Parque das Naçáes Hotels
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Naçáes you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Naçáes is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.

- HolidaymakerfromHoveBrighton and Hove, United Kingdom2,897 contributionsParque das Naçáesβ¦β¦β¦β¦β¦We caught the bus to the park on a Sunday in March. We enjoyed walking around see the public art, the aquarium, cable cars etc. 40 mins on the local bus on the banks of the Tegus river. We were there quite early at 10.30 am and it seemed very quiet until about 11.30. The cable car opened at 11 but no riders at that time. We enjoyed the shopping centre and had lunch in the upmarket food court. We ate at Nood which was really good. We sat in a large balcony in the sun enjoying the view over the park. I can imagine that this place is amazing when there is an event on. Lots of entertainment spaces. We enjoyed our time here although it was very quiet. Lots of restaurants in addition to the mall food options. Go if you have time.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2024
- Pietro JToronto, Canada367 contributionsPeacefull area away from downtownNorth east of downtown but easy to get to on the subway. A newly developed area with the waterfront area an attractive area for walks on the edge of the bay with marinas, houseboats, the aquarium, parks, restos, cafes, bars and a view of the bridge to the other side of the bay. A collection of restos set back from the bay ....brazilian, sushi, seafood, burgers, vegetarian, mcdonalds, pizza. Interresting architecture in the area with statues, sculptures and mobiles. A couple of blocks inland are hotels, restos, bars etc.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 April 2024
- claudio dViterbo, Italy44,483 contributionsWorth more than one visitFar from the center but you can get there comfortably by metro, getting off at Oriente station: the latter, together with the connected Vasco da Gama shopping centre, already constitutes a preview of the modern architecture of the Parco delle Nazioni, created in 1998 to accommodate the Expo, on the area on the banks of the Tagus (very large here) which once housed the river port. Today it is a sort of city of the future with hotels, restaurants, offices, exhibition pavilions, private homes, museums (including the oceanarium), a cable car, a casino, a theatre, promenades and then gardens and generally lots of greenery. The area along the Tagus extends for about 5 km but the interesting part for a visitor, practically entirely pedestrianised, can be reduced to less than 3 km, from the Jardins da Agua to the Vasco da Gama bridge. Obviously it's a matter of taste, but for us it's one of the most beautiful parts of the city and obviously it takes time to see it all: we dedicated an afternoon to it, from 3pm to 8pm, without visiting any museum/attraction internally (with the exception of the gondola lift), and without ever stopping, not even to drink/eat something. But apart from visiting it for the first time, or visiting individual attractions such as the aforementioned Oceanarium, or to see impromptu exhibitions or shows, it is a place to return to several times, for relaxing walks along the Tagus, or in the green areas, or to take something in the various clubs or to shop in the beautiful Vasco da Gama shopping center.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2024
- Kathy VRoeselare, Belgium640 contributionsModern architecture with pizzazzCompletely the opposite of what we saw so far in Lisbon. A very modern neighborhood with buildings in beautiful architecture. The buildings certainly have pizzazz, but the squares lack some character and atmosphere. The mega large recycled cat is beautiful!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 May 2024
- Giorgio CTurin, Italy209 contributionsNice walk in all modern neighborhoodLisbon is not only past and museums but also modernity. This neighborhood was built and redeveloped for Expo 1998 and (amazing!) is still alive and well today. Thanks also to the railway station (the work of the architect Calatrava and the commercial counter Vasco da Gama) but not only because the neighborhood is residential with services and what remains of the xpo that mostly (I would say almost everything) has been reused. There is also a marina and a concert stadium, which are also active.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 July 2024
- ChloΓ© BDijon, France407 contributionsModern neighbourhoodIf you donβt stay long in Lisbon, this isnβt necessarily the area to visit first. On the other hand, if you have time it can be interesting to go. Magnificent station oriente, small shopping center, flag aisle, gondola and especially the oceanarium!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 September 2024
- Robin W. FoodCroatia471 contributionsUnnamed HeroesParque das Naçáes is a modern district, developed through the urbanization of a former industrial area. Of all the architectural, urban, and sculptural achievements, I was particularly impressed by the Pavilion of Portugal, a work by the Portuguese architect Γlvaro Siza Vieira. However, I was even more struck by three unnamed workers βclingingβ high above to the rooftop of a skyscraper, whose contrast with their surroundings prompts reflection on social stratification. Who are they and where do they come from?Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 October 2024

- Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores HotelsA pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous MarquΓͺs de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Γurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent PraΓ§a do ComΓ©rcio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to BelΓ©m, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!Read more
- Bairro Alto, Bica & Cais do SodrΓ© HotelsEnjoy a cocktail, discover a jazz club, hit the dance floor or simply grab a beer and catch up with your friends in the street: Bairro Alto, Bica and Cais do SodrΓ© are the core of it all. Amazing rooftops, restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, museums and theaters abound. Start off by admiring the river from the Santa Catarina belvedere, have a cocktail at PARK's rooftop bar, try a typical Portuguese steak, or the fresh grilled fish, at PrΓncipe do Calhariz, and later explore the dozens of streets full of bars and clubs! Whether you're visiting for a day or a whole week, make sure you visit Bairro Alto and its surroundings.Read more
- Chiado & Carmo HotelsThe traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.Read more

- BelΓ©m HotelsBelΓ©m is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (JerΓ³nimos Monastery, BelΓ©m Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de BelΓ©m) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. BelΓ©m also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "PastΓ©is de BelΓ©m" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, BelΓ©m is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.Read more
- Graça & São Vicente HotelsYou can be thankful that most common travel guides don't mention Graça and São Vicente that often. Part of Lisbon's historic center and "Old Town", they feel like independent villages in the capital's center, and more untouched than Alfama. Amazing views, restaurants and parks, as well as important monuments like the S. Vicente Church and the National Pantheon, make this a spectacular option for those looking for a more tranquil walk-around in the center of Lisbon. Graça has been the choice of many younger people over the past years, both nationals and expats, given the cozy feeling of the neighborhood and its hidden secrets.Read more
- Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria HotelsExplore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.Read more
