A horse-drawn carriage ride around the cobblestone streets and grand buildings of Vieux-Montréal will give you a taste of European flavour. The Basilique Notre-Dame is a confection of stained glass, and the Plateau Mont-Royal district will delight you with its quaint boutiques and cafés. Dig in to a massive plate of poutine to fuel up for a tour of the epic Olympic Park.

Any city that can be the butt of a Simpson's joke ("That's it! We're all going back to Winnipeg!") and simultaneously one of the most vibrant cultural centres in Canada is tops in our book. The city's history of isolation and self-sufficiency means that Winnipeggers are unpretentious and sincere (and fun-loving enough to name Homer an honourary citizen). Though the winters are long and cold, there are plenty of indoor activities to both keep you warm and stimulate your imagination.

Basking in its 300 days of sunshine, Lake Tahoe is a haven for outdoor fun in every season. Swimming, kayaking and windsurfing are popular in the summer months, while epic snowfall makes for spectacular skiing in winter. For those who prefer indoor fun, there's plenty of that in Tahoe, too. Those looking to kick things up a notch can sail on Lake Grey or hike towards the horn-shaped peaks of the Mirador Cuernos.

Corsica is a laid-back French island, with a breezy vibe that’s part European weekend and part tropical honeymoon. The port city of Bastia flings its arms wide open to weary travelers disembarking from a long ferry trip. For a truly charming Corsican experience, catch a train through the mountains to the beach, passing by rustic villages and grazing cows along the way. Check out Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio, which offer great views, historic churches, and water-based activities such as ferries and passenger-only boats.
