Their menu selections were "poli nostimo" (very delicious) and their service was prompt and friendly without being intrusive. Their retsina (Greek white wine) and home-style mousaka were best-in-class. Very enjoyable and relatively quiet atmosphere.

Firstly, it's definitely worth your while to get to Meteora, at least once. It's magical.
Secondly: dining in Greece was great: we typically had a glass of wine, appetizer and two entrees and it was almost always 40 euros or so--plus they almost always provided a small complimentary dessert.
We had a fabulous such meal here and it was 37.70 euros: wine, special local cheese, courgettes, stuffed tomatoes and moussaka. It's a winner!

Most Tavernas here have similar food with generous quantities but what we liked about this place were the very friendly waiters and the warm real fire in October. It's been owned by the same family for several generations and although the waiters we spoke spoke to say they are not blood family they feel it in every other respect. Very welcoming, good English spoken, prompt service and complimentary fruit and liqueur to finish. And the steak was cooked to perfection!

Nice and small taverna, very clean. The personell was helpfull and prompt. We ordered beef cheese meatballs - flavored with basil and oregano, 10 of 10 points. The vegetable soup was tasty, little bit saour and salty but in a good way. Also I recommend chicken souvlaki ( also with a pinch of oregano) very tender.

Where do I begin! GREAT food! AMAZING service! A view like no other! About a 10min drive from Kalabaka, but worth the drive.
Chicken and pork souvlaki were tender huge portions, Greek salad delicious, baked feta is a must, they also serve great bread.
The staff were genuine, friendly, helped my friend with the broken arm (took her meat off the skewer and cut it up!),
Although the restaurant is rated $$-$$$, we found it very affordable for the portion sizes.
I found this restaurant on a google search and it did not disappoint! ❤️

Avoid this restaurant by all means. I just had one of the worst experiences in my life. It happened to see the person responsible for the grill to go to the bathroom and leaving without washing his hands and minutes later it happened to observe him to accidentally throw a burger on the floor (on a dirty carpet) and without hesitation he put it back to the grill.
When we complained to him and to the manager of the place, they admitted that they don’t have to wash hands after toilet and they said that other restaurants do exactly the same when they drop some food on the floor (!). Ridiculous guys and situation. Just avoid this place!!!

Excellent service and terrific Greek fare in the hear of Kastrika. We enjoyed the Greek Salad, White Bean Casserole, and souvlaki with chicken. We are returning tonight for as second meal. Total bill with a liter of local wine was 37 euros.

My wife and I travelled from Canada and upon arrival in Meteora we asked our local accommodation host..."where's the best authentic Greek restaurant in Kastraki?" They said Gardenia and we can't seem to eat anywhere else. The Owner and staff are so friendly that we really felt like we were home in Kelowna with our family eating a Sunday dinner together. The food was homemade, authentic, fresh, and very tasty every night. It fills up fast and rightfully so...so arrive early so you are not disappointed. It's rare to find a place where everyone who arrives is welcomed like family and treated with top notch service. Gardenia is that place and I only wish we could stay longer:))

While in Meteora, we had a great meal of authentic Greek food at Taverna Gardenia. We sampled fried cheese, eggplant salad, fried zucchini with garlic sauce, grilled pork, and grilled country sausage. All these were delicious and the meats were especially good. We also enjoyed a liter of local red wine. In true taverna tradition, we were gifted a piece of cake and a shot of ouzo at the end of our meal!

This is the ultimate family taverna (third generation), warm, friendly, welcoming. We ate there on three consecutive nights and by the end felt like part of the family, treated with free puddings, grandma’s stewed quinces and a shot of ouzo. The food is standard taverna fare but none the worse for that.

We followed Lonely Planet’s recommendation and were not disappointed. The staff are welcoming and speak excellent English and French. Service is efficient but not hurried: we ended up having a long chat with our waiter, Apostolis, who was delightful.
The menu is typical taverna fare, but executed very well; I enjoyed the local wine, too. Prices were very reasonable.
A great choice for dinner in Kastraki.

The restaurant offers typical Greek food of good quality. We had the Moussaka and stuffed tomato and pepper, and for meat we had pork chops and port souvlaki. All dishes were good, and the moussaka absolutely excellent. We ended with some typical deserts, many of them offered free by the owner. With two beers and a large bottle of water and tip we payed 70 euro.

We arrived at approximately 9pm and the place was quite busy. Regardless, the wait staff were very friendly and attentive, happy to answer questions or make suggestions. We had the Greek salad, grilled peppers, and sausage - it was all wonderful!

For a stunningly cheap price, the quality of the food is excellent.
Really friendly and family orientated service, always with a genuine smile and super clean (guy even disinfected our hands for us after shaking them to say good bye).
The food is quality local and cheap, and clearly not gastronomy, so if reviewers look for that, go to Athens and pay 10x price...
Conclusion: definitely good value and food, one of the best in the area.

the restaurant was recommended to us by locals. Traditional food, very very delicious, Manos gave us excellent service, the Musaca and fried Zucchini were exceptional. it sets to the basis of the Meteora monasteries. The price is fair.
