It was one of the coldest days in Niseko and also the last day of our week long trip here in Niseko. We wanted to end the trip with a beautiful and memorable closure with a dinner at Kanon, but it proved to be a...bad decision made to have chosen this restaurant. First, when I made the reservation online, no details were given on the ‘Special’ menu and the ‘Basic’ menu. We chose the special menu for 10,000 yen per person (which is considered as very high end and expensive in Hokkaido) but only to find out on the day of the visit and the only difference is a sashimi platter which only contains a few pieces of sashimi. Second, it was a very cold day and when we went in, we just want to start the evening with three cups of warm water. The waitress spoke to us in Mandarin (which is not my language!) and said there is a charge of 100 yen per cup. I am sitting in on an expensive dinner but asked to pay 100 yen for just a cup of water!? I have been to many fancy restaurants and this is not how customers should be treated! I finished the cup in a matter of seconds, so I ordered another glass of coke. Guess what? It came in a kiddy size where I finished it in four sips and that cost me 400 yen! It’s not the amount, but the service that tells you that this restaurant is nothing close to being high end or worth the price stated on the menu. The crab dishes were ok, but not spectacular. I have had many better ones elsewhere. The one very disappointing dish is the snow crabs. They were very difficult to handle because of their hard needles, but no gloves or handling equipment were given. I got poked into my fingers a few times while trying to eat it and there was no one who came by to ask how were the dishes etc. Generally not a restaurant that I would waste a precious Niseko night to spend. Worst off, when we left the restaurant and walked towards our car, there was a man on the restaurant rooftop who was ploughing slow on top of our car. Without noticing him, my husband started clearing the snow off our car’s windshield, and that man just shuffled a bunch of snow onto my husband and our car. It was freezing!! There was no apology or simply just asking whether we are alright. A complete ripe-off and obviously my worst and most excessively spent evening in Niseko. Would NOt recommend!More
