We stayed here for one night and had a decent experience. The good- amazing views from our balcony, spacious rooms, nice bathroom with bathtub. Breakfast buffet was decent. The bad- The dinner buffet was overpriced (not surprising) and underwhelming for the price you pay. Wifi only in common areas. Door to our room was squeaky so every time the wind...

Part of tour with OAT. Rooms are really nice- good beds- not enough lighting- beautiful views and sunsets! Very strong winds all night! Meals were good but overcrowded and the bar is woefully understaffed- painfully slow. Very close to the cloud forest.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at El Establo. This place has the potential to be amazing. Simple things will go a long way at this property and many of my points made will repeat other reviews below. I run a property management firm in Costa Rica, and tried to speak to the manager on site, but he...

Wonderful location, stunning views over the surrounding area, rooms lack privacy, very noisy, we have stayed in better hostels. Shuttle bus service available from rooms to restaurant and back, road is very, very steep. Restaurant is poor, quality of food is very poor, self service, tables not cleared very quickly. Supposed to be very green orientated, shame about the diesel...

A huge property on the mountain hill. Stunning views of the lowlands and the Gulf of Nucoya, but...We were in building 900 which is about 1 km uphill from reception . You need a minibus ( or your car) for every move, but their service is prompt. The rooms are huge but empty, with comfortable beds . The huge windows...

Built into a hillside, the hotel is certainly worth a visit. Our room had a small balcony, but the view was out over the lush countryside and we could see the Pacific in the distance. The layout is reflects the topography, and there were steep walks to and from the room and the dining area. I see that as a...

After reading a lot of the reviews and looking at the photos here, I wasn't looking forward to our stay here as part of a tour. I must say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the bedroom, light and roomy and quite comfortable. The bathroom was great too, with a walk-in shower and tub, though the...

My wife and I stayed in 'El Establo' or "The Stables" for two nights as part of our organised trip around Costa Rica in March 2017. This 'mountain' hotel development had clearly begun life at the bottom of the hill it is built on and originally as a farmhouse. The hotel development expanded over the years 'up' the hillside and...

The hotel is in a series of blocks, we were in block 500, which was convenient to the Laggus restaurant and bar. See separate review of Laggus, but its a tad upmarket. The bus drove us up to the room block, it must be 400 to 500 meters from the reception, but there were regular shuttle buses to take you...

Rooms are very basic but good with terribly dark bathrooms but lovely views. Oddly laid out hotel on a hillside means you're walking a lot. Very close to town so you have a nice choice of restaurants if you want to avoid eating at your hotel. ONE HUGE NEGATIVE. The website says Wi-Fi is included, but the rooms do not...
