From here we arrive at the elegant Piazza della Repubblica with the inevitable ride on the carousel. From here we arrive at Piazza San Giovanni the most important religious square with the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore (visited inside) Baptistery of San Giovanni and Giotto s bell tower a masterpiece of Italian Gothic. From the square we take the most commercial street in Florence the pedestrian via dei calzaiuoli. We get to the pig market (with the inevitable coin made slips inside the grate. - NICHOLAS TDubai, United Arab Emirates11,081 contributionsWandering around the historical centre of Florence is like walking around an open air/ free museum. There are spectacular, beautiful buildings, statues, fountains and more everywhere you look. It does get extremely busy so it is worth getting up as early as you can to try and enjoy the sights with slightly less company.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2024
- Gonzalo JAndalucia, Spain12 contributionsMust-see city for art lovers, full of places of interest to enjoy for days; of course, better without heat because there are no trees in the center or enough public transport to move within it. There is a massive tourism and high prices to the point that you can not take one of the few taxis without nailing the customer charging for everything and the subsequent anger. I must also say that the streets were not scrubbed, all stained and that after paying 7 euros per person per day seems to me a nonsense.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 July 2024
- Massimiliano PNovara, Italy48,490 contributionsWithout considering the beauties preserved within the countless museums and churches, even those considered minor, the historic center of Florence offers emotions even just by walking around it and discovering its squares, architecture and overall atmosphere. Rich in monuments, it is no exception from a gastronomic point of view, in fact there are many excellent restaurants in which to taste typical local dishes but also numerous multi-ethnic venues. Apart from the climb to Piazzale Michelangelo, to enjoy the splendid view of the city and visit the nearby basilica of San Miniato, the rest of the main tourist attractions are easily reachable on foot and in a relatively short time. A historic center to be discovered in every corner.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2024
- MoiraMonza, Italy11 contributionsThanks to Antonio, we took a dip in the past and imagined the life first of the very young Leonardo and Michelangelo and then of the famous artists who became the symbol not only of Florence but of all Italy. It 'was a pleasant and smooth walk thanks to the sympathy of Antonio who managed to capture our attention. Recommended visitVisited March 2025Travelled with familyWritten 8 March 2025
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota8,543 contributionsThe Centro Storico or the Historical Center of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Florence is regarded as one of the centers of the Renaissance and the architecture and art that can be found when visiting the city is truly amazing. The Piazza del Duomo with the Florence Cathedral and Giotto's Bell Tower, the Piazza della Signori with the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Statue of David at the Accademia Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio are some of the highlights.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 January 2025
- David OGeneva, Switzerland5,164 contributionsThe historic center of Florence. We can see that the richest family in the world for five hundred years, the De Medicis family, lived in this city. For generations, they have invested a lot of money in this city. Architects and artists. They built great buildings and paid great artists. Now it has become an ultra-tourist city.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 November 2024
