Visited as a group for Sunday lunch....we are all locals so we were all familiar with the pub. Shown quickly to our table - and had our drinks served promptly . The speciality gin choice was explained very well - and the advice was great . Fantastic drinks - at ok prices . We all chose a roast . The... More

The Hermit is a lovely pub on a windy country road near Stevenage. The welcome is warming, and it has a friendly atmosphere. The staff were very attentive through the evening. The food is hit and miss - a hit in terms of the flavours and the presentation, a miss in terms of there not being enough of it. As... More

Great choice on the menu and the presentation of the food is excellent. (Think masterchef) staff are friendly and give the impression that they care about standards and service. Flavours amazing. One stand out was the brandy snap shards on the lemon tart- these had a real kick. Not given 5 stars as portion sizes are quite small on some... More

Booked for dinner having read some reviews, arrived and was warmly greeted and given a choice of tables and we chose next to the open fire which was cosy and inviting. The candle on our table was replaced for a new one, the service from our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. Drinks were served quickly and we were given... More

Country pub that now does modern quality food at reasonable prices. A selection of staples form the base of the menu, with other more elaborate dishes to complement. Bar service is good. The whole place has a 'touch of class' to its offering.

We have visited here twice this month. On our first visit we were warmly greeted and shown immediately to our table. This was by a roaring log fire and on a cold evening was greatly appreciated ! Our order was taken quickly and our wine appeared promptly . I chose mackerel starter and my husband the crab one. Both were... More

Came here with 5 colleagues on 9th November for the first time. A little difficult to find without SatNav but well worth the "hunt". It is such a pleasant surprise to see a bespoke menu with seasonal food. I went full out and had starter, main course and dessert, all of which were delicious. As I was driving I was... More

I will do my best to be as ' conservative ' as possible. This was a family birthday dinner for my daughter. The restaurant/pub is very hidden away in a secluded area of Hertfordshire. Parking is poor. We arrived in the evening and parked in the overspill car park which was in complete darkness, we had to use our phones... More

Visited this restaurant with work colleagues at short notice. The choice of beers was very good, so I was told, but the food was outstandingly good. The pork main has to be one of the finest dishes I've ever eaten. Both the presentation and taste were as good as you are likely to get anywhere. The staff were professional, knowledgeable... More

This place is wonderful, the food, the staff, the log fire, I love it all! Each time we go we are more impressed. The taste of game on the mains is the best thing I've eaten in years. The menu is always changing as they usual seasonal produce, currently they have pumpkin, blackberries and lots of game! The guy tending... More
