    Afternoon tour
Thank you Charlotte for our tour around the prison. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend visiting. We both found it very interesting and I liked that you didn’t mind me asking you a few extra questions. It is obvious to us that really enjoy your job and take pride in sharing your extensive knowledge of the prison.
Good Afternoon, Maxine, We are pleased that Officer Charlotte was able to make your day a memorable one and answer the additional questions that you had. Our officers wealth of knowledge holds so much value and they are what makes our prison experience so special. We hope to welcome you back for a day behind bars again soon. Perhaps next time you could brave a tour in the dark by joining onto a Ghost Tour. It is an experience like no other! Many thanks

A must visit when in Shrewsbury!!
Fantastic guided tour at the Prison, shout out to our tour guide Graham who was an ex-prison officer at there. Graham was wonderful, insightful and had a great sense of humour. All the staff were very friendly. Already recommended to friends and family
Good afternoon Expedition797295, Thank you for your review, we appreciate your time and your support. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Graham, his years of service certainly show when giving a walking, talking tour of the prison! What an amazing day. First we beat the hole escape room which was difficult. Second was a guided tour with Graham who I could've listened too all day. Last but not least was the great escape which we did in 2hrs 14mins. Would recommend to all.
Wow, what an amazing day indeed! Congratulations on conquering The Hole escape room and completing the Guided Tour with Graham. We're thrilled that you enjoyed his captivating narration—we'll be sure to pass on your compliments! Thank you for recommending our experiences to others, and we look forward to your next visit for more adventures perhaps you could join us for a Ghost Tour to explore after dark!

An amazing experience to see the inside
Visited a few years ago (well before 2023, I think it had only recently been opened for visits/tours at the time). A wonderful experience with guided tour led by a former prison officer. Person I was with thought I'd be locked in because unfortunately very little time after tour and I wanted to go round on my own. Very pleased to know it's still open for visits as I'd heard it was being converted (into a hotel?). I shall definitely try to get back for another visit.
Good afternoon drn123456789101112, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're delighted to see that after all this time, your first impression of our Guided Tour has remained with you. As such, our Tours have since received many make-overs, with many more experiences since being introduced. If you would consider retuning in the near future, be sure to check out our website for what we have to offer. Kind regards, - Jade

An Unforgettable Escape: Shrewsbury Prison's Adventure
My visit to the live escape event at Shrewsbury Prison was a wonderful experience. We traveled all the way from Germany with high expectations, and they were completely met. I was especially impressed by how attentive and understanding the staff were towards us as non-native English speakers. They made sure we understood everything, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The game itself was well thought out, offering just the right mix of challenge and fun. I would definitely recommend this event, especially if you're looking for a unique activity that's worth traveling at any age.

    Prison Guided Tour
Excellent visit. Guided tour by Mick (ex prison officer) was informative and entertaining. If he hadn't been a prison officer he should surely have been a stand up comedian. Well worth paying for the guided tour rather than just finding your own way round (also I can recommend the cafe bacon sandwich).
Good morning Journey26321149941, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're thrilled to hear that you have thoroughly enjoyed your experience on the Guided Tour with Mick, he certainly has a knack for keeping the group entertained whilst delivering a very informative tour. We will be sure to pass along your praises as he should be proud! In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get back in touch. Kind regards, - Jade

    Outstanding trip and guide
A group of 20 of us went on a guided tour of the prison in Shrewsbury. Our guide was Michael who was outstanding. Michael gave us a history of the prison from the Georgian era to 1990's when the prison closed. He also talked about the social history of prisons and was extremely informative. He had plenty of anecdotes, some humorous and some very sad. All of our group thought the trip was excellent and that Michael was exceptional. Brilliant
Good morning Shropgirl2, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a thoughtful review. We delighted to hear that you have had a wonderful experience on the Guided Tour with Michael, he certainly is passionate about History and he always makes it memorable. We will be sure to pass along your praises as he should be proud. In the future, if you consider returning for more, we have plenty more opportunities for you to explore. Kind regards, - Jade

A Night Behind Bars, totally brilliant!!
Last night, 21st June 2024, was certainly a very night. My sister, Wendy and I had a fabulous time. Paul, our Tour Guide, Barry and Sharon, his accomplices were so knowledgeable of the prison's history and delivered their knowledge with humour. Every member of staff last night couldn't do enough for us, for which we thank you. The whole experience of stopping in an historical, haunted jail overnight, is one you should try. It so much fun.
Good Afternoon lindaa346 Thank you so much for leaving us feedback today it is always appreciated. We are delighted that you enjoyed your night behind bars experience all the staff are very passionate and aim to deliver a great experience to all visitors to Shrewsbury Prison. We do hope that you come back again and perhaps do some of our daytime experiences like the guided tour or escape rooms. A warm welcome awaits you when you next return behind bars .Regards Sharon

Great experience but eat before you go
We did the Night Behind Bars experience, which was mostly excellent. The welcome and initial briefing were very well designed and we had plenty of time to set up inour assigned cells for the night. We had a poor experience in the restaurant, all of the tables were taken and we struggled to find seats. We tried to order drinks to take elsewhere to sit but because one of our group had ordered alcohol, we had to stay in the restaurant area. If we had been told beforehand that only hot & soft drinks could be taken out, we would have changed our order. We ordered a coffee which was delivered as tea, and when we queried this the young lady was adamant that we had ordered tea and had a "what do you want me to do about it" attitude. She begrudgingly agreed to change it for coffee, and then finally checked the ticket again and offered a muttered apology that it was in fact her error and we had ordered coffee. Our group had to split up to find seats and we heard many stories from our table mates about cold / missing food and incorrectly read tickets. I felt that there were too many people to be served in such a short time and I was glad that we ate before going to the Prison. I think you need either fewer people, more tables and/or more (and friendlier) staff. From the restaurant we then went on our guided tour with the amazing Michael, which we found excellent. He was both interesting and amusing and we learnt a lot that we didn't know, despite having been to the prison before. I can not fault this part of the experience. It was good to have the freedom to explore the prison independently after the tour, and the free tea & coffee was very welcome. The majority of our inmates settled for the night around 01:30 as we did, and save for a few inconsiderately noisy individuals shouting and shining torches into our cells, we got a good few hours rest. The included breakfast rolls were nice and I was grateful that you had included a vegetarian option. In short, it was a great experience and I would recommend it - but consider eating at one of the lovely pubs in the town beforehand as once you are in the prison you are at the mercy of the overwhelmed restaurant.
Good Afternoon 503aggyl Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback of your recent visit, it is always appreciated and allows us to grow and develop further as an attraction. We will pass on your feedback to our teams regarding your experience in the restaurant and see if this is something that can be reviewed and improved upon in the future. We are delighted that you enjoyed your tour with Michael he genuinely is a font of knowledge isn't he. I do hope that you consider coming back again and doing more of our experiences and a warm welcome awaits you. Regards Sharon

  • St Mary's Church Hotels
The spire of St Mary's is one of the tallest in England and for over 500 years it has dominated the skyline of Shrewsbury's old town. In 1739, showman Robert Cadman attempted to slide from it, head first, using a rope and a grooved breastplate. His engraved obituary stands outside the west door. The church is now the only complete Medieval church in Shrewsbury. It dates from Saxon times and has beautiful additions from the 12th-century onwards. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful with the soaring stone arches giving way to the church's great treasure - its stained glass. There are panels in glorious colour including the world-famous 14th-century 'Jesse window' filled with figures of Old Testament kings and prophets. No other church in the country has a collection to equal it. The Café at St Mary's Church, Shrewsbury, run by the Battlefield 1403 farm shop and deli, is now open Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm.
