- Deborah C3 contributions3 Teens and a MomMy three teens and I rented an Air BnB for a week in the Bairro Alto neighborhood. It was great location and I think we picked a perfect location. It’s walkable to many restaurants, sights, shops, and other Lisbon neighborhoods. Bairro Alto has a lot to offer and is a typical Lisbon neighborhood with cobblestone streets and hills, Portuguese cafes and restaurants mixed with American-style places.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 February 2024
- dpendgracsManitoba, Canada196 contributionsLove Lisbon’s Old TownWe really loved exploring Lisbon’s Old Town. The architecture and public art forms (old and new) are striking and make you feel like you’re walking through an outdoor art gallery. Public transport is abundant and cabs are reasonably priced, so no excuse in not getting out there to enjoy as much of it as you have time for.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 February 2024
- steve iNewbury, United Kingdom12 contributionsBest Seen On FootDon't queue for hours for a tram or tourist bus! Get out on foot and see Lisbon. The Metro is easy to navigate and ticket machines have English instructions. Second tip get out early for the main sites like the St George Castle which is a great walk up from Rossio. Bairo Alto won't disappoint for a classic insight into this wonderful old city. Again best seen on foot.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 March 2024
- John G2 contributionsGreat place, great staff. The joint was jumping on St Patrick’s night. Despite that, the staff really looked after us two oldies, first providing a seat, then grabbing us a table as soon as vacated. Only downside, they haven’t yet caught up with Guinness 0.0%.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 March 2024
- chrismary34Saint Just, France95 contributionsI remember the view from the belvederePopular area of Lisbon giving a magnificent view of the whole city!!! You can get lost in the alleys, take the tram or the typical funicular. There is life, street singers, restaurants, everything we love when we visit a cityVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 April 2024
- nick SLarissa, Greece150 contributionsVery nice neighborhood! One of the most beautiful and picturesque neighborhoods of Lisbon. We walked up the hill although there is a tram and lift! and we took him down to Rossio Square. Narrow streets, many bars, beautiful atmosphere and a very pleasant evening.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 April 2024
- abmilwMilwaukee, Wisconsin729 contributionsa nice walking area in Lisbon,, but try to walk down not up.One of the areas you want to visit. Maybe approach the area from the side (walk to it from a different area to get to the top), then walk down hill to visit/see this area. Walking straight up this area, seems very steep. Your reward is Time Out Market is at the bottom of the hill.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 May 2024
- Steve DDivonne-les-Bains, France847 contributionsBetter than Alfama.Such places need time to explore and find all the interesting aspects of such a place. It’s better walking down than up. Being a maze of options you need luck to find all it has to offer. We went there by number 28 Tram and once we had finished had quite a Challenge getting a taxi. Note it’s best visit here start of your day so you have some energy left.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 June 2024
- DeborahHuizen, The Netherlands47 contributionsA lovely atmosphereThis was our first time in Lissabon. We stayed in hotel Borges Chiado which is very central between Chiado and Alfama and the tram 28 E and the metro pass directly. But we have walked most of the time. We loved the atmosphere and the people! The narrow streets in Alfama going up and down are lovely and there are tiles everywhere and not only in the museu de azulejos though we visited this too and was really nice. There are many places with live music and lovely food in the many, many restaurants. The weather was okay, but not really warm enough to sit on a terrace.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024
- joseph c27 contributionsCharm and style in Bairro AltoBairro Alto offers excellent breathtaking views of Lisboan or Lisboa. Excellent picturesque place with a charming inside. The Miraduro of Sao Pedro de Alcantara is just excellent. Food is great as well and Bairro Alto has a lot of hidden gems. Alongside with Chiado, Bairro Alto has the upper hand in prices and styles. We visited Lisboa entirely, 100% on sightseen trips and 95% on foot. Bairro Alto was one ogf my favorite places. miss LisboaVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 June 2024

- Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores HotelsA pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!Read more
- Chiado & Carmo HotelsThe traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.Read more

- Parque das Nações HotelsThis neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Nações is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.Read more

- Belém HotelsBelém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.Read more
- Graça & São Vicente HotelsYou can be thankful that most common travel guides don't mention Graça and São Vicente that often. Part of Lisbon's historic center and "Old Town", they feel like independent villages in the capital's center, and more untouched than Alfama. Amazing views, restaurants and parks, as well as important monuments like the S. Vicente Church and the National Pantheon, make this a spectacular option for those looking for a more tranquil walk-around in the center of Lisbon. Graça has been the choice of many younger people over the past years, both nationals and expats, given the cozy feeling of the neighborhood and its hidden secrets.Read more
- Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria HotelsExplore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.Read more
