Large but cosy country pub in my favourite part of the world...the Lake District. Good food, efficiently prepared and presented. Lovely sincere welcoming staff. Welcoming warm fireplaces enable you to look at the shivering mountains through the windows

Took my daughter and her family for lunch as we were on the way back from Keswick. Arrived at 2.30pm, after the main lunch rush, ordered drinks, then had to find someone to take our order. This took 40 minutes to arrive, a few sandwiches and a salad which were nothing out of the ordinary, but were pricey. Said before... More

Called in for an evening meal having heard good reports. The food was the wrong side of average. There were three of us, we each had adifferent dish and were not impressed. A medium steak was cooked right through , but no sign of searing on the outside? Even the chips were poor. Sorry, won't be back.

Like a previous reviewer, we stayed at a nearby cottage with 2 dogs and enjoyed two meals at this pub. We popped in for a drink one afternoon with the dogs but didn't take them with us for the meals (although we could have done). The food was excellent (hot, tasty, good-sized portions for hungry eaters), and the staff were... More

Had an afternoon in the lakes and fancied going for some early dinner - trying to find somewhere that serves meals all day on a Tuesday isn't easy but we came across this one and the menu looked good. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly waiter who served us throughout. He was very polite and offered his... More

First weekend in September we was in the Lakes for a weekend away. We had brought our two big dogs with us and we was struggling to find somewhere that we would be comfortable taking the dogs inside to eat. Well I am glad we found the Horse & Farrier as I couldn't have asked for anything better. While parked... More

We booked the cottage for a family birthday weekend with our family in the area. We drove 200 miles to be told that we couldn't have it as the kitchen wasn't finished and it was very damp. We wanted to know why he hadn't called us before we left for our long journey. No offer of alternative accommodation. Gave us... More
