No visit to Bangkok is complete without a visit to the Grand Palace. The whole complex is absolutely beautiful with a range of different sections to visit. The Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles which is located at the Ratsadakhorn-Bhibhathana Building inside the palace complex and holds beautiful outfits worn by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit along with very informative section about the different materials, designs with interactive areas too. The staff there are very pleasant and spend a long time sharing their knowledge with our children who asked questions. The temple of the emerald buddha is beautiful and jaw dropping to think that it was carved from one piece of jade. The reclining buddha is equally as impressive if a little busy. The ticket price of 500bht also includes a trip to the theatre to enjoy some cultural dance. There is a complementary bus just outside the palace which takes you to the show (see times on the board by the payment desk) although you will need your own transport back. Allow a good 2-3 hours to properly enjoy this site. Top Tips: Please dress conservatively as you are visiting a religious site. Men must have long trousers on and women must cover legs to below the knee. Clothing should be loose, so leave the skinny jeans or leggings at home. Shoulders should be covered too and footwear should ensure the foot is covered - no flip flops. If you are not you will be rightfully denied access or have to purchase the 'tourist elephant' pant or shirt. You will have to remove your footwear prior to entering the temple and you can collect them on exiting. You can leave these on racks outside. Arrive early to avoid the larger tourist groups. Don't forget your camera.

When we were on the bus driving into Bangkok, the guide told us about pickpockets and con men in the tourists areas and not to engage with people who stand on the street and tell you that the Palace is closed. We ran into two men who were insisting and telling us that it was closed today! We ignored them, walked away quickly, and yes indeed it was open!! There was a lot of walking involved in visiting the Grand Palace. The entrance was far from where you’d think you could get in. Everyone had to walk a long way on the street, take escalators underground where there is a large (air conditioned) room with clean restrooms, then you follow the crowds outside to get to the Palace complex. Women and men are required to have their knees and arms covered up. They check at the entrance and have some scarves to buy or rent if you are not appropriately dressed. It was a super hot and humid day and we went through our bottled water quickly. They have places to buy water. There are so many interesting buildings and statues to look at that we could have used a lot more time if not for that oppressive heat. The gardens and flowers were as beautiful in bloom as all the intricate mosaics on the buildings. The artists who worked on these buildings were very talented and detail oriented. This is definitely worth a visit especially if you are from North America because we certainly do not have anything comparable at home in Canada!

This is a Must Visit place if you’re in Bangkok. The palace is majestic and huge and usually has lots of tourists from all over the world. Set aside at least half a day for you to tour this place. The architecture of the palace is amazing and do take lots of pics although some places you’re not allowed to especially inside the temple. You can buy the entrance tickets which cost THB500 for foreigners over the counter or thru its official website. Do take note to come early morning to avoid the afternoon sun as it can get very hot and humid. Wear light breathable clothing, hat/cap and long pants. No shorts/skirts. The turn off is the touting and scams that is going on outside the palace. Just ignore them and walk away. I had a memorable time here with my family 😊

The view of the palace buildings in Thailand style architecture, all ornamented colorfully, right in the entrance, is just stunning and eye catching. People just kept taking pictures around, trying to find the best angle to catch the impressive view of the palaces, statues, columns and the towers. The place was very crowded with many tour groups, each one with its own guide, all of them shouting quite loudly, to explain the characteristics of the buildings to their group. The entrance fee is 500 baht. When going back to the hotel, taxis around this place were asking abusive fixed price for the ride, much more expensive than when arrived there. It is better to take a bus, in a bus stop near to the exit.

It is very nice and the part of the temples you visit is beautiful. The venue is not very large and the visit lasts Max 1.5h. The bad thing is, it's so full and everybody's taking pictures. We took an audio guide and either you're very focused following the order scrupulously or it's not worth it. If you want to hire a guide you have to do it before entering

Your first reaction when u get into the walls is: Wow!! They could be the most beautiful buildings i have ever seen. A must see place in the centre of Bangkok, it was the King of Siam's residence. It's so beautiful and crowded you could easily spending many hours there. You must wear long trousers, I bought a pair of trousers near the Palace. The temple, the statues, the buildings very coloured and accurate eastern style particulars... it's worth the fair ticket

The Grand Palace offers amazingly adorned buildings and grounds. Please review the dress code prior, or you'll be buying trousers to cover legs or a shirt for shoulders. We toured on our own but guides and audio guides are available for a price. Your entry also includes a khon thai performance at the Royal Theater complete with free shuttle to and from. Show was worth 45 minutes!

The Grand Palace is a revered site, and it's not uncommon to encounter significant queues. Patience is key when visiting this sacred place. Upon entering, visitors are expected to remove their footwear. Designated areas are provided for this purpose. It's important to remember that the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a place of worship, and as such, a respectful dress code is required. Women are kindly requested to ensure their shoulders and knees are covered.

The Grand Palace complex in downtown Bangkok is certainly the capital's major attraction. It was built in 1782 when King Rama I moved the capital from Ayutthaya here, on huge grounds by the Chao Praya river. His vision was to build a complex encompassing administrative, religious and residential needs of the Crown, and he succeeded in it. From the moment you enter the grounds you'll be stunned with amazing architecture and lavishing decorations all around you - magnificent houses, temples, hallways, stupas, guarding figures,...you name it, it's there and moreover with top notch artwork. However, it comes with a price, both - financial and comfort. Entry fee is the most expensive in all Thailand at 500 Baht (around 15$). Crowds are unbearable, so be prepared for that. For these two reasons I deduct one star, as well the fact this is one of very few palace complexes worldwide you can visit only the exteriors. You can enter only the Emerald Buddha Temple which serves as a Royal Chapel. But, despite of that, I really do recommend visiting the Grand Palace.

The grounds of The Grand Palace was pretty big, but unfortunately, even arriving early as everyone suggested, the tour groups also had the same idea. Taking pictures was nearly impossible without avoiding the crowd. Add the heat and humidity in late May, and not too many areas to hide from the sun, we literally couldn't wait to get out of here. We didn't get a map of the grounds when we paid the admission fee, so we had no idea where to go (or what we were looking at) once we entered the grounds. It was not a good experience for us. Unfortunately, we missed out on visiting the other places within The Grand Palace due to the heat and crowd (large tour groups). Bring an umbrella for the heat and/or possible rain, depending on the season you arrive. There is a different admission cost for Foreigners. And yes, there is a Dress Code, so be prepared to wear long pants and shirts with sleeves.
