Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
A small, byzantine church from the 11th century which celebrates on 21 November each year.
It really worth your time to explore its outside and, also, its inside.
It is open from 09-14:00 and 16-20:00 (Saturday and Sunday opens only in am).
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens takes care of its maintenance.
This museum tells the stories and the histories of Jewish communities in various areas of Greece. There is a large collection from one family with many photos showing their lives in 1800's and 1900's. Small, but worth a visit.
Points of Interest & Landmarks, Churches & Cathedrals

We had no intention to stop there but along the way we decided to stop by and have a look. The inner atmosphere is fabulous and capturing. Icons and paintings speak of a million words. I am glad we stopped by. Nice place and atmosphere.
This is overlooked generally because it sits right near the Metropolis Cathedral. It is worth a look though but for me the most interesting part was the outside walls with the animal reliefs. The church is quite historic, dating back to the 12th century but I don't think a lot of this remains inside apart from a Byzantine era painting.
We drove past this when we arrived in the city & walked past it several times as we were staying nearby. It is right beside a main road in the centre of Athens, so noisy, but it is free to visit. There's a spot to view Temple of Zeus right behind it so no need to walk much further if...
My family and I visited Avocado on multiple occasions during our holiday to Athens. They offer a wide choice of healthy vegan/vegetarian food which is all delicious and very reasonably priced for the skill of production and quality of ingredients you receive!
The customer service was superb in this restaurant, extremely attentive, friendly and polite.
Would highly recommend to anyone...
Excellent wine selection and offerings! Varied list of high quality wine adventures or traditional gems! Food also has many cutting edge ideas with layers of flavor—not to mention warm, knowledgeable and generous staff! Will be back upon ANY return to Athens!
Dishes below: watermelon salad with feta “eggrolls”, sautéed squid, rib eye, nutella banana dessert.
We came here at 8:40am (they opened at 8) and they said we couldnt get the Lukumades till after 9. Um what? You aren't prepared to serve your main food until an hour after you open? How about showing up to work before you open and doing some prep work. It was good once we finally got it (takes 15...

"Delicious Street Food"
reviewed 4 days ago by Wayne-Dani
I already miss the daily trip to Falafellas, now we’ve left Athens.
For 3.80€ the Giant Falafel Wrap is a perfect lunch on the go. It really is delicious.
As street food goes, it doesn’t get much better.
I stayed in the AVA Hotel for 4 nights in June 2018 for the first time, and I can not imagine a better experience. The staff of the hotel were friendly, helpful and professional; the suite was spacious, comfortable and immaculate; the airport pick-up, which they arranged, was on time and comfortable; the breakfast was plentiful and varied (although, perhaps,...
Enjoyed our time at AthensWAS hotel. The location was amazing with a short walk to major sights. Breakfast was great everyday and the front desk was very helpful with arranging transfers and giving suggestions. Our courtyard room was quiet. Rooftop restaurant has great views.
We booked here for one night after arriving early morning, and they let us check in early since our room was available. They also gave us a free breakfast since we would be missing the breakfast the next day due to an early departure to the port.
The service and front desk staff were amazing, didn't hurt that I speak...
Although it’s 5 stars, it’s not what I would expect from 5 stars in America. That said, it’s conveniently located, the front desk staff was helpful and the rooftop restaurant is gorgeous, affordable, and delicious. The pool chairs fill quickly. It’s fine for a quick stay.
This was the third time we have stayed at this hotel. It is in a great location for shopping, exploring and general sightseeing. There are a multitude of restaurants nearby with a range of choices in terms of quality. The rooms are not 5 star but they are very comfortable and clean. The lift is painful as it is very...
