We loved it - an old style (the restaurant is over 100-years old) tofu restaurant. They prepared tofu in ways that I never imagined, and each course was different and delicious. We had lunch here, and that worked out really well - it was kind of on the way from Ueno Park to Sensoji in Asakusa.
The tofu here is so fresh and varied, it has nothing in common with the tofu we buy in Canada. It opens up a whole new world of tofu-based meals and tofu variations. My girlfriend who wants to learn to cook better tofu was very pleased. Warm service as well, traditional setting. Highly recommended.
This would appear to be the world's premier tofu restaurant and the food was certainly both interesting and different. It was also plentiful, the larger tasting menu was rather more tofu than most would comfortably manage I suspect. I was new to tofu haute cuisine but came away impressed by what was possible using what is not perhaps the most... More
A quiet, charming restaurant with set menus featuring tofu in ways you never imagined, from appetizers, to soup, to entrée and even ice cream! Each dish is thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented and delicious. You'll never see tofu the same again. You have a choice of several different sizes of set menus - we choose the next to smallest and... More
For starters, I'm not a vegetarian. I've had tofu dishes that I've enjoyed, but generally find tofu to be food that adds little to a meal. So it was eye-opening to see what tofu can do in the right hands. My wife and I got the set lunch menus, which included multiple courses of tofu prepared in about a dozen... More
This restaurant specialises in tofu - there was tofu in every dish including the ice cream. Some of it was delicious - some of it took some getting used to (especially for this western palette). The restaurant is very historic and the setting (private room) was very delightful. Also loved the sparkling sake.
It's been a great fun for me to take my overseas friends to this 320-year old Japanese restaurant, and share the joy with them. Their unique experience starts at the entrance hall as soon as they step in. "Gesoku-ban" a dedicated shoe manager normally seen at an expensive Japanese dinning house, kindly asks them to take off their shoes, and... More
The basic three-course set menu includes tofu. For bigger appetites, there's also an eight-course banquet. Good service. Starting from around Y4200 for dinner.
