Providing world-class fishing packages for the last 35 years, Peregrine Lodge is an all-inclusive, premier salmon fishing resort located in Naden Harbour, Haida Gwaii. We are home to some of the best salmon fishing waters on the coast and we pride ourselves on our exceptional service and hospitality.
This was my first trip with Peregrine Lodge but my 7th or 8th trip to Haida Gwaii. My experience with Peregrine was nothing but fantastic. Great communication from booking straight through the entire trip. Food was amazing and the staff were all helpful and very friendly. Our guide Steve M was great. He guided us to some awesome Chinook's, Coho, and Halibut. We did luck out with the weather and the Ocean was very calm for us. We will definitely be coming back again.

The Lodge staff were great. Food was delicious and our Guide was a blast. Fishing was also quite good…..we let a couple of lunkers go and caught a mess of Coho and quite a few Chinooks. :)
Weather was unusually sunny for a couple of days and that topped off the trip in a nice way. Peregrine Lodge does a great job - been going since ‘97. I’ll go again for sure.

Had the worst experience of any destination fishing trip I’ve ever taken. This resort needs to spend some money upgrading equipment and boats. There were daily issues with boats breaking down and having to get towed back in. Every boat has issues with Downriggers not working. We fished early June and the run hadn’t arrived yet so we were essentially blackmouth fishing, trolling spoons. I spent and entire day with a broken downrigger on my side catching zero fish while the guy on the other side with a functional downrigger landed 9. They don’t have ice for the fish so you end up with mush on one side of the fish. Upon receiving out fish at the airport in Vancouver I opened the boxes to find that none of my fish from the four day trip was frozen. Complete waste! There are tons of outfitters. Find a different one.

Response from Peregrine Lodge, Owner at Peregrine Lodge
Responded 28 Apr 2023
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback related to your trip to Peregrine Lodge in June of 2022. We are very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We take every measure to ensure we are offering high-quality and well-maintained equipment to our guests. We apologize that you encountered an issue with your downrigger, and we appreciated your patience as we worked to address the problem as quickly as possible. We apologize if your fish arrived in a defrosted state. All of our guests’ fish is vacuum packed, flash frozen at the lodge, then boxed in double waxed fish boxes and finally topped with cryo-pack ice sheets. As we have no control over individual guests’ travel times and arrangements, we do recommend a third-party shipper at the lodge to ensure your catch arrives safely and frozen to your final destination. Regarding the boat upgrades, we understand your frustration and apologize for any confusion that may have occurred. The boat you were assigned was the boat associated with your booking. We make every effort to ensure that our guests are aware of the booking process and any associated fees for boat upgrades, including sending multiple confirmation emails to all of our guests prior to their arrival. We apologize if this was not clear to you, and we will review our communication methods to ensure that we are providing all relevant and necessary information to our guests. We would like to clarify that guests who have booked and paid for boat upgrades do have priority for the available upgraded boats, and all of our larger boats were already pre-booked for the duration of your trip. We understand that this may have been disappointing for you, but we believe it would have been unfair to take a boat rental away from a guest who had pre-arranged and pre-paid for that boat. We have contacted you directly twice and spoken with you in an attempt to provide an acceptable resolution to your experience, although unsuccessful on both occasions. We appreciate and take all of our guests’ feedback seriously so that we may provide a better experience year after year. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you choose to reconsider our endeavors at making this right for you. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced during your stay and thank you for your feedback as it drives us to improve for all of our future visitors.

