First of all it’s in the middle of no where down a dusty dirt road. To make it very clear, the staff is wonderful, as are all the Cambodians, but how on earth this property was rated five stars is beyond me. The place looks nothing like the pictures. The AC does not work. The

Dear Gregalford, Thank you for saying our staff was wonderful. They are indeed and we are very proud of them. Most of our young staff are inexperienced and we are often their first paid job. We train them in hospitality and service, plus give them life skills and career progression training as well as two English lessons a week. Unfortunately we feel the rest of the review is unfair, but not unexpected, as you threatened us with “The Tripadvisor Review from Hell” before you had even arrived. Location The hotel location is clearly marked on maps available on all booking engines and the website. It is less than a mile to Pub Street, the Old Market or the Kings Road restaurant area. It is a pleasant 20 minute stroll, or a couple of minutes in a tuk tuk at a cost of $2. What looks like a “dusty, dirt road” is actually a residential street in Siem Reap that had been recently graded. Cambodia is a very poor country, only main roads are sealed, unless they are next to open drains in which case they are concrete. The majority of residential streets in Siem Reap are unsealed. Booking – Double Room The booking made was for a budget double room. A double room has a double bed, not as you required, a twin room which has two beds. We apologies for this misunderstanding and for not having the room your booked months ago available. We had a group of people at the hotel who had been volunteering their time building houses for disadvantaged Cambodians and they extended their stay for an extra two days. This meant that the budget double room you had booked was not available nor was a twin budget room, so we offered to upgrade you to our 5 Star Resort and Spa in another location in Siem Reap, which you rejected rather rudely with the above threat. Room We upgraded the room to a premium double, however as mentioned above, that was not suitable so a premium twin was offered and accepted. There were no guests in the rooms next door on the night you stayed, so we do not know which toilet you heard. Air-conditioner and Fan The air-conditioner temperature is in Celsius, not Fahrenheit. When a guest turns the temperature up, it will not cool the room. After checkout, housekeeping noticed the air-conditioner was set to 28 degrees Celsius which is 82 degrees Fahrenheit. All air-conditioning units in the Hotel were checked by engineering in the last week to ensure they work correctly. The fan was checked as soon as we saw the review, as we were not informed it was noisy. The fan does not make any more noise than any other correctly fitting ceiling fan. There is nothing we can do to make the fan quieter without changing the laws of physics. Smell The “funky” smell is lemongrass essential oil in a warmer. We apologies you found it disagreeable, but we would have changed it or removed it immediately if we had been informed. Breakfast and Coffee The breakfast buffet has over 20 dishes, we are sorry that none of them were to your taste. Our chef does not load the food up with salt, sugar, fat or MSG. We also have an a la carte menu cooked to order as well as the egg station. We apologies that the coffee was not hot enough. The percolated coffee is not kept at a scalding hot temperature for the safety of our guests and because it burns the coffee. Espresso style coffee is also available and made to order. Cost “For a little more you can stay at a five star hotel”. We feel this is very unfair. The Hotel you booked into is more than three times the cost per night for their cheapest room as the room booked in our hotel. Photographs The reason the photographs do not match the room that was booked is because you were upgraded. However, we would like to thank you for the photos you did post of the breakfast and pool. Bed Comfort Generally in Asia you will find hard mattresses in most hotels. We are investigating investing in mattress toppers to fit for those guests who require a much softer mattress. We are disappointed that we could not live up to your expectations and that you felt that you could not raise the issues you had with our hotel prior to this review. We apologies profusely that nothing we did was to your satisfaction. Jam Hotel Manager
