Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
cable car opens at 8am. If u be early u skip the long ques afterwards. First cable car takes u to smaller hill and second to top. Costs are 80 realos for RT (2017). If u like to go afterwards to corovado take a taxi or bus 583 from 10mi walk shopping center where u also get tickets for cosme...
This is a great place to go if the exposition taking place there is a good one, and if you have enough time to wait on the line (this is a really important fact, because the expositions at CCBB are usually cheap, so sometimes you have to spend a few hours on the line).
The monastery isn't open for visitors but you can see the fantastically ornate church. The inside is amazing and a total surprise after the very plain exterior. The decorations are mainly of wood and gold leaf and well worth a look
Well, as I use to say: Every costumer knows when the owner of the business is on duty. Mauricio takes his task very seriously and developed sharp eyes to every costumer needs or feeling in concern of quality of food and service.
The waiter Zé (pronounce the é as you say in yeah) is outstanding.
You will pay a formula...
My wife and I visited Rio Scenarium during our honeymoon trip to Rio.
Despite the failure of the hotel concierge to register the VIP status he promised when we asked him to book us a table the staff at Rio Scenarium could not have been more helpful or attentive. The food service was prompt and the food itself both very...

This fantastic old bakery / tea shop is brilliant to look at. You can wander inside, buy cakes etc to take away or sit inside and have a drink and snack. It is as it was 200 years ago and really worth a look- though it's not at all cheap!
Just around the corner from Cinelândia metro station, this hotel is located in a vibrant and central downtown part of the city. We stayed here for two weeks in September last year, partly for business, mostly for pleasure (I had always wanted to visit Rio!) and it turned out to be a very satisfying choice of hotel and good value...
This is a good hotel to use for the aviation enthusiast. None of the rooms give a view of the airport but you do have views of the aircraft from the roof top area.
So to business. This is a 5 star hotel!!
Check in was a quick as it could be with a group of 32. the reception area...
The hotel is your typical Novotel, you know it's clean and tidy with decent spacious rooms and shower and bathroom facilities.
The restaurant is open 24hrs but the bar closes at 11pm. I arrived late so had to go next door to the Ibis for a beer.
Security on the door, so in a safe environment.
My husband and I spent a night here. Great if you want to be in the middle of the city. We had a corner room with a great view of the church and the harbour. Slightly dated rooms but very comfortable and great facilities. A very tasty buffet breakfast.
I won't recommend this location to a foreign person. I think and feel this place is more for locals unless you speak the language and you are completely independent. I hired a tour guide while my visit in Río de Janeiro and this person was picking and dropping us off as part of his job for the hotel that was...
