This place is a magical spot throughout the different season in the middle of hectic Gotanda. But best timing to have a lunch is throughout Sakura (Cherry blossom) season end of march/begin of April. Please reserve a seat directly in front of the huge windows far upfront and you will have the time of your life !

There are different compartments, depending on the size of the group. However, everyone of them has wonderful view, right overlooking the beautiful Happo-en outside. The dishes are authentically Japanese. However, I suppose some foreigners may not be used to the light seasoning of foods. Every dish looks good, though!

We can enjoy the nice view of Japanese Garden at the restaurant on 1st floor. Pasta lunch is very delicious with ¥1800 and don't miss pretty good dessert at the extra charge of ¥300! You can walk around the pond in Japanese Garden and colorful carps and flowers in season welcome you. I am sure to come back. 緑多い庭を眺めて、野菜が豊富でリーゾナブルなパスタランチが楽しめました。 窓側やテラス席は、予約したほうがいいのでは。

A lovely business dinner in this peaceful and traditional setting. Stunning food served in a traditional setting overlooking beautiful gardens. A very good place for a dinner with clients or business partners.

The setting within the beautiful flowering cherry blossom trees in spring was so magical. The dining area had modern furnishings. Had lunch there after having tea ceremony at the garden. The salad buffet for starters was excellent- had delicious shrimp and lobsters and lots of green vegetable choices. Thought that was the meal itself until I realized, the waitress took... More

Have used for several parties...as it has a beautiful Japanese garden and kind staff - most of them speak English. Just visiting their Japanese restaurant followed by after meal walking gives you a tranquil Japanese time.

I was at Happoen for the gala dinner of a recent conference. The surrounds were absolutely stunning in the night light but i can't comment on what it looks like during the day. The food was lovely but portion sizes were extremely small.

Just visited this wonderful spot for dinner but it was much more than a restaurant. It's a resort of welcoming services, just fantastic from the beautiful gardens to 6 star hotel like interior, and not to mention all the staff must be top trained and they were the most courteous ever. And dinner of course was wonderful, tho it was... More

This is simply a lovely place to have lunch. The major complex is within a Japanese garden and if you are fortunate you can stroll around after lunch and say hello to the koi in the pond as well as to some ancient bonsai. You are seated at the sushi bar with a lovely view of the garden. The menu... More

You should go and see. It is in the city center but not a part of city. 5 minutes walk from Shirokenadai train station.

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
