Farringford is now CLOSED until spring 2023. House tours will re open 2nd May T/W/T until 28th September 2023. The gardens will re open 4th April T/W/T/F/S until 28th October 2023. Please see website for confirmed opening times. The exhibition on the recent restoration is included in the price of entry for both the house and the gardens. RHS members may enter the gardens on Wednesday and Thursdays. From 1853 until his death in 1892, Farringford was the main home of the renowned Victorian poet Alfred,Lord Tennyson. In this secluded spot on the Isle of Wight, the new Poet Laureate and his family sought a retreat from the clamour of London life. But while Farringford provided a tranquil domestic haven, it also attracted many of Tennyson's eminent friends, becoming a focus of intellectual and artistic activity.
