The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.
I enjoyed exploring the least known or less touristy place. This is one of them. This is a small temple yet full of local flavours.
I took my time to stroll around and inside the temple. Spent some time watching how the local practice their praying ritual.
Good to include in your itinerary if you have time to spare and...
I was surprised how nice this place was in the middle of Kowloon. Trees and a shady place to sit and just relax. The temple itself is your typical Chinese Temple. Lots of incense burning. Worth the 5 minutes it takes to just check it out.
It may be only small but it is quite verdant and shady. Suprisingly it is quite hilly also as you walk in the paths. It's quite near to Austin station and not that far from Kowloon Park so if you plan it right you can walk through both.
You can skip this square. Except for a few shops and couple coffee shops that's it.
I personally find this area a bit untidy. You can also see dried meat and susages hanging from some shop windows.
If you are looking for shopping u can try elsewhere.
Located on HK’s quirky Temple Street, amidst the market stands, it can be easily missed. In my eyes, it is a must-eat in Hong Kong. Do not let the appearance fool you, the dishes burst with intricate patterns of spices and fresh herbs, the staff is extremely friendly and fluent in English.
Here, you get authentic, MSG-free and organic nepalese...
This place doesn't look much from the outside but the greeting and service on the inside were excellent.
The menu was a mixture.....Nepalese curries and pizzas! I know it sounds naff but the place works well and our curries were spot on.
The toilets were clean and I glanced in to see well organised, tidy kitchens.
I would give this...
My partner & I prefer staying in boutique hotels rather than chain. Hotel Stage proved this point.
Getting there from Airport is easy. We took the A22 bus which stopped just around the corner ($55 for a roundtrip ticket from the airport counter). It was just a 3-stop (30-40 minutes) from the airport compared to the A21.
Traveling around HK...
Well appointed rooms, close to the MRT all transport actually. Array of food options just outside the door and great value really enjoyed the free mobile Wifi unit that comes with the room. Looking for a very clean place without breaking the budget? Here it is
Friendly staff, close to A21 bus stops to and from the airport. Close to MTR, clean, nice rooms and it has washing machines and dryers on the roof. Try DiMDimSum Dim Sum Restaurant not far away, great food and reasonable prices.
We stayed here for three nights as part of a Nexus holiday package (Classic option...don’t opt for the cheaper one!)
Very central location in Nathan Road. Friendly, helpful staff. Great breakfast buffet. The bar meal menu provides a terrific range of options, meaning you needn’t eat in the full restaurant. We tried their classic high tea one afternoon and weren’t...
Great location for shopping and ferry. WiFi adequate. Decent buffet breakfast. Reception staff okay but not particularly friendly. Adequate amenities in room but nothing special. Room reasonably spacious and adequate. No serious complaints. (Wavered between three and four stars but settled on four. Really would say 3.5!)
