My wife and I had Sunday Lunch at 2.00pm on February 9th, having won a voucher in a Wem Tennis Club Draw.
Disappointed that when I booked the meal on Friday 7th I was told that they wouldn't cook fish for my son who wanted to join us as the fryer would not be on. However, on the Sunday I was told they can cook fish if you phone in advance... I thought I had. Also disappointed that there was no roast beef by 2.00pm.
I gave orders for Turkey and Lamb at the bar and the meals arrived very quickly and the service by a young waitress, who worked very hard throughout the time we were at the Castle, was excellent. I think the size of the meal was a Regular (obviously dictated by the voucher prize) and the portions were fine save for only 1/2 a roast potato each. The portions of 4 vegetables - new potatoes, parsnips, sprouts and carrots were more than enough for 2. My wife had a Chocolate and Caramel Waffle with ice cream for dessert which she really enjoyed.
A lovely Joules pub which was warm, friendly and welcoming.

Most recent visit was for the BBQ and singer on Saturday 5th September to cheer up people who would normally have been in Wem for the famous Annual Carnival. Well cooked inexpensive food, great singer and good company. All tables socially distanced with maximum of 6 people to each. Obviously a lot of hard work went into producing a very enjoyable evening, and my little dog enjoyed being there too.

I just wanted a quick lunch on the work do.
it turned out I was booked on the Christmas meal at £17.95
Bread and oil starter I skipped.
The turkey meal was fine.
I didn't really want a dessert, but Christmas Pudding was on offer which I had.
Needed to get off back to work so I had to skip the coffer.
Not impressed with the price.
I wont be going back

I’m sorry you felt our Christmas Party menu was over priced and that you didn’t have enough time to enjoy it fully.
Our Christmas Party menu is a pre-book only menu, but our lunchtime menu was also made available to pre-order for those who didn’t want to pay for a 2-course meal or fancied something different to a Christmas dinner. This was communicated to your party leader on 2 occasions so we can only apologise as it sounds like he didn’t communicate this back to you.
If you return for your Christmas meal this year (as I understand everyone else thoroughly enjoyed it) you are more than welcome to place an order from our lunchtime menu which ranges in price from £4.75 - £14.95 per meal and if you let our team know the timeframe you have to comfortable eat and enjoy your colleagues company, they will do everything they can to ensure your meal comes out with plenty of time.

We have never been to this area so knew nothing of the eating establishments. Luckily, we chose the Castle.
It was a lovely old pub with very friendly staff and good Covid measures. Our wives chose the Vegetable Curry which they said was delicious and us men chose the Castle Stack, which was so tasty. Alan had a shandy which was made with the local beer Joules, which he said was excellent, as was the bottle of Pinot Grigio.
In all, it was a fabulous experience.

19 of us went for a meal with our Bowling club to celebrate the end of season. The staff were so friendly nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent and we were all served together and with no wait. Every meal looked great and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal at a reasonable price.

Called for Sunday lunch and we’re lucky to get a table without booking. Ordered roast beef dinners which were absolutely delicious. There was plenty of beef which was so tender it meted I’m your mouth.
Ample veggies and loads of gravy.
Service was fantastic and the beer was great too.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime. Very tasty sandwiches - BLT for me and fish finger sandwich for my husband, complete with salad and a portion of chips. Very friendly and efficient staff and everything was spotlessly clean. All at an excellent price 👍

Ive been to the Castle numerous times previously and I visited again for Sunday lunch with my family.I had the mushroom stroganoff as Im vegetarian,it was absolutely beautiful,probably the best stroganoff Ive had,my Mum had a chicken and leek cottage pie and she thoroughly enjoyed it.We were given plenty of vegetables to accompany our meal.The staff are always so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is traditional and cosy !

Went for Sunday lunch which is carvery. Absolutely delicious. Good choice of meats, veg & potatoes all fresh and nicely cooked. Also good choice of equally delicious puddings.

Midweek lunch outing with our friends. Had agreed to take lunch at a venue in the area not visited before. Venue cold, drab and not welcoming. So, we traveled to the town centre and found this establishment. Superb, and more superb. We cannot compliment the staff enough for courteous and friendly service. Wednesday was Curry & Pint day (£7.95), so why not. Upgraded all four meals to starters, dessert and coffee. The food was excellent. Why haven't we noticed this place before??? We will be back for sure.

Had a great Sunday lunch with the family. Tasty meat and a good selection of fresh vegetables. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff the lady waiting on our table was excellent especially looking after our 2 year old granddaughter

My partner and I were camping at a local park and visited here for dinner. The staff were absolutely amazing, the food was lovely and we really enjoyed our evening here! We both had a meal off the steak night menu and a 'few' sides. It honestly was a fab pub! We were served by a blonde lady and she was lovely lady. Thank you!

Ideal stop for a drink and something to eat, I had the Castle Burger and my Wife had Scampi. Both dishes were great and the chips were fabulous. Good honest pub grub served well and all Covid-19 measures undertaken from start to finish.

Started using The Castle about a year ago when moved to Wem. The staff and locals made me feel very welcome. Like an afternoon pint and the real ale always top quality. I enjoy the pale ale and its spot on. Amy and Darren ate great behind the bar and always very attentive. Would recommend highly. Many thanks Jon and Stan

Sunday lunch with the family. Brilliant meal. Lovely roast dinners with plenty of veg. Kids had great deserts. Service was really good - friendly, efficient, lovely lunch.
