We thoroughly enjoyed or near two week stay at Copper Beech. We were there for a family reunion and to enjoy our children showing the sights of the North of Graham Island. We stayed in the Harbour Master's Keep. Our bed was comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The breakfasts that Fabian and Margot offered were delicious--homemade sour dough bread, fresh baking every morning, croissants or galettas, homemade jams, yogurt, rhubarb compote, eggs, and wonderful coffee. Their special Sunday dinners were excellent. We appreciated the special dinner they made for us and our family. They decorated the outside tables beautifully, put a fire on, and then when we moved inside our happy dining experience continued. The art work and curios at Copper Beech are lovely and so is waking up in the morning to visit the pier and watch the fishing boats come in and out on the inlet. I have learned so much from the historic garden as well...what grows well on Haida Gwaii. Thank you Susan, Fabian, and Margot.

The definition of charm and comfort is to be found in this quaint historic cottage. Located on the shore at the village boat basin in a quiet neighbourhood. The bed was very comfortable and the room had all you could need. Breakfast was fresh and varied. There is a large sunny deck overlooking the garden. My room had a bathroom off the kitchen but it was not a problem for me as the place feels so much like home.

My husband, a friend and I had a wonderful three days in Masset - made all the more wonderful by staying at the Copper Beech House. Susan and Charlotte were delightful, warm and perfect hosts. Helpful and welcoming without being intrusive. The rooms were full of magical and elegant touches. Quirky but very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious - home made bread, jams, granola, yogurt and stewed and fresh fruit. I’m a bit of a coffee snob and always travel with my own - but no need to brew my own here. The view of the wharf, boats and garden are totally magical. Thank you!

I traveled with my cousin, so we shared the Cloud 9 suite with en suite bath. We loved the entire experience, the hosts, Susan and Charlotte couldn't have been more accommodating. Fabulous breakfast, one day home made sourdough bread, cured salmon, pickled sea asparagus, home made jams, lots of fruit, great coffee, beautiful outside seating and garden and a charming one of a kind interior. We highly recommend the Copper Beech House.

I loved this place. It's an old house, a little creaky, a little crooked but clean and comfortable. I stayed upstairs in the Cloud9 suite. The bed was comfy and the house is full of charm, beautiful art and has a host of interesting eclectic oddities. There is outdoor space with a nice deck with a table and seating. Susan was easy to reach and very helpful. Haida Gwaii is not a place where you find fancy hotels. It is a place of incredible beauty and is steeped in the rich culture of the Haida. Copper Beach House is a great home base for exploring the North end of the Island.

My apologies for the tardiness of this review. We stayed in July of 2022 despite it saying Oct 2022. We spent 4 nights in the Harbour Masters Keep. I loved the comfort, the decor of local craftsman and artists. Appreciated the balance of privacy of the suite and the fellowship of the common areas and breakfast. Personable, friendly and helpful owner and staff. The outdoor patios were a bonus. Great location, great food, great host. Thank you

Excellent accommodation in an older house with lots of character, history and a relaxing atmosphere. Not a place for someone looking for a quick accommodation fix. You're touring one of the most amazing landscapes in Canada, and you need a place to relax, reflect and share your experiences with like-minded people.

When travelling, you end up staying at many different types and quality of accommodations. Occasionally, ones stand out that create memories. The Copper Beech House is one of these.

We were greeted by an adorable young lady by the name of Julia. She made sure we were settled in OK and that everything was good. We were staying in the "Garden View Suite" (all the room have names and their own character). An amazingly comfortable and king sized bed awaited our sleeping pleasure, with windows and curtains all around. The room is effectively a self contained apartment minus the cooking facilities.

As it turned out, Susan Musgrave, the owner, renowned poet and, as it turned out, an incredibly talented cook, was preparing a meal for the guests that night. For a minimal price, we enjoyed a gourmet quality meal with a very interesting group of people (funky places seem to attract interesting people!). While not licensed, we enjoyed a bottle of our own wine with the meal and the stimulating conversation.

I just love Susan to bits. You'd never know she was a major force in literature by her personality: warm, VERY funny and real...she's one of those people you just instinctively like! She also helped us out by arranging a great local guide (Hi, Arbor!!) to allow us to watch day break out at the end of the Rose Spit, the site of the Haida birth of creation legend.

As others have said, the house is filled with (quite often kitschy) treasures accumulated over many years by a series of extremely eclectic (and pretty far out there!) owners. It is the coolest place I've ever stayed in terms of surroundings. The home is a century house that has quite the history of its own, set beside the marina amongst a grove of large trees including, strangely enough, a massive Copper Beech!

The Copper Beech House B&B is simply the best. It will be the yardstick by which I measure all other B&B's wherever I stay in the future. And we WILL be back...I will not deprive myself of the pleasure of this wonderful establishment and lovely people when opportunity permits.

All the best,
Phil

Copper Beech B&B has a lot of soul and class, and is easily the nicest B&B I've ever seen. Two of us newlyweds stayed one night and were treated to a beautiful, clean and artistically appointed room (Cloud 9), and a special lunch that culinarily could not be found anywhere else on the island, and since that's not saying a lot, I doubt we could find so unique and delicious a meal in Vancouver for the price we paid. Brilliant. A few caveats: the walls a thin so prepare for that, and the rooms and common rooms are small so privacy may be an issue... but you're in Haida Gwaii so get the hell outside. Thank you Susan and Julia.

We are a family of three that spent two nights here at the end of August 2013 during our first trip to Haida Gwaii. We loved everything about the Copper Beech House and we felt so welcomed by Julia and Susan in their very relaxing atmosphere. Cloud 9 was our room and it was spacious and cozy and was the entire upstairs. All the guests we met were wonderful. Breakfast was all set out and you could dine when you wanted between 8-10am which was nice not having a set time. Susan makes delicious homemade jams and breads. The house is full of art, antiques, books and there is so much to look at. We set out exploring everyday and the sights were close by. I could have used a few more days here!
