Take the ferry to the inner west suburb of Balmain and be enchanted with this picturesque and eclectic waterside area. A stroll down Darling Street will take you on a tour of coffee shops, boutique delicatessens and shops offering wholefood products and organic cuisines. Yoga studios abound, and live music emanates from the hotels at night. As the place where the Australian Labor Party formed in 1891, Balmain has commonly been known for its “working class culture”. It has evolved into a health-conscious heaven with a laid back attitude, offering one of the most vibrant food and bar scenes in Sydney.
"Ideas for getting there...walk down from main St (Darling St)"

Balmain is a gorgeous (now v popular) historic village (close to the city) which was once a working class area near the harbour. My mother grew up in East Balmain (near the wharf) - her father was a fisherman from about 1900. There’s a small park near Balmain East wharf (regular ferries from Circular Quay) but if you take the...
"Convenient well-kept park in the centre of Balmain"

A good chunk of the park is taken up with a school and a bowling club, and you don't get the water views of the harbourside parks in Balmain, but I was impressed by the quality of the grass and most of the maintenance (the toilets near the bus stop aren't great). It makes a good spot to relax or...
Balmain is probably the perfect place for such a gallery - you tend to associate this area with the artistic and literature so it's got a head start. Not necessarily world standard but some interesting works to look at in between your coffee fixes.
Very professional people. Small but nice facilities.
Sailing Cat was great . I would recommend to anyone wishing learning sailing. Great place to start. Sydney harbor has a lot of traffic and buoys to learn from!
Thanks / Bernard
Just checked out the new 506 in Balmain and had a 1 hr Swedish-style massage that was absolutely brilliant and very relaxing. 506 have a signature offering where you can choose the kind of massage oil you want, the music, the type of massage, where more or less time should be spent etc. I had a rough day so went...
My partner and I decided on a spontaneous visit to Effendy. The venue is great for a romantic dinner. The service was so good, our waiter was friendly and helped us decide on our meals. The atmosphere was great. And lastly the flavours of the food were totally amazing. Definitely worth a visit. My new favourite restaurant.
By far one of the best evenings we have had here, with great food and friends listening to a world class alternative Spanish band known as “Kallidad” (if you haven’t heard of them google them!). The staff were great, mussels were the champion and the wine was excellent. A++++
We were looking for somewhere quick tonight and close to where we were staying on darling street. A lot of restaurants are closed Monday’s & possibly Tuesday so it was tricky. We went out for a walk and this looked quite cool. Staff were super friendly and helpful with our son. The menu was great and very tasty. Kids eat...
NO corkage is one of Le Regole (The Rules)! This is the Rule that most appeases me. However it was Rule No. 2 that left Baroness aghast and rebellious. Rule No.2 at Balmain's Rosso Pomodoro was no pineapple on the pizze. As she is a Queenslander she finds this particularly offensive and considers such a statement as an affront to...
We happened on this pub by chance when strolling around Balmain on a Sunday lunchtime. It was a good find. We shared Plates including a good Salt & Pepper Squid, and an excellent Capricossa Pizza. The Menu choices looked varied and interesting. Friendly service, in comfortable surroundings.
It´s perfect place for enjoy with friends. The hotel is located in the best famous street in Balmain. This place is close for everything, transports, supermarkets, a lot of stores and boutiques. Easy to go and back.
