The food was cooked to perfection, the service was great and the ambience in the restaurant just created the best atmosphere for dinning. Will recommend this place without any reservations.

Went here based on TA reviews, and I wasn't disappointed! Their thing is scallions and I never knew there was so much you could do with them. Has an English menu, but you will be missing out on some specials. We had the tofu, seared scallions, the Sea bream with green tea and the beef. All were excellent. We ordered... More

We discovered this restaurant after we had been turned away from another restaurant, Kai Ryori Hamaguri, which SavorJapan had raved about. They turned us away because we spoke English, no Japanese. For reals. Anyways, back to Onegiya. It had a very cool vibe, Japanese, but modern. The staff was friendly, efficient and professional. There was light jazz playing. We sat... More

My friend and I stumbled across this restaurant while hungrily roaming the streets of Shinjuku. I hadn't really enjoyed the fried nature of much of the food in Japan and when we saw they had some veggies on the menu, we decided to give it a try. Boy were we in luck!! This is probably one of the best meals... More

This restaurant is in an area heavily planted with an array of interesting little eateries. We tried to get in on the first night but totally booked out and because it looked so original and interesting we persevered and got in late the following night. Our bench seating was right on the kitchen where we could watch the meals being... More

We wandered around this cute little precinct & stumbled on Onegiya . We were attracted by the display of fresh spring onions outside & cute building & the fact it was packed! Discovered that spring onions in every way possible were their speciality- yummy as long as you like spring onions! We loved it - veggies are a rare treat... More

We were wandering around Shinjuku on our first night in Tokyo with no particular restaurant in mind, and what luck we had! The food was incredible and the restaurant had an authentic and cosy feel to it. It really was one of the best meals we had in our 2 weeks in Japan, and we travelled all over the country... More

We stumbled across this small hole in the wall restaurant after a whole day of sight-seeing and a last minute dash to check out the reputable food hall at Isetan. We had no idea what it had to offer. We didn't have the benefit of a food guide or access to our iPhones. But it was a gem in every... More

Strolling through the streets of Shinjuku my son and I were pointed to this restaurant by my Tripadviser app. Service was excellent and food was fabulous. Started with the sashimi which was divine. Had 4 other really tasty dishes (2 chicken dishes, a beef dish and the pork parcels), 4 orders of rice and 4 beers. At 8000 Yen, it... More

It was one of the best Japanese meals I´ve had. Just comparable to one in a nice Ryokan and one in a top Japanese restaurant in NYC (to avoid saying names of others in this review). I enjoyed very much the broiled clams, and simple dishes like a broiled onion that was accompanied with a sauce that made its flavor... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