I spent a week in total at Peregrine Lodge in July 2016 - WOW ! From start to finish this holiday package far exceeded my expectations and can only be described as FANTASTIC !! An extremely well set up and smooth operation with the most amazing hard working team of girls and guys who were always smiling, enthusiastic, friendly and willing to go that extra mile to make sure that everyone were enjoying themselves. The fishing was great, we travelled from New Zealand to catch a salmon and a halibut - my first ever salmon was a king/chinook of 36 lbs !! The fishing I thought was outstanding and big bonuses were the wildlife we saw included eagles coming in the pick up any fish struggling on the surface, humpback and orca whales right in amongst the boats fishing (!) and the ever unpopular "Cecil", a huge sea lion who made a big nuisance of himself stealing a free lunch i.e. salmon off the line. And the food! There was never a danger of starving here -including freshly baked breads, pastries and donuts at the extensive buffet breakfast, lunch packs which included sandwiches over an inch thick with fillings of your choice and big buffet dinners at night. There was also an on-water bbq hamburger lunch day where we ordered our burger (fully loaded thank you!) and then motored over to the burger boat to get our lunch. Great burgers and a bit of fun. A big thank you to the chef/s and kitchen team. There is also a bar on the dock where on return every afternoon canapés awaited tired (but not hungry) fishers. It was great to have a drink and a snack there and watch the various fish being weighed in and then processed in the fish cleaning area. All fishing guides were a great bunch of guys who worked hard to get results. I was very happy with the Edgewater boat and would recommend anyone consider that option, very comfortable and perfect for the job with a small washroom on board. Accommodation was very comfy and the hot water bottle which appeared every night while we were at dinner was a thoughtful and lovely touch. I just simply cannot find fault with anything at Peregrine Lodge or the team who worked tirelessly here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting to be spoilt and pampered in a truly beautiful environment and part of the world. I could rave on for hours...... :)

This was my first trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands and I wanted to take advantage of the world class fishing available there. After some internet research, conversations at the Vancouver Boat Show and speaking to a good friend who used to work there I decided to book with Peregrine Lodge. I was told the lodge is run by very nice people and the fishing is excellent, overall his summary was spot on.
Your trip will start at Landmark Aviation in Vancouver where you will collect your fishing licence (if required), and have a few snacks before boarding an Air Canada Charter to Massett. We received a friendly greeting and confirmed our arrangements on arrival. At Massett we had a short wait before boarding a helicopter (HeliJet is the provider) and flying into the lodge. Once at the lodge our first order of business was to collect our floatation suits for use on the water. They use Helly Hansen two piece suits and have a good selection of sizes. Chances are you will be issued a suit used by someone else just before you arrived and will see a few salt stains on the suit. The suits are in good condition and are much more comfortable than one piece suits I have used in other places.
If you haven't been to the lodge before you will have to ask a few questions to figure out the routine or just be patient and wait for the orientation that is provided just before dinner. You will find many of the guests are long time clients who have been coming to the lodge for many years, our group had several clients that had already been there a couple times this year. That says a lot about their service and the fishing at Peregrine Lodge and I found it lived up to their reputation.
The food at the lodge is excellent with a good variety of entrees and desserts available at dinner. Two of the three fishing days we had sandwiches prepared to order and the other day we had burgers BBQ'd on the water by the Safety Boat Operator. At breakfast you can have your choice of cereals, fruits/berries, yoghurt, buffet style egg dishes or have eggs made to order. Don't forget to take advantage of the pastries and zip-lock bags that are provided, these snacks are especially tasty on the water later in the day.
One of the things I didn't really care for was the fees for upgrading to a larger boat. At approximately $50/day it adds a lot to your total if you aren't expecting it. The guides really prefer working for the larger Edgewater boats and will push pretty hard to get you out of the smaller Mantouks. The reality is the Edgwater boats are a lot more comfortable and give you better range which will be important if you want to fish for Halibut. I think the upgrades could be offered for a little less or perhaps they could just drop the smaller boats and the price quotes you get would more accurately reflect what a good trip will cost.
You should also be aware of the tipping guides before going to the lodge. The expectation is $50 per person / day for the guide in the smaller Montouks and $75 per person / day in the Edgewaters or Trophy's (possibly one more reason the guides push you pretty hard to upgrade) with an additional $35 per person / day recommended for the ground staff to share. All told you can count on $350 per person for the trip. The service is excellent but it is a good thing to wrap your head around the additional costs before booking if you are like me and are stretching the budget to go on what can be the trip of a lifetime.
We had two different guides on our three days and both were extremely good fisherman who know how to fish and work hard to get you the most out of your trip. The 10 1/2 hours per day (except the last day which is a travel day) is plenty of time to try a couple of different areas and cover a couple tide changes. Jorgen was exceptional, we really hit it off with him and had good results with a 40 lb Chinook and quite a few from 20 - 25 lbs while there. We also did pretty well with Halibut hitting the slot limit really well with a 43 lb and a 50 lb Halibut in addition to a few smaller fish. Our day 2 guide was a really good fisherman and worked hard but we didn't connect as well. I wasn't really happy when he replied; "I hate Halibut fishing, it's just a meat fishery" to my question about halibut fishing. I thought I was the client. BEST ADVICE: If you plan to include Halibut fishing on your trip make sure you state that up front so they will pair you with a guide who enjoys this type of fishing and is willing to accommodate you.
The rooms are really quite nice considering how from from a town you are and how difficult it is to get supplies out there. Our room was equipped with a double bed and a single bed which means if you aren't a couple, one of you gets the small bed. The phones are activated for your stay and if required you can make calls for a fee. However, the main reason to go to a remote lodge is to escape the phone so the only use I had for the phone was our morning wake-up call.
On the trip out our pilot gave us a real helicopter ride showing of his skills and the terrain. Most of us really enjoyed this flight but a couple passengers looked a little anxious.
Overall this was a wonderful trip that I would be happy to repeat. It isn't cheap though, my total cost for a 4 day trip for two is roughly the same as a 2 week all-inclusive trip to Sandals La Source Grenada for 2 weeks. I don't begrudge the cost, but it is important you factor everything in before booking. If you are planning the trip of a lifetime and can't afford a couple re-do's Peregrine Lodge is a great choice, it won't be cheap any way you cut it so don't cheat yourself out of the best possible experience by trying to cut corners.
There is a 25 lb weight restriction so I brought a dSLR camera and just one lens, no flash. Having been there I would recommend bringing a good quality compact camera with video capability and a reasonable flash unit to capture some unbelievable experiences. Several of the boats had sea lions steal their salmon from the line and devour them in front of the anglers. The safety boat operator displayed several high quality photos of this activity and all his photos are available for purchase on a USB stick or CD/DVD.

