Located in the middle of Shinjuku main street. Easy and convenient to find and eat. Staff speak some English, but easiest to order by menu and pictures on the menu. Great value for money. Big portions and good prices. Shabu shabu is priced from Y580-880. However the best value and taste meal was the fried noodles. Only Y480 and enough... More

Great local Izakaya with lots of choices of different types of food. The menu has pictures which makes ordering easy for westerners. Their nabe makes winter worthwhile! They have a good selection for vegetarians too and are very close to Golden Gai for more drinking after.

This restaurant is a fantastic place to eat. Although it is situated in a high tourist area, the restaurant is not targeted at the tourist trade. The majority of the diners at the restaurant are locals, in fact on the three nights we were there we were the only westerners/tourists there. We thought that if the locals eat there it... More

I really enjoyed this place. We came across it just down from our hotel. We hadn't booked and sat down the back on the tables where you sir in the floor. I loved the food here. Nothing was in English but the pictures were really helpful. We just pointed on all the things that we wanted to eat and they... More

Right in the heart of Shinjuku we found this local gem. Being the only westerners in the restaurant gave us a good hint that it was a good find. We had a variety of small dishes, our favourite being the BBQ beef and chicken. Service was brisk and friendly, with enough English spoken to get by with lots of pointing... More

Absolutely fantastic place to meet locals, eat cheap and probably get pretty drunk. Went there 2 times within a week, food taste great and atmosphere is very relaxed. Not for kids, though.

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
