We had the most amazing and relaxing stay at Gannet St Ives this weekend! From our first enquiry to the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, with special thanks to Charmaine and Jay for their exceptional service. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to beautiful rooms, which were perfectly equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and offered great value for money. Every meal was a treat, adding to the overall wonderful experience. We highly recommend Gannet St Ives and will definitely be returning again. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!

Another family occasion at this lovely restaurant, which we’ve frequented several times. Lovely ambiance, cosy, and a great way to say farewell to visiting family until next time. Service was initially a bit slow, but the food when it arrived was good. Generous portions, hot, and well presented. I’d ordered scampi, one of my favourites. After 3 nights of eating out in great restaurants, I wanted something tasty but light. Disappointed to find that that what was described as scampi on the menu, when it arrived, was actually what I would call “fish bites”. Very tasty, and well cooked, but not scampi. After the bill was settled, I did speak to the restaurant manager about my disappointment, and initially the response was that it was scampi, and after further discussion I was told it was “ monkfish scampi”. Shredded monkfish is not scampi. I suggested that their menu was incorrect and needed to be amended, and was assured that it would be fed back to the chef. I shall wait and see. Overall it was a lovely evening, but I do feel disappointed and misled over the menu.

Nice lunch with friends. Staff were attentive but not pushy. All agreed our food was nice and tasty. Did take quite a while from ordering to receiving our food (nobody had the pie which we were forewarned would be a 20 minute wait) and the restaurant was t very busy. Will return to try the Sunday lunch.

My partner and I had a child free night and had to go to hayle, we decided to head out for dinner. We live reasonably local and ha e some amazing restaurants around us. We had a Google and found that The Gannet had great reviews so decided to give it a try. How disappointed we were. I had the Kiev which was basically chicken wrapped in garlic breadcrumbs, no garlic butter inside. Presentation was lovely but the taste was not there. My partner had the carbonara which looked like pasta and sauce just just dumped on a plate. I hate giving bad reviews but I'm afraid for a £70 bill it was way below the standard of many restaurants in the area. Service was good as a positive

Deeply disappointing. Won't go back. Very hard to believe this is part of the Carbis Bay Hotel stable. I had fish & chips. Only tasted of hot oil and was so greasy I could hardly eat any of it. Sad chips. My husband had chicken Kiev: poor quality chicken with no garlic butter filling. Garlic sauce came in a separate jug. Fine, but then don't call it chicken Kiev! He did not enjoy it.
Incredibly noisy stag party at the bar shouting, couldn't hear ourselves think.
Waitress didn't know how the fish of the day was cooked - a pretty basic requirement for a waitress in a restaurant. Shame, as we live locally and eat out a lot. But not here we won't.

We dined at the Gannet on two occasions and itt is fair to say the staff were superb and both the location and the resturant itself very pleasing all of which creates a lovely setting for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. There will no doubt there will be many people that will disagree with coments and will no doubt have different opinions. My problem with the Gannet is its food and more likely to be the Head Chef. Many will again disagree. Having had 2 starters and two main meals this is how we both feel. The food is overly rich. At both ends of the spectrum a 10oz Steak beaten to within an inch of its life, greasy and over seasoned all way through to a steak and ale pie again so rich and over seasoned I could only eat half. Mushrooms soaked in oil. But possibly the biggest disappointment was the whole plaice served to the table in a sea of melted butter. For a fish with such a beautiful subtle taste to be served in such a way was such a disappointment. I think the likely cause is the head chef whom I hear is attempting build a reputation. My advice such that it is would be to strip your dishes back and compliment them with what is really required to enhance the flavour of the dish. As for the Plaice, I'd start again with a totally new idea where 200ml of melted butter is no where to be seen. We eat out regularly and on holidays (3rd time to Cornwall this year so far) eat out once a day every day. This review is honest and meant to be helpful and is written without malice and is a genuine feeling about the food provided across two days bearing in mind the £180 spent.

