The southern Italian region of Puglia is symbolized by its white-tipped, cone-shaped trulli houses—and Alberobello, where more than a thousand UNESCO-listed trulli can be found, is the perfect place to discover them.

The capital of Puglia and one of southern Italy’s most prominent cities, Bari combines seaside charm and historical appeal. A major Mediterranean cruise port, the university city is also known for its old town, which boasts churches, picturesque courtyards, and other tucked-away gems.

Visitors have flocked to Abano Terme to soak in its thermal waters for more than 2,000 years. Situated on the outskirts of Padua, on the edge of the verdant Euganean Hills, the spa town is still popular among wellness seekers today.

The Mediterranean town of Argeles-sur-Mer is proud of its Catalonian roots, and the Catalan influence has left its mark on everything from architecture to local cuisine. The lively harbour, long sandy beach, and tree-lined walkways are even more idyllic against a backdrop of the Pyrenees.

Cambrils has a well-deserved reputation as the culinary capital of the Costa Dorada. There is a veritable cornucopia of fresh local ingredients, ranging from fish and other seafood to the internationally acclaimed DO Siurana olive oil. A stepping stone into northern Spain, Valladolid blends medieval architecture with universities, modern museums, and vibrant nightlife. The city boasts a strong cultural identy on par with the country's larger metropolises, while outlying vineyards retain a touch of rural tradition.

Known as the City of Temples and a beacon of culture, Varanasi has produced many renowned writers. It’s also a centre of silk weaving, so practise haggling at the chaotic bazaar for some beautiful souvenirs. Rickshaws are the best way to get about.
