Hotels near National Museum of Qatar

The immersive and experiential National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) tells the story of Qatar and its people from earliest times to today, bringing to life the peninsula’s natural history, giving voice to Qatar’s rich heritage and culture, and expressing a vibrant community’s aspirations for the future. The new museum embraces, as its centrepiece, the restored historic Palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani (1880-1957), son of the founder of modern Qatar: a building that in former times was both the home of the Royal Family and the seat of government and was subsequently the site of the original National Museum. Jean Nouvel’s new building incorporates the Palace while seamlessly integrating innovative artworks commissioned from Qatari and international artists, rare and precious objects, documentary materials, and interactive learning opportunities.

A brilliantly realised museum with an unusual look outside and in. Absolutely fascinating history. So much to see.
Unusual looking building hides a series of big galleries showing the earliest beginnings of Qatar from millions of years ago to today. Areas feature wall projected films, models, scenes, large models hanging from the ceiling, pictures, exhibits looking at all parts of how Qatar came to be and how it developed and its people. The history is fascinating and there is so much to read. I would say one downside is the small text on the information panels that explains the exhibits. Some are even near the floor needing you to get on the floor to read. In the end I could not read all of it. But overall you still get the full story. The galleries are large rooms and the floors go up and down as you make your way round. There is a lot of interaction with screens to touch. Good sections for families for kids to learn. The museum is quite substantial so you can spend hours looking at everything. The last part is a recreation of the old palace, which is outside and great to walk around and climb up various floors to get a view of the area. To finish there are two excellent shops and a cafe. There is also additional places to snack around the complex.

Well worth a visit, stunning building and lots to see.
Amazing place, stunning building, well laid out museum with plenty to see. Sadly a lot of the interactive stuff is for kids only, I’m an adult, but I like interactive, hands on stuff too. Overall definitely worth a visit. Locals and residents get in free, visitors have to pay.

    Breathtaking
Quite simply one of the best museums I've ever been to, absolutely world class. From the outside the building looks magnificent and inside it lives up to its promise A wonderful journey through what makes Qatar Qatar. It had a temporary expo on coffee and its origins to begin with but the permanent exhibitions start with natural history, the flora and fauna, the history and fossils, all superbly presented. The audio visual are what makes it. Massive screens showing the geography of the country, the singing sands, what happens when it rains, the story of oil, the history of conquest in the region. It's all quite breath-taking and has stayed with me greatly, even now, a week since I visited. To finish, a stunning light display, thousands and thousands of bulbs on vertical strings that pulsate and change colour to music. One of the most relaxing things I've ever seen. The National Museum of Qatar is amazing, an absolute must see if in Doha.

    A must-visit destination in Doha
The museum's exhibits are divided into three main chapters: Beginnings, Life in Qatar, and The Modern Age. The Beginnings chapter tells the story of Qatar's natural history and its earliest inhabitants. The Life in Qatar chapter explores Qatar's traditional culture and way of life, including its pearl diving heritage and Bedouin traditions. The Modern Age chapter tells the story of Qatar's transformation into a modern nation state.

    Interesting Exhibits and Helpful Staff
I walked from my hotel to this attraction. Not sure where the entrance is, I asked 2 Construction people who I saw entering the related construction area. They accompanied me to the building where I purchased my entrance ticket, 50 Q. Rial per person. Cash and credit cards are accepted as payment. Exhibits are widely separated from each other, starting with the displays of Qatar as a community in the old times. There are exhibits of animals, fish, mammals that are native to Qatar. Other items on display are the development and growth of Qatar as a nation, its history chronicled by various time periods. Also on display are personal items belonging to its leaders, Jazeera telecommunications, Jazeera Airways, etc. After my visit, I had a better understanding of Kuwait, its people and leaders, its history and culture.

Extraordinary museum with lots of things to enjoy
Loved visiting this museum. The building itself is fascinating but in addition the way that they have used huge screens to present life of Qatar, the dessert, the animals was extraordinary. It gives you a total immersion view. The films were beautiful.

    Great Experience
The building and architecture is insanely beautiful i have never seen such beautiful building. The history inside is greatly put together and is very detailed and is about Qatar. There is a room at the end of the museum filled with lights and is beautiful for photos.
