New owner Denise is the best owner possible for this great location 😎

The new owner Denise is fantastic! She made the absolute best White Russian cocktail I’ve ever had and the fish, mahi-mahi, the freshest in all of Costa Rica. The restaurant/bar is close to the beach and the breeze was as refreshing as Denise. I will be going back for dinner tonight and try the bacon wrapped filet.

This is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica. You can expect great food, ice cold beer, and awesome people that treat you like family. The owner Denise and the bartender Fatima were so nice and the service was top notch. If you're around on a Friday evening, stop by for BBQ night and good times.

There are places I remember .... please Denise ..

We have been coming to the Restaurant annually for about 6 years bar 2021. So it's changed hands and Denise is looking to the future. yay to that! Please Denise don't change the building of this beautiful place, it's perfect as it is with the lovely wooden bar, the high structure of the palapa and tables cooled by the ocean breeze. No modernisation can improve this fundamental structure. We have in the past eaten food we.may not have liked but it's always been 100% pleasure to be sitting there. Our meal last night was excellent. It's a very special place .

Tough Ribs

We were told this was the place to eat in the area but we were disappointed with the food and the service. We went on BBQ night and ordered Ribs. We had to wait about an hour and the when they came they were as tough as old boots! Service was slow, only one person working the whole restaurant.

Meet the ex-pats and local Ticos (nationals) looking out on el Pacifico. Good food and reasonably prompt service. Friday is BBQ night, when the residents come out to play. The bar is Hemmingway-esque, and everyone has a tale to tell. Even you. We've gone about 10 times in ten weeks: suppers, lunches, breakfast. Worth every penny: a treat every time

Favorite place to eat in Zancudo

Visted several times for lunch and/or dinner while staying at the nearby Los Cocos cabinas. Loved this cute and clean open air, beachfront restaurant and bar with its friendly staff and great food! The kitchen is organized and spotless. Everything we ordered was reasonably priced, well prepared and tasted great! We especially liked the local Casado with fish. There are many beautiful palm trees and views of the Golfo Dulce from every table. Highly recommend!

Great View and Food

The is the second time to Zancudo and Sol y Mar was a must stop for us because we remembered how good it was 5 years earlier. The beach is fun to play on, the hammocks are a bonus for a nap in the shade and the staff and food are great.

Great cabinas, great beach!

We stayed at Sol Y Mar for three days in March and and were very happy there. The cabinas are steps from a great swimming beach and we spent out days just going from beach to hammock and back again. The bar was a popular place, especially on Friday which was horseshoe night. The food was decent and well priced and the staff were very pleasant.

Our favorite place to eat in Zancudo

We were in Zancudo for 4 days, and we ate here every day. Sometimes twice. Great drinks, great food, great people. A mix of regulars, locals, hotel guests and others who are visiting Zancudo and staying elsewhere. The fish with coconut curry is not to be missed. I was also a huge fan of the fish tacos. And don’t get me started about the Pina Coladas. Worth every single calorie. We had family join us later in our stay and -of course- we all ate here several times together. They are just as hospitable to a party of 8 as they are to a couple hanging out at the bar. A great find in a great, relaxed beach town.

Warm welcome here

We met some 'old timers' on the plane down to Zan and were encouraged to visit Sol y Mar by them. We were told that we would get a warm welcome and some great food. They weren't wrong.....super friendly owners & community here. Had a fabulous tuna steak. Nice vibe - right on beach. Sorry that we didn't get to hear Bob and his pals playing their live music as the guy was so charming and had a bucket full of stories to tell. Two of the local/Expats drove back to give us a lift back to our lodge when they realised that we were a long walk from home. Wonderful spot ..even if we were the only Brits in town!

The place to visit!

Zancudo in general is a small town, little touristy and isolated in the south of the country. Mar y Sol is definitely the place to visit and make friends, I think it is the most active place on the entire beach. The food in general is good to excellent, in the pair of meals that my children and I have ordered, we do not fail, rich, delicious, fast, average price for a place with this access. I definitely have to go back and eat my favorite fish soup. As for the staff, they are friendly and kind.

Hidden Gem

Sol y Mar was such a great place! If you want relaxation this is it! The staff was so kind and made our stay so enjoyable We would wake up to howler monkeys and then walk the beach and swim everyday! In the evening the most gorgeous sunsets. Walter would cut fresh coconuts for us, so refreshing! There is a great bar & restaurant at Sol y Mar. Food was so good and live music on Wednesday with Peter Feeley. Also, we were able to catch the Monday night Seahawk game! There is a great boutique with lots of great clothes, I loaded up! We will definitely be back.

Always something going on here

Great bar and restaurant with delightfully friendly and fun staff. The food is great with a wide variety of choices on the menu. There are daily specials and amazing desserts. Rick’s fresh caught, sea food Bar-BQ and Lori’s Key Lime pie Stick in my mind the most. This place is pretty much open any time you’d be awake. Not sure how they do it. There is always something going on. Live music at least once a week, sometimes more and occasional roving mariachi on Saturday nights. Awesome and eclectic playlist on the stereo for all other times. Two TVs broadcast any and all not to be missed sporting events. Volleyball courts and horseshoe pits are right next to the main bar zone as well. Owners Lori and Rick also know their way around the peninsula and can hook you up with any adventure or excursion your heart desires. They know EVERYBODY. All this fun but still a very family friendly atmosphere.
