I spent 20 years regularly visiting Japan (2 or 3 times a year), plus I also lived in Tokyo for a year not far from the Aoyama Maisen restaurant. I probably ate here 50 times or more over the years. Usually at the counter, but sometimes in the large room at the back. Nice people, prompt service, reliably great food.... More

Best Tonkatsu I've ever had. Waited in line for less than ten minutes which was a surprise. The staff were lovely and efficient and the tonkatsu set I ordered was a generous portion. Couldn't fault the place. The tonkatsu was juicy, crispy, hot, delicious and didn't feel oily. The salad was also incredibly fresh and delicious and came with a... More

Recommended by a friend so we give a try. The katsu taste just okay. Nothing special actually. The queu during lunch hour is not so long.

This is tonkatsu the way I like it- crispy on the outside, juicy inside. The usual condiments are on the table. It is served in a bento box with pickles and shredded cabbage on the side. Service was quick. If you are in a hurry and the line outside isn't long, this makes a convenient place for lunch.

Great pork and shrimp katsu that all of the family enjoyed. Went for lunch and it was busy but the wait was only 15-20. Kids had gyoza, dumplings and pork katsu sandwiches. Very friendly even though we didn't speak Japanese. Counter service or tables upstairs.

We popped in here on our recent trip to Tokyo on a very wet and windy Spring day and this place delivered the goods on all fronts - fabulous juicy meat, great curry and plenty of options for us and the kids. Traditional décor inside, but great quick service and a perfect place to escape from the weather!

This is one one place I visit each time I'm in Tokyo. You'll never get pork so juicy and tender anywhere else despite it being deep fried.

Awesome lunch spot. They serve Tonkatsu in different styles. My favorite is the katsu-Don. I love their thick tonkatsu sauce....its dense and full of flavor. Their tonkatsu is nice and thick, with the right amount of crispy/breading. The meat is never chewy or too fat. Its perfect every time. The place is very traditional, with services done old school. Super... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighbourhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
