Many years ago this spread out resort started as a Quaker ranch.. In the late 1990s they provided a dozen rooms and now it was grown to about 160 rooms. The hotel is set on a mountain and the rooms are terraced on the mountain side. We were on terrace level 7 of 8 levels. Our room had totally unobstructed...

Definitely take in breakfast at Las Riendas! It was lovely and there are lots of options for picky eaters. Our room itself was average. The toilets vent to a common hallway, which is strange (and occasionally smelly). But out of your window is a five-star view! We would stay here again.

On the Plus side: Huge room, nicely decorated, with rocking chairs. Incredible vista over Arenal lake (700 block). Comfortable bed. Great bathroom with shower enclosure and bath tub. Amenities onsite including shuttle bus service, 2 restaurants. Large breakfast buffet. Professional staff. On the OK side: No AC, which can be understood given the climate in Monteverde. I however wonder how...

The Establo Hotel is very unique . It spreads on a large area and the view is fantastic . The rooms are huge and the food is great . There are trips at night to explore the nature of the fog forests around the hotel. All staying in this hotel is rewarding experience .

This hotel is truly special. We stayed here for two nights travelling from the coast to La Fortuna. We wanted to do the zip line in Monteverde and stayed here. The views and scenery were amazing and has a very European feel. The rooms were very big. Even though it was like a lodge, the atmosphere was conductive to relaxation....

This is interesting hotel with nice size clean rooms in the rain forest. The biggest problem is lack of air conditioner. It can be cold, it can be hot – but it always humid there. You have nether AC or heating – so you and all clothes always wet. The other problem is size of property. It is huge. You...

we stayed here for two nights. There is a good shuttle service the hotel offers but we had our own car. It is pricey but the rooms had fantastic views. Our room (100-200) had a fantastic sunset view. Really gorgeous.the room is spacious. the resort itself is beautiful but their gourmet restaurant is not that good for vegetarians. Best part...

We stayed at El Establo for two nights during our tour of Costa Rica. Our room in the 800 Building was huge with two queen beds, large desk area and a rocking chair. Awesome view of the area and out to the bay when the clouds allow. Beds are on platform without springs but the pillows were good. The bathroom...

The VIEWS! Best, best sunsets! Very nice bathrooms with tub & separate shower. All temperature control in rooms is via windows. Great walk to town. Inexpensive taxis to get back. Super breakfast buffet. Nicely appointed rooms. Didn't find the bar, but others did! :)
