Good solid four star Japanese. This is a favourite restaurant of my good friends who love their Japanese and good food generally. Nice restaurant. Very good dishes. All of them. Every dish we had tonight was great - see photos. Service, particularly from the lovely Zoe, was efficient and friendly. We had a great night. Been here twice. I'd love... More

A party of 4. 1st time visit. We ordered the large sashimi $39 I have never had such a small serve anywhere in Melbourne. Ridiculous portion. We had to ask the waitress to bring the sauce otherwise it would have been a dry dish. Entrees were nice but the Wagyu beef main was an awful presentation for a Japanese restaurant.... More

It has been a little while since we last visited Asakusa & note an ownership change has occurred. This was a Birthday celebration & we were a party of 2. Not very busy this mid week evening but sadly an extremely loud table of 6 ladies made sure they were heard. But we were here for the food which as on... More

Asakusa continues to present excellent food at very reasonable prices. I have been going for several years and have never been disappointed. Very friendly service and a very good sushi chef.

We have been to Asakusa years ago. Now we have moved into the area and are in walking distance, we decided to try it again - we are happy that we did. The restaurant is comfortable. We chose to sit right in front of the Sushi Chef because we enjoy watching them work. Our waitress told us it was her... More

We do take away from Asakusa quite regularly as it is my 18yr olds favourite. I have been making excuses for them over a period of time eg: "they are busy", but after 3 chances I am venting: the food is not worth the price, a small container of Miso $4 and small tub of rice $2.50 The staff are... A recent change in ownership has not changed the great quality and variety of the menu. A generous sashimi platter is a delight. Serves are plentiful and raw dishes fresh and tasty. Friendly staff with owners keeping an eye on things. Steven the well known sashimi chef is very popular and greets many diners by name.

Looking for somewhere to eat our dinner last night we were driving past this little shopping strip with a few restaurants. We stopped and decided to try Asakusa. It is small and cosy. We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised as the food was so fresh and delicious. We could not fault anything we had and... More

Asakusa is NOT a Japanese restaurant. The food was poor quality and arrived at the table after a 30 minute wait in dribs and drabs. The waiter did not know what was on the menu and was wearing tracksuit pants. The staff are all Chinese and do not know what is authentic Japanese food. The waitress Grace, was extremely rude.... This hidden gem is a must for anyone living in the area or visiting. We've been coming to Asakusa for years. A truly authentic japanese menu cooked to perfection, with some of the best sushi/sashimi you can get in Melbourne. The staff are always friendly. The chef welcomes everyone from behind the sushi bar. There's many wonderful things to have... More
