I have recently been on my first visit to the Black Horse for a Sunday Lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff and asked if we would like to wait in the seating area for the rest of our party, with we did. After being seated by the polite staff, a well mannered waiter took our order and made some... More

After spending the day at Champneys in Henlow, we decided to book here for dinner as I visited a while ago and remembered it was very good. On a cold evening, we received a very warm welcome. I am pregnant so really appreciated the extensive choice of soft drinks! When we were taken to our table, there was a birthday... More

Super venue for special occasion dining. Always busy, can be a bit noisy. Great menu and friendly staff. Parking is somewhat limited.

My wife and visited the Black Horse on a very cold Saturday night to celebrate a 60th birthday. We received a very warm welcome - including from the helpful car park attendant - and were quickly seated despite the restaurant being incredibly busy. The staff were charming and attentive throughout. The food was beautifully presented and tasted great. We also... More

Having had friends visit The Black Horse and speak very highly of the food and service we were disappointed with the service we received when we visited lunchtime on 12th January 2017. We waited a long time for food - the winter salad was disappointing. We sat with dirty plates on the table for a long time. When the table... More

My wife's birthday was made really special by not only the excellent meal but also the service and attention to detail which is part of the "package" at this wonderful restaurant. She had a customised birthday card waiting for her at the table, best wishes from several of the staff and a piped chocolate "happy birthday" on her chosen dessert... More

Went for my daughter's birthday lunch. We were a large group and the food and service were excellent. My granddaughter is severely allergic to dairy and they ensured that everything was cooked accordingly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone both for ambiance and quality of fodd. Staff are well trained and always welcoming. Also it's nice to be... More

I looked forward to my second visit the the Black Horse after an interval of several years and was not disappointed. The welcome, the service, the menu and the food were all that one could wish for - apart from the vegetables which were on the undercooked side of al dente. However, that small detail did not spoil a thoroughly... More

If you have read my reviews before you will know I am not the easiest customer to please but on this occasion this establishment was almost faultless. From the moment we walked in it was apparent that this was a very slick operation. We were greeted, served a drink at the bar, and shown to our table by three different... More

Description
The Black Horse is a family owned Inn with character and style set in a small hamlet in Bedfordshire. The Black Horse was built in the 17th Century, and although it has been updated and given a contempory style, it still holds its charm and character. With it's exposed original beams, inglenook fireplace and low ceilings, the bar is warm and welcoming - perfect for relaxing with a drink or a glass of wine. The restaurant consists of two distinct dining areas each offering their own unique style and atmosphere with either garden or courtyard outlooks. Our seasonally changed menu's use only the freshest ingredients sourced locally (where possible). The dishes are expertly prepared and presented by a team of highly qualified chef's.