With 35 years of fishing up and down the west coast of BC behind me, I've stayed in a lot of lodges, a number in Haida Gwaii and can say this is the best I've experienced, hands down.
Old Bald Guy's review covers it well. The logistics of operating a place Peregrine Lodge must be daunting but are handled seamlessly. Arrival at dinner time is perfect as you get all the paper work out the way [licences, release form, and lunch order], as well as getting sized and suited up with the floater suits and boots for the next morning. At other lodges arrival around lunch time means a frenzy of activity as everyone jostles to get out on the water fast and the stress levels can go up - just the opposite of why I go fishing.
The bar is open [everything included except for premium wines], dinner is served and you get a good nights sleep to set you up for the morning wake up call. All the staff are very friendly and incredibly accommodating - on occasion I like a little Drambue on oatmeal in the morning and believe it or not it happened at Peregrine. The rooms are wonderfully clean, the beds are wonderfully comfortable and they've addressed the only problem Old Bald Guy had as they now have water glasses in the room. A couple of things that stand out besides the staff, food, accommodations and logistics: they promote catch and release - if you release a fish over 30lbs you are entered in a draw for a free return trip and they note every released Chinook on the daily fish board and as you step onto the dock after a cold day on the water you are handed a hot drink. And of course the fishing is fantastic. If your can afford the uptick go for a covered boat, even with the cruiser suits it can be darned cold. If you are unsure of which lodge to pick, choose Peregrine. You won't' be disappointed.

Had a phenomenal 5 day / 4 night trip up to Peregine Lodge this July. From the private jet & helicopter ride, to exquisite dining and unparalleled service, the lodge was top notch.
We had Neil as our fishing guide for all 4 days on the water and he was unreal. I had brought my 65 year old dad up for his first Haida Gwaii experience and he was keen to try out his old school 1990’s fishing strategies. Neil was incredibly accommodating, bringing out all of his 90’s requests, new lures and flashers on board daily to make the old guy happy. Who knows if they were any help, we caught our fill and were throwing back chinooks some days! As for me, a complete novice fisherwoman, excited to learn how to bait a hook and club my salmon catch, Neil taught me it all! It was the 4-day intense fishing course on salmon & halibut that id always wanted. He was incredibly patient with me, and had the calming teacher voice to go with it while I reeled in my first catch solo.
As far as safety is concerned, we felt so well taken care of the entire time. In our full mustang survival suits and guide with over 20 yrs experience guiding in the area, we were well briefed on all and any safety precautions. The whole Peregrine team goes above and beyond to ensure that you’re taken care of from end to end, my only wish was that we could have stayed longer!

