otherwise.

Hello Andrew, thank you for writing a review. It is true that sometimes, when there is a very rapid, extreme change in temperatures, some parts of the heating (and cooling) system for this big building might take a little while to catch up. It's not a common occurance but we are armed with portable heaters for a quick fix - I apologise for the staff not suggesting this solution to you on their own, and for making you feel like they don't care. A hotel room should be warm and cozy after activities in the beautiful Lapland outdoors. We will learn from this. I understand that otherwise you enjoyed your holiday, that is great to hear! Merry Christmas!

We really enjoyed our stay here, the staff were friendly and helpful and outside the front you can use the sledges and you may see reindeer wandering around. The restaurant was spacious and we didn’t have to queue for food or struggle to get a table. The food was varied and as long as you have a varied pallet, you will find something different every day. I had reindeer and cheese soup, chicken keiv, chicken breast, sole and flounder, lovely potato wedges. There was ham and cheeses for breakfast and also tried some pickled trout which was lovely. A fabulous choice of breads I really liked the raisin bread. Our 6yr old found something to eat everyday too. It’s a shame it wasn’t all a bit hotter though. The rooms, as they say are simple, I think they could improve them by putting decent duvets on and less lumpy pillows, but the room provides everything that you need in a very basic way. Rooms are very clean, warm, small and practical. All inclusive worked really well as we are a family of five and everyone could get what they wanted. There is a short walk into Akaslompolo which takes you to a small shopping mall with a few nice shops and some bars and restaurants. The kids had plenty to do through TUi we made Christmas crackers, had story time with Captain T and built a snowman. Kiitos hyvaa joulua hotel snow princess!

Just spent the week at the hotel on (20-27 Feb 2022) on a group skiing holiday though Crystal Ski. There were 14 of us - 9 adults and 5 kids. The hotel is in a good location- short walk to the shops and bars. The ski bus picks up from the front of the hotel and Crystal Ski customers can get free daily bus tickets from the hotel reception. The bus trip to the ski resort is 4km and only takes 10 minutes. The hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable. We stayed in a quad room with 2 single beds downstairs and 2 beds up stairs in a mezzanine. There is a wardrobe with sliding mirror doors and a fridge. The bathroom is a wet room with shower, sink and toilet, and a sauna. The rooms were warm. A bit too warm at times but you can open the windows (near in mind it can be -20 outside!) The food was good. Food is taken in the restaurant. Breakfast had a wide choice including cereal, fruits, continental and egg, bacon and sausages. Evening meal is a buffet and there was plenty of food and choice. The kids (teenagers) enjoyed the food too. There is a bar in the restaurant and a bar in the foyer. The kids liked the games room. The hotel staff were very polite and helpful. Always there to help with questions and service was good too. They helped us arrange a taxi bus to the Snow Village (which was by far cheaper option than booking an organised trip). We even saw the Northern Lights outside the hotel! We really enjoyed our trip to Lapland and I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Thanks for having us.

Location is great and not a problem getting to the slopes on a bus which is really frequent. Hotel basic as in other reviews but ok. Staff very lovely. Could definitely do with an interior update mostly in the rooms, stairs and corridors. Only issues were the food mostly the evening meal which as others have said there is barely any choice and nothing for the kids at all. They must use the same herb/spice in everything as everything tastes the same and isn’t great. As someone else said with a fussy eater all there is are chips which even she got sick of. Also our room only got cleaned once which wasn’t great. Finland itself is beautiful and we will go again but not to that Hotel probably. The quad rooms have a very steep staircase up to the mezzanine area so be mindful if you have anyone under the age of 7.

We booked this hotel and the holiday through Crystal ski, as a package deal, and it didn’t disappoint. The hotel itself is lovely, all the employees from the front desk to the housekeeping team and the buffet team were superb and friendly. Whenever we had a question about anything they were there to help. I’m not sure as to what the other reviews regarding this hotel were on about because this place is delightful, I was tempted not to book this hotel because of the reviews but I did so anyway, and it was so worth it. Me and my partner had a quad room, which was great as we had extra space and was cheaper than just a twin room. The room itself had a personal sauna in the bathroom, a decent tv, refrigerator, a very generous storage amount and nice laminated flooring so wasn’t freezing every morning, including the black out curtains. The room had a perfect temperature at all times, not too hot and not too cold. The bathroom itself is a wet room with a nice powerful shower. Although the room may have an ‘old’ style to it, this added to the amazing experience as you’re in Lapland! Not a Marriott! The rooms were cleaned beautifully by the housekeeping team everyday at around midday, but didn’t bother us as we were out early! And the view from our window was amazing! We went half board, so every morning there was a very nice breakfast, including waffles, cereals, homemade oatmeal and hot food, although it was the same options every day, it was very nice. Dinner time was also a help yourself buffet and the options were different every evening, and there hasn’t been a dinner that I haven’t enjoyed. So many different foods to try and also Vegan, Dairy Free, Gluten Free etc section, so caters for all needs. The restaurant itself is lovely as seen in the photos below. I feel all other reviews and the website alone has awful photos and doesn’t advertise itself very well so hopefully this review can help you decide to go with this hotel. In terms of the area, it’s lovely, not near a main road, a 5 minute walk to the supermarket which has a pharmacy inside. There are activity shops left and right as you walk around the area so make sure you find the cheapest prices before you choose what activities to do. Back to the hotel, the beds in the rooms were super comfy, I’d even say better than premier inn, after skiing all day to be able to relax in the sauna and then lay in the bed was amazing, it was difficult to get out of bed every morning! Although the hotel isn’t at the bottom of the slope like some others, you can get a free (free with Crystal) ski bus that stops right outside the hotel doors every 30 minutes and takes about 7 minutes to get to the slopes. Although there is no swimming pool in the hotel, guests of the Yllaskaltio (Snow Princess) hotel are able to use the pool at Akashotelli (Snow elf) which is just a 10 minute walk down the road, and it’s a beautiful walk. The lobby in the hotel was lovely itself, had nice seats, fire place, as well as a gift shop. There was ski gear storage and there is also washing machines free to use. All in all, it was a fantastic holiday and was made even better by this absolutely wonderful hotel, we even saw the Aurora (Northern Lights) the first night we stayed! The other reviews on this hotel don’t paint a good enough picture of the experience you can have here.
