Very interesting place ... and our tour guide made it more so.
Our guide was very good, kept things moving, with lots of info and good sense of humor. From the looks of the outer walls, I expected an old fortress (like those in France). But, no. The place was owned until recently by an insanely wealthy family, and they had the inside all refurbished with beautiful woodwork, windows, decorations, etc. It was used as an air raid shelter during WWII, so there is "recent" history to learn about, too.

    View from a castle
On our initial visit to Cardiff, saw the click tower from the transport. Had to visit and very happy we did. A walk through the historical rooms and walls of the castle make for a memorable experience. The view from the keep, outstanding. Would point out though to reach the top it is quite a vertical climb on ancient stairs. If visiting Cardiff, it's a must see.

A castle that is well worth a visit
A castle that is well worth a visit. The military museum is also excellent with lots of information shown in an interesting way. The manor house is amazing and so beautiful, and the views from the top of the castle over the city are well worth the climb.

    Fun castle to visit
This was a fun castle to visit. It's reasonably intact, although extensively altered throughout its many years. I especially enjoyed walking the wall walk and climbing up into the Norman Keep and also climbing to the top of its gate. The mansion is also nice. Of note: once you start the wall walk or the WW II bomb shelter tunnel walk, you have to complete it. It starts at one of the front corners and finishes at the back corner by the keep. It was a worthwhile visit.

    Worth a visit
Interesting place to visit with 2000 years of history. The Manor House is impressive but make sure to go down to the basement under the ticket sales to get the full story of how Britain's most wealthy man got the funds to finance the restoration. It would be intersection to also share the story of the miners who created his wealth and the contrast in lifestyle. Not much is left from the Romans but there is a bit and it show it has been a place if importance since almost forever

Beautiful interiors and museum in an interesting castle.
We visited Cardiff Castle on a sunny Monday and booked the additional guided tour to the house for £11. The tour includes the rooms that are open to all visitors, but also the Winter Smoking Room (very impressive), the nursery, Lord Bute’s Bedroom and the Roof Garden (also very nice). We first visited the military museum, which was interesting, and saw the Roman parts of the wall of the castle, which had been a Roman fort before the Normans used the remains of the walls as additional protection for their keep. After the tour and lunch, we visited the keep, the WW2 bomb shelter display in the walls and walked around the battlements before going on to seeing other things. In total, we spent just over three hours in the castle, including about half an hour for lunch and had an excellent time.

    Wow!
This is a must to visit if you have time when you are in Cardiff. The 11the century keep affords great views across the city and the original Roman wall remains are fascinating...but above all, the stunning neo-Gothic decoration in the main residence is utterly amazing! Do not miss this!

    Explore and admire!
From outside Cardiff Castle walls you’d never guess there was so much to see. While they’re currently setting up an Xmas market which rather mars the sweeping views it does still merit half a day. It’s worth the admission cost, and I wish we’d paid extra for the guided tour because there’s even more to see with that.

    Stunning and value for money
What a splendid castle, we did the tour so we could see the extra rooms. The tour is an additional £4, but you get to visit the roof terrace (which is the reason we did it), but also the children’s nursery - which is by far my favourite room, plus Bute’s bedroom and bathroom. Our tour guide was amazing too, the history mixed with a little humour, it was just a great experience all round.

    Amazing!
Two tourists in Wales! Our first time in Wales and we spent a few days in Cardiff so l had to check out the castle.we visited on Saturday morning and paid for the first house tour of the day! It was so worth it, our tour guide was so knowledgeable and could answer any questions we had, and we had quite a few!! He made us feel very welcome and overall made the visit to the castle a very pleasant experience. What a great start for our Christmas holidays.