Gannett Inn Carbis Bay
A sister hotel to the Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa, we had a lovely meal on a Thursday evening, though there was a mix up on the time booked via both venues.
The cottage pie was finished when we arrived at 8pm so we settled for the fish of the day (plaice) and the chicken Kiev in breadcrumbs with vegetables. For deserts we had three Cornish ice creams in a brandy snap and the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream. The latter was not perfect and the chef cooked a fresh sticky toffee pudding which was delicious (and the restaurant apologised and did not charge us for the pudding). The service was good and with a glass of wind and a lager the bill came to £62.00. Most enjoyable. Regards Gary Saunders

The Gannet Inn is situated in Carbis Bay and is close to the station although it is a steep uphill walk from there.
We took a short taxi ride from our hotel in St Ives and a pleasant mile or so walk back post meal.
I had scallops to start, seafood pasta for main and a trifle for dessert.
To drink, I had a mojito, a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, a glass of Botrytis Semillon and a liquor coffee.
The scallops were particularly good and the cost of these was reasonable compared to other establishments in the vicinity.
Service was pleasant and attentive and the the restaurant exuded a nice ambience.
Cost including service was around £188.

On a trip to St Ives, we found on the web that the Gannet Inn served Sunday roast. We are in our late 60s/early 70's, have travelled and eaten extensively and we were prepared to pay for a decent meal. We both had mushropm soup, roast beef dinner (cooked to order (med well and med rare). The plate was full, the veg varied and perfect, the meat was tender and the gravy was a delicate balancing of flavours. The bread and butter pudding was a melt in your mouth delight and the wine superb.

We had a nice evening at the Gannet restaurant. It was fairly busy yet the restaurant had a nice relaxed atmosphere. We ordered Moules Frites and whole grilled Mackerel with tomato salsa which was really good, fresh, well cooked and presented. Generous portions too. The food was lovely and the service friendly and attentive.

Visit here multiple times a year when we come down to Carbis Bay. We have at least two meals out here simply because we can't miss out on a Sunday Roast here - its just the best roast we've ever had in a restaurant. Then we can't miss out on the pie so we end up here twice per visit which also means two lots of their sticky toffee pudding which is to die for!
They briefly took it off the menu and myself and family were GUTTED! So relieved its back as its AMAZING! Always visit with my in laws but on this occasion brought my aunt and uncle. They had the beef roast dinner and I had chicken. As always the staff make alterations for my children that aren't on the menu such as beans instead of peas. I will be down visiting again soon and I'm already looking forward to my roast!! As always fantastic friendly staff too. Thank you for such an enjoyable meal out!

This restaurant was spot- on from our first interaction with staff as casual diners to our beautiful meals with great service provided throughout. The restaurant is very stylish with great ambiance. I had Chicken Kiev which was beautifully- cooked with an amazing sauce.

A great evening again, with visiting family. Great atmosphere, staff are so friendly, and the food was superb. Chicken Kiev, steak & Stilton pie, gammon, and the vegan mixed grill were all perfectly cooked and if you like healthy sized portions, you won’t be disappointed. We are lucky to have this place just down the road. Thank you.

After having a meal booking on 2 occasions cancelled last minute due to covid and staffing apparently, we thought we would give the place another go. 3rd time lucky.
Service extremely poor apart from the manager at the start of the night who left before close and joe was also a good waiter only minimal dealings with.
Food was good, unfortunately as my husband meal was put on the table, I knocked a glass of Prosecco over which went over his meal, this was due to, too many glasses being on the table and the service being slow to clear, they offered to replace the meal and of course we accepted, what they did not say is it would be chargeable and they saw it was a complete accident and partly their fault.
Moving on from this the meal was replaced.
We went on to have desert but service was horrendous, my friend being tutted at for adding a coffee to the order after we ordered and the wait being 20-25 minute for very small deserts 1035pm desert coming out. Being told it tells you on the menu how long it takes very rudely.
The bill comes out during our dessert, where it was apparent they charged us for the taken away meal, we queried this and was told because it’s made to order you have to pay, none of this being explained prior, we were not happy about this after receiving bad service, then to be told no manager was available and they had to ring Carbis bay hotel for authority they then came back to say we could pay half, no sorry, no I understand your frustration nothing. We refused and she went off and rang them again, to then come back and said ok don’t pay for it, again no sorry nothing, rudely told us.
Just such bad customer service, something a lot of there staff need training on, on such a high ended restaurant.
Food good, service very very poor such a shame.

Everything seemed fine on arrival, at the start we had great service from the waiter. The restaurant then started to fill up and that's when things started to go downhill. After our mains, 3 different staff members walked straight past us around 5 times in 15 minutes without clearing our plates away or offering us further drinks. When we did finally get service, after pulling one of the staff members, we ordered more drinks and asked to sit in the lounge area. We sat there waiting for 20 minutes for the waiter to come over and say he'd forgot to put our drinks through. At this point we just wanted to leave so cancelled the drinks, left our money on the counter and walked out disappointed. The food was nice, it's just a shame about the customer service.
