The guy on the phone was very rude and impatient when I called up earlier to enquire the pick up times at the lodge and the ending point of the Tongariro Crossing, although the lady at the counter was very helpful when we checked in.

The owners were very helpful and super friendly. The location, shuttle service and packed lunches for the hike were all great! The breakfast was simple, definitely nothing fancy. The wifi all over New Zealand leaves a lot to be desired, this hotel included. You get 100mb (which will last you about 1 hour of light Facebook checking) for up to...

Stayed at Howard's Lodge to walk the Tongariro Crossing. Shuttle was organised efficiently. Our room was great, clean and comfortable. The communal kitchen was spotless and well equipped. Grant was extremely helpful with information and assistance with bookings for our ongoing travels.

I've stayed here a few times. Always helpful staff. There was a bit of confusion about whether we needed breakfast, these things happen, they handled it well. Will definitely stay again. Adding some characters to make my review longer.

We called the Lodge after work saying we would arrive late because we were working late and were coming from Auckland. Person on the phone was not very friendly and didnt't sound like he wanted to answer any questions. He told us there was only 1 shuttle at 8am, but in the morning we heard people already left on a...

Sorry you seem to have such a low opinion of us but your review is full of frankly wrong information. Our shuttle went at 8am, it did not go at 7, we gave you the correct information. We (typically) have one departure in the morning and various return times in the evening. You seem to imply you were deliberately mislead,...

We booked the 2 night tongariro alpine crossing package with transport and lunch included. The lovely woman working reception checked us in quickly and smoothly. Unfortunately for us, the weather turned bad and as there would have been no visibility and lots of rain, the hike was cancelled. (this means that the Lodge won't drop you at the mountain for...

Thank you fro appreciating us having to give news paying guests don't want to hear, i.e. that they can't do the crossing as planned. It is always a bit tricky from our end but our motives are pure. Glad to hear you enjoyed stay in any case.

We chose to stay at Howard's Lodge while doing the Tongariro Criossing last Thursday. It was easy because they offered a shufttle bus service to the start of the track and also to be picked up at the other end afterwards. You could also pre order lunches to take on the track with you. The stay was comfortable at Howard's...

Yes some transport chaos your day but you may be interested to know that will be a thing of the past with decisions that have been made by DoC. From June there will be no private cars on the roads to and from the crossing.

We stayed at Howard's Mountain Lodge in the ensuite room for a couple of nights. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The communal kitchen was well equipped. An enjoyable experience and would be happy to return if we were in the area again.
