Chimney Rock is worth visiting again and again. Last weekend we took the Skyline Trail hike, guided by a personable and knowledgeable naturalist named Britain. As we climbed stairs and a broad trail to the top of Hickory Nut Falls, she pointed out by name countless interesting sights from mountains in the distance to rhododendron in bloom to a tiny salamander at a stream crossing. I am not a spring chicken so I appreciated Britain's encouraging attitude as well as her willingness to rest as needed. The views from Chimney Rock Park are gorgeous. If you are lucky enough to live in the vicinity, get an annual pass for your family and enjoy lots of special events. After hiking, treat yourself to an Italian sub and a scoop of ice cream at the deli. Highly recommend this beautiful natural treasure.

Well worth the entrance fee. We hiked Exclamation Trail, Chimney Rock Trail, Hickory Nut Trail, Outcropping Trail and The Great Woodland Adventure Trail. After making it up the staircase, you are pretty much superhuman, so make sure to continue on and explore the "opera box," "subway," "pulpit," and "vista" overlooks. The waterfall on Hickory Nut is also a "must see." Staff was awesome in recommending hikes that would fit our needs. After the big trails, the adventure hike was kind of a let down. I guess if you had small kids it would be worth it.

We spent the night in Chimney Rock. We could see the mountain from our hotel room. The park entrance was a short drive so we drove up the mountain the following morning. The ride up the mountain is on a twisty narrow road. One you reach the top their is 448 steps to the summit. Luckily an elevator is also available which leaves you with 43 steps to the top. My wife and I were the only two on Chimney Rock at 9am. We enjoyed the solitude of the mountain and the splendid views of Lake Lure and the surrounding mountains. A must do if you are in the area. Cost was $30 for two seniors.

We visited Chimney Rock on 4/2/24 and it was a nice warm day, so we went early as we anticipated crowds!!! Good thing we did, as when we left it was pretty busy. We arrived around 9:15, paid and drove up the winding mountain road. Found a good spot in the parking lot, and mind you it’s not a large parking lot, I imagine a wait at times. We took the elevator up to the gift shop and climbed the 40 some steps to Chimney Rock. What an incredible view! We absolutely loved it! We stayed about 1 1/2 hours but wish we would have had more time in the park as well as in the village of Chimney Rock. We would definitely return to this beautiful state park!

Beautiful place to visit! We brought our 3 littles (all under age 9) to visit. We got there just in time for the 2p animal show, where the kids got to see a hawk, an owl, and a snake up close. Afterwards, we took the long journey up to the top. Yes, it's a lot of steps, but not impossible if you pace yourself. Many stopping points and overlooks along the way. At the top is a gift shop with merchandise, refreshments, and ice cream that we enjoyed on the hot day. You can climb higher than the rock to view more, if you wish. Tip - Buy your tickets online in advance. It's cheaper to do the family package that way. Wear tennis shoes! Bring your own water. If you have small kids, you can rent a hiking backpack to carry them on your back.

We visited Chimney Rock in early November, towards the end of the fall leaf color. Great facility with awesome views. Park low if you want the extra walk or in order to picnic quietly.

So nice!! We took the stairs all the way up! Whew! 😃 The views are just beautiful and we really enjoyed it. There is also an elevator. $17/person to enter which includes parking. We did find a coupon online for $2 off per person which helped. The lounge/giftshop at the top is huge with souvenirs and snacks/ice cream. Lots of outdoor tables to sit at also. It was a great time! So glad we went.

Got there early on a clear spring weekday and took elevator to shop then walked to top of rock, which was easy. We packed a lunch and walked up to Peregrine Point. More strenuous and rustic than I anticipated, with lots of stairs and railing. Finally get to some woods too. Lots of picnic tables to walk and drive to. Then walked down to do the falls trail. Beautiful with 165 stairs to climb though from upper parking lot.

We were here 30+ yrs ago and it's still a nice place to visit. Remember to wear walking shoes and clothes. It's almost 500 steps to the top. There is a refreshment stand at the top so take money or a bottle of water. You'll need it.
