We flew into Belize a few days before Christmas 2012 and spent a few days at the Mariposa Jungle Lodge. We wanted to do some exploring in the jungle before spending the rest of our vacation on the beach in southern Belize. The Mariposa grounds...More
Mariposa was a delight from the minute we were picked up from the airport. Sharon and staff bent over backwards to accommodate our every need and make sure we had an excellent experience exploring the Cayo District. Perhaps the best measure of professionalism- they made...More
My family had the pleasure of staying at the Mariposa Jungle Lodge this December, 2012. We all had a fantastic time, and enjoyed our stay. While the lodge is not perfect in everything category, the overall atmosphere that they have created provides visitors with a...More
I did a lot of research before my trip to Belize. After a few days at San Pedro Island (which I would not bother with unless one enjoyed scuba/diving) we headed inland to the jungle!

We recently stayed at Mariposa Jungle Lodge while traveling with friends through Belize. Our experience was much more akin to being houseguests than lodgers. Gracious owners Sharon and Jim and their accomplished staff made every effort to ensure we were all well taken care of....More

Hello! I'm about to book four nights at Mariposa - it looks absolutely wonderful and the reviews here are perfect! I was looking for feedback on the Romance Dinner and the Honeymoon Cabana (Jaguar) with the outdoor shower and double hammock. Any opinion or insight as to these two? How private is the outdoor shower- sounds wonderful buy not sure my wife would feel comfortable! Is this cabana worth the upgrade you think? Also, what's the romance dinner like? I know expenses are relative, but unfortunately budget is always an issue. We will be celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary! thanks in advance for any insight/ advice you can offer!

The Jaguar Honeymoon Suite is definitely worth it for the privacy, especially the outdoor shower for two! The deck is up off the ground and there's a beautifully tiled wall that keeps anyone from seeing you. It's a cool experience and totally private. You also have an oversized screened porch with a double hammock for cuddling and listening to the jungle sounds.
The private romantic dinner is a nice touch and it comes with a complimentary bottle of wine. When weather permits, we can set this up poolside which creates wonderful ambience for the two of you. With the romance package you also get a champagne welcome, flowers in your room, and a little Belizean gift basket. Nice touches for your anniversary!
Full disclosure: I was first a guest of Mariposa in 2012 and fell in love with the place, and now help them with marketing. For 2017 trips we're offering 10% off packages including romance :)

Is there a fee for transportation from and to the international airport? If so, how much?
Would it be a problem to stop at the Belize Zoo with the driver if you provide transportation?
Air conditioning is listed as extra, how much is the additional charge for air conditioning?
Sorry for all the questions, it's our first visit to Belize!

The one-way fee for an a/c van with licensed driver/guide is $191, tax included. A guided visit to the Zoo is $33/pp, which includes $15 entry fee, guided tour or waiting time and tax. A/C is complimentary with full packages or else a modest surcharge of $12.50/day, tax included, to defray electricity cost.
