We enjoyed our 5-night stay at Elihotel. Our room was large, the bed comfortable and the view of the sea was beautiful. Swimming in the sea was perfection. So, why only 3 stars? The food was below average. Breakfast was OK - there was a very good coffee machine, good croissants and bread, vegetable salads, and fruit. But dinner was a disaster. We had to wait up to 30 minutes between courses - and for what? A tiny piece of fried fish, a microscopically thin piece of veal, dried out pasta? And the salads and fruit were clearly leftovers from breakfast. I expected more from Sicilian cooking. And there was nowhere within walking distance where we could dine out. A good chef would be a big improvement.
Since cheapest rooms were sold out we paid for a seaview room, both the castle and the see are visible from the balcony. At (late, around 10 pm) arrival we realised there was no extra bed for our son, we notified the reception, after they confirmed the situation, they offered a 4th floor room (I assume more expensive than our 2nd floor) until a new bed is placed. It was done the next day, they called us when it was finished, so we could quickly change rooms and pack out. At check-out we also had a minor issue about minibar consumption, which was also settled quickly and correctly. The sea at the hotel was cold for my taste, so I swam around an hour only, but there is a nice rock "island" near the shore, which is a good point to swim to. It was also quickly becoming deep, so non swimmers would not be able to go beyond some meters into the sea (but in my experience shallow waters are more of an exception). Water is clean, two beds and umbrella are included in the room price. Breakfast had the same items, but we didn't get bored of it in one week. We liked all of them, prosciutto, the different type of breads and brioches were my favourite. Dinner has to be pre-selected, either soup, pasta or risotto as first dish, a fish or other meat for second dish. Dessert is same for everyone (mainly different type of ice creams), side dishes were put onto a buffet. One day we had Sicilian specialties, on this day there were two starters and a main course, and cannoli as dessert, this was the best dinner of the week. Dinners were also very good, but if you are not into fish and eg. lamb (when the two selection were these) you have a harder time. Actually in most cases I was full with the starter and side dishes already. Rooms are big, nice, lamps were a bit dark in ours, but we always forgot about this in the morning, so we didn't raise it as an issue. AC was very well, but temperature could only be set in the main room, so in the bathroom it was always colder a bit. There is only a blanket and a bedsheet, no quilt. Changing the room temperature to 22C it caused no issue. And which was the best: the staff. Both reception and restaurant staff were kind and helpful. (As usually in Italy, the English of some of them was limited, but it was not too hard to understand each other.) And it is very nice if staff remembers your room number, your yesterday choices, the name of your son. Train is indeed at the back of the hotel, we saw it from the restaurant terrace, and heard in our room when we were awake. It never woke us up, so for us it was not an issue, but if someone needs a clearly silent neighbourhood, it may be an issue.…
pros: 1) nicely quite pebble beach with umbrellas and chairs 2) beach bar / cafe 3) quite location far away from crowdy places and discos cons: 1) beach service guaranteed only from mid-may to mid-september. after first storm umbrellas were deinstalled. management pointed "service agreement" and refused to reinstall umbrellas on request 2) "standard" rooms (bungalows) looks like 2* b&b: tiny rooms, no sunroof, ugly metal door could harm your hands, small & noisy a/c, no kettle / cups in room, no elevator. all photos on booking.com seems made in "superior" / "deluxe" rooms (only in "main" building) 3) caddish personnel. on my comment "this room does not look like 4*" i got "next time book 5* hotel" 4) poor breakfast. instant coffee / juice and one kind of cheese / salami. sliced tomato / cucumber as "salad bar". all photos on booking.com seems made on dinner / buffet…
Unfriendly and lazy staff at the beach. Unable to manage the deck chairs properly. Pool communication. Poor attention. Unfriendly. Service at the beach bar is better. Reasonabke food and drinks. Overall impression is poor.
If you want to relax, enjoy private beach and have a stay with class near Taormina this is the place for you. Staff is fantastic, cleaning absolutely top class, great balcony. Maybe more fruit at breakfast but that is no claim😊