I just returned from Peregrine and am eager to write this review because my trip was FANTASTIC. I apologize for the lengthy review but this place deserves to be recognized. I was with a colleague and a client and his wife, which made for a nice foursome.
Everything was smooth and fantastically organized - from the transportation and transfers to the boats and guides, to the way the fish was packaged and sent out for processing (more on this later).
It's very remote - accessible only by boat and by air. You get there with a charter flight (Air Canada Jazz to/from Vancouver) and then a 10-minute heli ride from the small town of Masset. From there you immediately go to get fitted for your suit (coveralls, boots, and a jacket) and then get settled in your room before dinner and orientation/announcements.
For fishing - I recommend wearing tight-fitting yoga pants (for women) and then a t-shirt and hoodie. Men - long underwear. Again, I found that tight-fitting tops worked well underneath bulky coveralls with suspenders. I also brought a light toque and a pair of light gloves which helps with cool mornings.
Rooms are nice - not opulent - but clean and comfortable with everything you need. There are TV's but not a lot of stations and mainly sports channels - so bring those books you have been meaning to read. Each room has its own 3-piece washroom (no tubs, but long shower stall).
Most days start at around 5:45am (wakeup) so that you can be in the boat and off fishing by 7am. You're out there until about 5pm which is a long day - so bring whatever you need to be comfortable (they offer a big selection of drinks to take with you - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). You complete a form the night before for your lunch - what kinds of sandwiches and wraps you want, condiments, etc. They have a bunch of cookies and snacks for you to take, too. They totally cater to you and make sure you have great food all day long.
Yes, let's get to the food. I am ashamed to say that I eat more than I should, but I was no match for this place. The food is AMAZING. You truly forget that this is a remote location where everything is flown in every few days because their ingredients were fresh and delicious. There is a selection of 2-3 main dishes at dinner, plus veggies and various sides and garnishes. They also have 2-3 new desserts every day which will blow your mind. One morning's breakfast featured doughnuts - HOME MADE, and around 10 varieties. They will work with you if you have a dietary issue or limitation. I definitely did not lose weight on this trip! They take food seriously, they employ quality chefs and cooks and it shows.
The main event - FISHING - There are a few different kinds of boats, and then there are the guides that go out with you who are also unique. I am not a knowledgeable fisherwoman (is that a word?) so I won't profess to know the boat differences as they relate to being conducive to good fishing. The only thing that mattered to me was the 'facilities' on board. Again, as a woman this was important as simply aiming over the side of the boat was not an option for me like it is for the men. I would definitely recommend that you get a Trophy boat if you want a decent experience. This is an upgrade (not sure of the amount) but if you have a woman in your party it is definitely something you should do. It's still basic but better than an Edgewater (trust me!). Contact the Lodge if you have questions and they will steer you in the right direction. A typical setup is 2 people per boat, plus a guide. You always have a guide, unlike some other lodges who allow self-guided tours.
Each guide is unique, and they bring a different skill set and personality to the day on the water. I liked Scott, and I especially loved Butch. He has been at it for over 20 years and is never short of a great story or anecdote. It makes a slow day fly by.
While out there we saw a pod of 10-15 orcas, a few whales, numerous eagles, sea lions (they will steal your fish from your line!!!), seals, bears, and deer. It was like National Geographic - unbelievable.
Once you're back and your fish have been brought up from the boats and weighed, you have to decide whether you want them cleaned and flash-frozen (so you can take them home with you) or if you want to send them to a processor in BC to be packaged into smaller portions, canned, smoked, candied, etc. It's a bit overwhelming but they will help you make those decisions based on what you like, and where you're going home to.
There is free satellite wifi but it is 'ok'. Opening large emails will be a bit painful but for small messages, data-based texts (iMessages) and FaceTime it's fine. I did not have cell phone reception and I don't think anyone else did either. You'll forget about that quickly, so make sure your outgoing greeting on voicemail lets people know that you have no phone access for a few days.
The staff is definitely what makes this place what it is. This is more than a rough-and-tumble lodge - this is a boutique, luxurious experience where the thoughtful details show the effort by the owner and everyone there to make it an experience of a lifetime. They have a lovely fire pit with a circle of Muskoka chairs down by the water, and while down there one of the ladies came by with a tray of ingredients for smores. They put hot water bottles in your beds at night. They have fresh hot towels for you on the dock when you come in after a long day and your hands desperately need to be cleaned. They get to know your name and remember it. This is a great group of people who try hard to make it an amazing trip.
I especially want to recognize the ladies who catered to everyone at the Lodge - Lexi, Eva, Tessie, Christina. Each of them wore numerous hats and were in such good moods to have fun with us and keep things moving smoothly. All of the staff deserves every penny of your tips so make sure you bring cash. It's about $150/day for your guide, and then about $50/day/person for the other staff at the lodge. Given the cost of the trip this is not out of line but these people work HARD, are excellent at their jobs and I was happy to recognize them.
I am not at all an expert on this place but as a first-timer and a woman I would be happy to answer any questions from the community. You need to plan to go to Peregrine at least once!

