Drifting serenely in the Gulf of Thailand, the palm-fringed island of Ko Tao takes its name from the abundant sea turtles that reside on its shores. White sand beaches sheltered by steep hills – some only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles – and 300 days of sun per year invite long afternoons of lounging.

People visit Surat Thani because it's the gateway to so much of Thailand's beauty, especially its Gulf Coast islands. Breathe deep in Genting Highlands where, unlike nearby Kuala Lumpur, the air is fresh and clean. Aside from its resort life, visitors flock to hill station to enjoy cooler temperatures, mountain scenery, strawberry farms, and a relatively undisturbed, natural rain forest.

Singapore is known as a bustling metropolis that also happens to be one of the cleanest and safest cities of its size in the world. Where else can you find an azalea-framed volcano to climb, a sisterhood of deep-divers, and ancient stone statues on which to make wishes? Jeju Island. A favourite with newlyweds (and K-drama fans), this popular retreat is also home to miles of golden beaches, winding coastal trails, and Jeju Waterworld, the area’s largest water park. No matter what your fancy, one thing is for certain: a day of sightseeing isn’t complete without enjoying some of the isle’s delicious raw seafood and famed barbecued black pork.

On the south side of Jeju Island, Seogwipo offers swanky hotels, rugged cliffs, popular beaches and gorgeous waterfalls. The volcanic-rock cliffs located around Jungmun beach are a wonder. Make sure to visit the viewing platform to take in the spectacular vistas. A coastal city, Seogwipo's many activities revolve around the ocean, including diving and submarine tours. Many of the restaurants specialize in fresh, local seafood. There's also much to see and do inland, including temples, art museums, amusement parks and botanical gardens.

A coastal resort complete with hot springs, Atami has been a favorite vacation spot for Tokyoites dating back to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Though the city's main draws are its beach boardwalk and spas, visitors can take in some history staying in early 20th-century private villas converted to inns and catching the afternoon Geisha dance performance at Geigi Kenban.
