I mean, for a Japanese restaurant, the service was pretty rude. Staff were yelling at me as soon as I entered, asking if I could speak Japanese, then when I said I could, they were very inpatient with me (and everyone around me) about how...fast I was ordering. It was kind of entertaining though since it’s so rare to find rude service in japan! サービスはちゃっと失礼だけど、うなぎはとても美味しい かった!More

We are always scouting for local food experiences in non-michelin star restaurants (my husband wont eat anywhere where they put 'foam' on his plate) and this one was a winner. This restaurant was recommended to us via a friend who was taken there by a...local Japanese colleague. It is located in the non-touristy neighbourhood of Akabane in an area interesting and nice to walk about and watch everyday life go by. The restaurant is 100% traditional and an authentic experience not to be missed. The house speciality is broiled eels. They taste as if they were basted in a sweetened marinade and then grilled over coals and served on rice. You can choose the size of your portion. The small size is more than enough for one person. We insisted on sitting downstairs in the tapas bar counter type area to soak up the atmosphere. Westerners are welcomed. Limited English spoken but you'll get by.More
