Wharram Percy is one of the largest and best preserved of Britain's 3,000 or so known deserted medieval villages. It is also undoubtedly the most famous. For over 60 years, archaeologists have pioneered new techniques here to understand what life was like in the village and why it was eventually deserted. Perched on the side of a remote and beautiful valley in the Yorkshire Wolds, the village was continuously occupied for six centuries before it was abandoned soon after 1500. Today you can trace the outlines of many lost houses on a grassy plateau above the substantial remains of the church and the millpond. It is a long walk (about ¾ mile) from the car park to the site, parts of which are steep and muddy. The site contains rugged terrain which can be challenging, and it is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. The surrounding land is private. There is no vehicular access. Car parking is available near the site with a £2 charge for non-members
Founded in 1100, this historic church lies within the quiet parish of Old Malton and serves as a magnificent example of 12th century Romanesque architecture. St Mary's is the only surviving church of the Gilbertine Order that is still used for regular worship in England, and is a grade 1 listed building.
Thrussendale Farm is a destination. Set amidst some of the most outstandingly beautiful scenery on the edge of the Wolds in North Yorkshire. It's a pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull breeding farm, somewhere for Corporate business to escape to for Executive and Senior Management Meetings, somewhere different. Somewhere with 'Wow' factor, a place to turn ideas into reality, to motivate and energise your teams and somewhere to relax and have fun afterwards. It's a magical destination that never fails to capture the heart and fill the senses with inspiration. No ordinary place to pitch your tent or park your home on wheels - but somewhere to stay inside nature and to be totally surrounded by it. You might not even see another visitor throughout your stay.
