Highly recommended for families in the Lower Hirafu area. Everything was good, particularly sushi rolls and gyoza.

No faults during both our visits. The food was great, and also suitable for the vegan in our group. They make a mean Kimchi and the hand-made gyoza are outstanding. No complaints on any of their food at all. Would recommend if you’re in the...mood for Japanese food!More

Finding vegan food in smaller towns in Japan can sometimes be tricky, so we trusted the almighty internet and it brought us to Kougetsu. Ate there couple times during the stay in Niseko and the food and service was excellent.

Fantastic atmosphere, mix of seating options to suit all. Try the Avo Nori, Gesowasamayo, Gyoza, Sashimi, potato wedges, niku jaga and more. Never tried the hot pot so can't comment. Lovely staff, definitely worth a visit!

We’ve been coming to Kougetsu for a few years now and it’s still the most reliable place in town. Quiet enough to be able to get a table with no reservation, the staff are attentive, polite and chatty. Good selection of nihonshu, shochu and mixed...drinks at reasonable prices. The food is fantastic and very well priced - sashimi is high quality, gyozas are hand made, grilled hoke (mackerel) is delicious and the local fried potatoes are honestly the tastiest potatoes I’ve ever eaten. Lots of food and drinks for 12,000 JPY for three people, which is great value for Niseko. Skip the shabu shabu and nabe (hot pots) as you’re better going to a speciality place for those (that dish is not supposed to be a single serving, they only do it here for the tourists).More

In thirty years of international travel, my husband and I have never actually walked out of a restaurant for poor service so this was a new low. We were seated and ordered the daikon radish salad and edamame (neither of which I’d recommend), we ordered...gyoza....waited 45 minutes and never got our order....servers kept ignoring us and never asked us how we were doing..we finally caught someone’s attention and asked again for the gyoza ....noted the time and gave it another ten minutes and walked out. Food trucks up the street were awesome. Skip this place.More

Warm & inviting decor & seating upstairs; gyoza tasty, sashimi excellent; Shabu shabu a dud until we Enhanced it by pouring our sesame dipping sauce into the broth. Service friendly, need to work on food delivery and taste.

The food is ok, not great. The staff not very friendly. They bring us the bill and kicked us out of the table and at the end they did not allowed us to pay with two credit cards, being only two families. It is not...a place to come back.More

Wonderful ambience, great service and good food. Definitely worth a visit but you need to book. Took care of all allergies without any hassle and great for vegetarians.

There were plenty of groups in here having a good time but the main factor in that seemed to be lots of white wine rather than great food. The restaurant’s approach seems to be generic Japanese food with average quality ingredients (the hot pot stock...for example was basically water and the vegetable ingredients 90% cabbage, by comparison to others who hand-make something special). I’m sure the restaurant is full all season and is doing well but there are many many better eating options in Niseko. ThanksMore

Incredible tapas style Japanese and range of meals. Great balance of traditional and modern Japanese. Food was delicate and full of flavor. Best sashimi we think we’ve ever had. Amazing Hokkaido Chicken. Excellent service. Looks can be deceiving, you could walk right past it.

One of the uber-quaint little timber house restaurants in the heart of Niseko village. (Gosh I hope they preserve these!) We loved grabbing dinner here. A low-key but bustling, rustic Japanese bar and food cabin with an upstairs and downstairs. Great food, and atmosphere and...locals. So good!More

Staff was incredibly friendly. The service was quick and food was served faster then I thought. We got the Sashimi for 2, Calamari and Pork belly. All were absolutely amazing, but the pork belly was to die for. We were lucky to get a table...as it was quite popular and most parties had made reservations prior which we had not. A must stop spot if your in Niseko!More

We really enjoyed our dinner at Kougetsu - food was delicious, prompt & friendly service, cosy atmosphere & reasonably priced. Highlights were the hot pot, tuna sashimi & fried chicken. Would highly recommend booking & eating at this restaurant when visiting Niseko.
