- angvad83 contributionsAn enjoyable dayRecently visited and we were definitely not disappointed. The gardens were amazing , huge credit to the gardeners, made our way over to the hall for the tour, we were greeted by the butler and made very welcome, we were then shown round for a full hour by a lovely lady , she was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting . The hall was spectacular, most definitely worth the visit, will return at a later date as I am sure we did not get to see everythingThank you for taking the time time to leave us a review. - Alan RNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom5 contributionsCafe let this venue downGardens and walks are lovely. Cafe let this venue down. Ordered tea and coffee and waited 25 minutes for it to arrive. Even then it was only after another table had complained twice about the wait. Cafe employs young people which I applaud but please give them training and on the job supervision.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the gardens. The cafe do work very hard each day sometimes under extensive pressure to deliver good service. The feedback is usually exceptionally good so I apologise you did not feel this was the case during your visit. All feedback is taken very seriously. Thank you again for your review, I do hope we can welcome you to Scampston in the future.Written 1 July 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 June 2024

- EdH6 contributionsExcellent experience all roundGreat visit to Scampston - gardens, house visit, grounds and cafe all excellent. Entry through membership of Historic houses so excellent value. Lunch and afternoon tea great value with large portions. The tour of the house, hosted by Craig and Anne, was the best we have experienced across many visits and bought the history of the house to life. Oh and the sun shone too..Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. - helzie8United Kingdom287 contributionsLovely walled gardenThe walled garden is beautiful and well kept with some interesting planting and was great to wander through on a sunny day. You can buy some of the featured plants too. The house tour took 1 hour and was informative and historical but a little too focused on the facts and paintings (for us) we enjoy hearing anecdotes about eccentric family figures, funny events, the ghost most old houses seem to have! We ate lunch in the cafe, it’s nicely decorated in a country vibe with plenty of tables inside and out. My smoked chicken sandwich with jalapeño mayo was huge and delicious. My partner had the croissant which was lukewarm with cold cheese and ham inside so he wasn’t impressed. Scampston is certainly worth visiting with its beautiful garden, plenty of parking, it’s easy to find, has a nice cafe and is a great stop off point on the way to the coast. - Drummer G10 contributionsA lovely visit with lasting memories. It is about 20 years since we last visited, and the gardens have developed beautifully - well done to Andy and the team, (I think the head gardener is called Andy - if not, well done anyway!!). Lots of colours, contrast, textures shapes and movement in the gardens. Marjorie gave us a not to be forgotten tour of the parkland and grounds, she was engaging as a person and guide. We enjoyed being 'locked out' of our return on the tour, and needed to be rescued by the staff, after the production team of Bangers and Cash setting up nearby had a mishap of communication. (They were also allowing large sections of wrapping material fly away, which we collected en route). So an unexpected adventure, (well, nearly!). Café staff were friendly, and the decaff coffees were lovely and strong tasting - just right. Would recommend to all ages, and look out for the tours and activities and so on on the website when planning when to come. We were pleased to hear how many members of the community are helping, and especially involving people with moderate learning difficulties. So thanks for a lovely visit to all.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit to Scampston (the head gardener is called Andy) and could see the progress that has been made in the gardens. Apologies for the little miscommunication with the event organisers - it all adds to the fun! So pleased you enjoyed the heritage tour with Marjorie, the volunteers work so hard out of pure passion and it is so wonderful they get the recognition they deserve Thank you again for the lovely feedback, we hope to welcome you to Scampston again soon!Written 9 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 August 2024
- Alison B6 contributionsBeautiful gardens, fantastic foodWalled gardens were absolutely beautiful as was the parkland. Only slightly disappointed to find that the rockery wasn't planted up but hope this is a work in progress. Also unable to access the aviary that is listed in the map. However the spectacular lunch that was 5 star made up for it. Would definitely recommend.Hi Alison, Thank you so much for your kind review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the walled gardens and parkland, and that your lunch left such a positive impression on you. We appreciate your understanding regarding the rockery, and you're right—it is a work in progress, with exciting plans in place for the future - we can't wait to see it restored to its former glory. The aviary is a historic site highlighted on the map to show where it used to sit so is never somewhere visitors can access. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!
