Piazzale Michelangelo Hotels
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!

- Nina96 contributionsThe best view of FlorenceWhen visiting Florence, we also went to Piazzale Michelangelo and we definitely did not regret it. We went up there just before sunset and the view from the stairs was amazing! We bought a small bottle of wine in a shop in town and took it with us to the top. A lot of people were already sitting on the steps, and the whole thing was brightened up by music. You have to go there when you're in Pisa! πVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 February 2024
- ShadraBNottingham, United Kingdom530 contributionsWorth the EffortThis is a must if you're in Florence. The views are spectacular. The hike up can be difficult if you have mobility issues because there are many stairs and inclines, but there is a road that comes up behind Piazelle Michaelangelo, so you can drive (there is parking) or take a taxi up, and should you choose to walk it's an easier walk (still a climb, but no stairs and a flat surface on which to walk). We climbed up and took the back road down. The getting there takes longer than the being there, but there is no place in Florence with a better view of the city.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 March 2024
- Massimiliano PNovara, Italy47,284 contributionsPanoramic terrace overlooking FlorencePartly used as a car park and partly constantly occupied by stalls selling food and souvenirs for tourists, Piazzale Michelangelo is the best panoramic point to admire the historic center of Florence from above. The square is embellished by the bronze statue, a copy of David, and by a building similar to a loggia which houses a restaurant inside. This panoramic terrace can be reached by public transport or even on foot, however the climb is quite long and therefore also challenging. Arriving up here, with a ten minute walk, it is also possible to reach the suggestive Basilica of San Miniato al Monte. For tourists who stop in Florence for a few days it becomes almost an obligatory stop.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2024
- Kelly DColumbiana, Ohio460 contributionsWhat a view! This scenic viewpoint is amazing. It looks like a postcard. I came with friends. It is easy to get separated as there are a ton of people. There is plenty of parking and there are a few outside vendors. Watch for the pickpockets, but none of us in our group, experienced any trouble at all.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 March 2024
- roberto1,163 contributionsA panoramic point over FlorenceThe view from above is spectacular, an unmissable sight, it's really worth it even to visit San Miniato al Monte; as well as going up on foot, from the city center, you can use the city bus no. 12 with the possibility of paying the ticket on board, which costs 1.70 euros, exclusively with a contactless debit card. Bus timetables a little fluctuating.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2024
- ΞΞ―ΞΊΞΏΟ ΞRhodes, Greece2,892 contributionsUnbelievable view! The balcony of Florence! Go early before sunset to get a seat because it gets very crowded! You can easily go from the center on foot via mobile! Great route through the park! You have a view of the whole of Florence and if you succeed in time you will take wonderful photos! There are canteens around the square!Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 April 2024
- Maria FAmadora, Portugal144 contributionsRomantic FlorenceIncredible city full of monuments. It's a shame that you can't visit them all, on the one hand because of the time and on the other because of the cost. Even so, between those who pay (pre-purchased before going to avoid queues) and those who don't pay, in 4 days we visited twenty-odd monuments. It's a matter of getting everything planned. But it's incredible, the locals are very friendly and the food is wonderful. Too bad it went so quickly.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 April 2024
- JakubHavirov, Czech Republic1,056 contributionsMore distant square with a view of the cityWell, I was a bit unlucky that it was very cloudy and a little drizzling, so I didn't enjoy the view that much. In addition, the walk to the smaller hill didn't add much to it either. At the top of the square, a few stalls with some clothes, refreshments and souvenirs. I believe that in beautiful weather, the overall impression, i.e. the view of Florence, is certainly friendlier and far more varied than I had. Maybe sometime next time. However, I definitely recommend a visit, even if it is a little further from the center and it took me less than 40 minutes to walk.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 24 April 2024
- Jolie JGatineau, Canada325 contributionsBeautiful views but sunset overrated.Went early to watch the sunset from the steps and it was already quite busy. Lots of kids and young people. Lots of people smoking on the steps, which sucks for those who don't. Not sure why this is labeled as one of the best sunset spots - in January the sunset was not in the direction of the beautiful view of the dome - it was in the opposite direction. Still a nice and lively place to visit with beautiful views.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024
- Claudia D1,255 contributionsNice with stunning viewIf you can walk early in the morning the place will be just for you. 8:00am is a good time in May. A beautiful view of Florence and Arno River will appear from different places during your way up and down. You will avoid turists and all the stands selling souvenirs. The quiet square and the open view are a worth it thing to do in a ahort stay in Florence. After that you can walk to Palazzo Pitti and go down to cross Pontevecchio almost empty. A miracle!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 May 2024

- Santa Maria Novella HotelsSanta Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but donβt stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.Read more
- Duomo HotelsFlorentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giottoβs Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyoneβs childhood.Read more
- San Lorenzo HotelsSan Lorenzoβs lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.Read more
- Pitti HotelsPitti is a neighborhood characterized by art and history. Renaissance architecture such as Pitti Palace, which houses five museums alone, introduces visitors to the green lungs of spectacular Boboli Gardens. Any visitor can wander through statues, fountains, and panoramic viewpoints. Around the garden, treasures like the Museum of Natural History of the Specola and Villa Bardini guide guests through Florence as the cradle of the Renaissance. End the day with an aperitif in Piazza della Passera or the more romantic Forte di Belvedere, which offers an amazing panoramic view of the entire city.Read more