Peregrine Lodge is without a doubt, one of the best experiences I've had on vacation. We live in Texas, so we had to fly to Vancouver. We landed in around 11:30 a.m., and the charter plane they have left from a separate private terminal. Gather your bags at the airport, and go over to Landmark aviation to drop your bags off. If you have time, take a cab around the corner to The Flying Beaver. It's a great restaurant that sits right on a small inlet where float planes come in and out of the harbor. You gather at the terminal and get on a plane to Masset. When you land, you get on a helicopter (a HeliJet) and they fly you right to the lodge.
The lodge is awesome!!! It's got warm feel with tones of green lots of stained woods. The bar is centered in the lodge and the windows overlook the private boat dock and Naden Harbor. When getting off the helicopter, the fishing guides are there to get your bags and put them in your room. They then take you to the dry room and fit you for your survival suit, which is very comfortable and easy to move around in. We then went to the room to clean up and get ready for dinner. The rooms are comfortable. It's not a Ritz-Carlton, so know that ahead of time. They are clean, comfortable, and cozy. They have plenty of room, and they clean them every day.
This is the third year we have gone to Peregrine lodge...and the food is always great! However, this year the food was AMAZING! Entree's included rack of lamb, tenderloin steak, salmon, halibut, and various forms of chicken. Salads were great, but the desserts were the highlight. You fill out a lunch card for the next day's fishing. You get two lunches, since you'll be out there all day long. Also, you will want to bring some extra cash. You usually buy into the daily fishing pool. I think it was around $80 for the whole trip. The biggest Chinook salmon each day, and for the whole trip gets money. Also, you may catch a game of cards or other little betting games that they like to play. The owner, Georgia, was there and she was amazing. She gets to know everyone and such a sweet person!
The fishing on our first day was a little slow. We caught 3 Chinook salmon, and a couple of Coho salmon. Jorgan, our guide, was really cool. He is a hardcore fisherman and made the whole day fly by with funny conversation and catching fish. The second day was better fishing. We went with Johnny, one of the lead guides there. He's fished his whole life and has stories that will bring you to tears. He also catches fish! We went to catch Halibut, and I had to tell him to quit putting bait on the rods...we were too exhausted. We caught around 20-25 halibut in a 2 hour period. We had three rods in the boat, and finally had to just go with two because we had 3 fish on several times and the lines would cross. The final day of fishing is a half day. You start at 6:30 a.m. and get off the water at 1:45 p.m. You clean up, eat dinner, and get back on the helicopter to go back home.
Some things to know: It's not cheap, but it is the best...and you get what you pay for. They have upgrades available for different boats, to try to accommodate all the guests for what they want to pay. I'll tell you, upgrade to the Trophy or Edgewater boats! Worth every penny. You should bring cash for tipping. The guides usually get 75-100 per person, per day. I asked around, and that's what seems to be what most do. Also you'll tip the bartender and the staff. By the way, not to be inappropriate, but the girls that are in the lodge are HOT! If you have problems, let them know! They run a great place, and I will be back next year!!!!
