- John HicksOld Basing, United Kingdom77 contributionsThe jewel in the Welsh crown!A fascinating opportunity to see life for ordinary people in Wales over the centuries, all in one place. The beautiful views as you amble along the fern, bush and tree-lined pathways make this a wonderful walk through woodland. The buildings across the generations are so interesting and the helpful, friendly, stewards add insights to stimulate the imagination. And it’s free! You just pay for parking and, if you make a time, spend me wonderful home cooked food in the friendly cafe. This was a wonderful morning out. We learned much, saw interesting buildings and artefacts and enjoyed a walk in the beautiful countrysideVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 October 2023
- Anna BSydney, Australia2 contributionsA magical experienceI grew up near St Fagan’s and went there as a child many times. I immigrated to Australia many years ago and when I come back to visit family I take my kids to St Fagan’s. The museum has different activities on all the time which makes the experience fresh every time we go. This visit we decided to have lunch there before we walked around, I can strongly recommend the lamb cawl, it was so good. The staff in the canteen were very helpful as my daughter is coeliac and they accommodated her no problem. The experience of walking around is just wonderful. You get such a feeling of how it was to live in different ages. There are guides in each dwelling who give you information on that dwelling. I’ll always come back to St Fagan’s, It’s a truly magical place.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023
- bun 🐇Orlando, Florida91 contributionsskip the food. everything else is perfect!such a gorgeous, picturesque location. a very interesting and unique museum. great spot for taking photos and walking around. plenty of gift shops and things to do and see. however, i'd pack a lunch or eat before because the food here is seriously lacking. i went to both the cafe in the lobby and the fish and chips spot and both were not so great. also the person working at the cafe had serious attitude and was rude. but on the whole, i'd recommend this location. i had a great time!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023
- Seaside393011977543 contributionsBest museum in WalesDefinitely the best museum in Wales. I have been here several times and it never fails to impress, and I am always mind blown at how the buildings have been painstaking moved to the museums beautiful grounds. If you love interactive museums this is definitely the place to visit, great for all the family and dogs too!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 October 2023
- Toni H19 contributionsAmazingly kind staff and a museum that is breathtakingly beautiful. A must see!We visited at fagans today on Halloween. Unfortunately during our journey my grandson became car sick and had vomited all over his trousers. We cleaned him up as best we could in the car park. He just wanted to be out of the car. We went to the main entrance help desk to ask if possibly any of the shops inside sold clothing to change him. They didn’t sell trousers but the ladies on the desk immediately sprang into action trying to get us some trousers in lost clothing. Unfortunately there was nothing to fit my tiny grandson but they were more than kind, considerate and nothing short of amazing. Later as we passed one of the ladies again she asked after my grandson. Was he ok now? He was and much better for being in the fresh air. Aside from the initial issue we had a lovely day in what is honestly one of my favourite places to visit in Wales. The history. The heritage. The painstaking work that has gone into this museum is breathtaking. I could go on and on about how great this place is but today I wanted to thank the two very kind ladies that did their upmost to help a little boy with kindness and compassion. Thank you ladiesVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 October 2023
- Stephen BGorefield, United Kingdom8 contributionsAn amazing day outLovely day out if you are interested in historical buildings, some great buildings, in a great location. It is amazing that they have moved them from original locations to the one site, in addition there are photos of the buildings in their original locations. The staff were amazingly friendly and knowledgeable about each structure. Two words of warning first it is a lot of walking - but it is easy walking and second we saw a post that you can do it in three hours we were there for five and still had not done it all. We travelled across the country as part of a family meet up but we will be going again just to finish the site it is well worth the travel.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 November 2023
- Linda P4 contributionsGreat open air museumWonderful museum. Not a recreation, they actually took the historic buildings from around the countryside apart brick by brick and reassembled them at the site. Well put together with a lovely park to walk thru, active exhibitions (although some were not due to the time of year). Very educational and enjoyable. Would highly recommend with or without kids. (also has a play area for kids, which we did not have with us). Very enjoyable want to spend 1/2 or more of the day.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 November 2023
- John S4 contributionsSpectacular, considering it is freeTruly beautiful place with phenomenal volunteering staff. It's a shame that the pub is not opened yet, but will certainly be back once it is to have that genuine traditional experience. The volunteers all seem interested in what they do, and take a genuine interest in visitors. I cannot believe it is free to visit.Visited December 2023Written 10 December 2023
- AlexanderlasCardiff, United Kingdom1 contributionSo nice museumThe museum is very wonderful. And it wasn't just entertainment, they actually took historic buildings from all over the countryside apart brick by brick and reassembled them on site. It is well laid out with a lovely garden to walk through and active exhibits although some were not due to the time of year. Very educational and fun. Highly recommend with or without children. It also has a children's play area, which we didn't have. Very enjoyable would like to spend half a day or more. We will be back soonVisited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 14 February 2024
- Amelia A16 contributionsLovely atmosphereVery interesting place, full of history, it's amazing to see ye olde buildings from many years ago. I thought the food was just a little pricy, I paid £15+ for just 3 sandwiches. Definitely go again , best time is around spring time when the gardens start bloomingVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 February 2024
