Took our son here when he visited us for a few days. We only found the restaurant in the summer and it’s a hidden gem. Quirky and Spanish what more could you ask for. Food amazing such good value but possibly the nicest salad we...have ever had as a first course. Next time visiting our house it will be a must visit.More

After reading numerous rave reviews, I was decidedly intrigued to visit this Spanish restaurant which lies off the beaten track in Rojales. As expected, we had our temperatures taken on arrival as a Covid-19 precaution before sitting down in the pleasantly cooled restaurant. As described...by many other guests, the restaurant is impeccably clean and quirkily decorated with recycled objects. The menú del día is perfectly translated from Spanish into English. In addition the owner's son also speaks very good English. The courses are almost exclusively home made and offer a good choice of typical local Spanish cuisine. I noted that the restaurant is open from 12-3pm and from 7pm in the evenings. An indicator that it mainly caters for tourists. In addition the ratio of reviews from foreigners clearly prevails over reviews from Spanish people. Although you will mainly eat in the company of your fellow country people, this is definitely not a restaurant which rips off foreigners. However if you want to go to a truly Spanish restaurant where you will be the only foreigner ("guiri") and no English or other languages are spoken, you will pay €2.- less for the menú del día and you will be presented with a bottle of wine (and not just one glass). For instance the excellent and truly quirky Restaurante Avenida in Los Palacios, Rojales where the drinks and portions are generously abundant and we always walk out with a smile on our faces. Coming back to El Resspiro, it is definitely worth a visit as the plentiful variety is one of the spices of eating out in Spain (even if most restaurants don't serve spicy food here). I digress...More

Had yet another fabulous evening at El Respiro. Took friends from England and friends who live in Spain and they all absolutely loved it too. The hospitality is second to none, the food was exceptional and the little surprise on the way out went down...a treat. Bonus was, it was my birthday and they made it super special.More
