One of the Belem attractions with the best view of the bridge
If you are in Belem and have already visited the Belem Tower, suggest you walk along the river to this monument devoted to Portugals explorers. There’s a better view to the bridge from here and also quite an interesting little square with a map showing all the Portuguese colonial prowess of the past. You can finish exploring the area by visiting the Jeronimos monastery or at least admire its architecture which we did as it was closed for a day.

    Imposing
Truly impressive monument dedicated to the discoveries and in particular to the geographical ones that occurred in the 15th and 16th centuries. The characters represented on the two sides of the monument (which has the shape of the bow of a caravel) are numerous (for example Magellan, Bartolomeu Dias, Vasco da Gama...). The monument is located in the Belem neighborhood, near the Belem tower, along the banks of the Tagus. It is absolutely worth spending some time photographing and admiring it while visiting the pedestrian area.

    Amazing view
Very beautiful externally and worth admiring. The climb to the terrace costs €10, €8.30 with the Lisboa card, via a narrow, narrow staircase or with a comfortable lift. The view from the terrace is beautiful but honestly I think it's a little too expensive.

    Worth a Visit
It's easy to get to and free to see. Take any bus or train to Belem and cross the street. It's down the street from Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. On both sides of the monument are carvings of the great explorers of the 16th Century and one woman who was not one of them. She was the mother of Henrique o Infante, who was Prince Henry the Explorer.

    Monument to Explorers
This was one our favorite spots to see while visiting the Belem area. It was shaped like part of a ship’s bow with statues lining up behind King Henry the Navigator. We only walked around the monument and relied upon the Rick Steves book to help us figure out who all were immortalized here. It was predominantly men but the lone female was the mother of King Henry. The huge mosaic square behind the monument was impressive. It was a gift from South Africa and included a huge compass surrounding a map of the world tracing Portuguese sailings. I guess if we entered the monument then we could’ve seen it in its entirety but being up close showed all its details.

    Tribute to Portuguese sailors
Beautiful monument, free with the Lisboa card. From above you can enjoy a 360° view of the river, the Belém district and the square below with the mosaic of the world and the compass rose. You can go up either on foot or by lift. Advised.

    Great spot in Belem
This monument, built to celebrate (brag) about the many explorers that Portugal had, is one of the many sights to see in Belem. This one has the option to go to the top but we did not as the line was long and it was very windy. Nice spot to take pictures.

    Visiting Lisbon
It's worth it for the view of the river and the 25 de Abril bridge, but there's nothing more to it than that. There could be something to talk about the history of the monument, for example. There are some stairs to the top (around 240), however there is an elevator for those who have difficulty.

Monument to the courage and former greatness of the Portuguese
After walking along the embankment from the Belem Tower, we came to this majestic monument. Against the backdrop of the blue sky and the Tagus it looks monumental. There is a beautiful panel on the square in front of it, best viewed from the viewing platform at the top of the monument. It turned out that admission is free with a Lisbon card, so we happily took the high-speed elevator to the top. Views of the river, bridge and statue of Christ and the entire area with the monastery and stadium. There was no queue - everyone was standing in a crowd in Jeronimos. We were very pleased with the sights in Lisbon, where there are no crowds or queues. Would I pay 10 euros without a Lisbon card? I am not sure. But if you have this option, be sure to go up - the bridge, landing planes and beautiful views are worth spending 30 minutes of time on. There is also a free toilet and drinks machines.

Tribute to the greatness of Portugal in the past
Both Portugal and Spain once dominated the world centuries ago. This 1960 monument pays homage to that period, when Portuguese navigators left Portugal to explore the world. The period of great navigations. The pattern of discoveries is quite photogenic, it is close to the Jerónimos monastery and the Belém tower and a visit by a well-informed tourist is essential.
